The NFL network dude was on Ryan Reisllos podcast talking about the Texans and Watson and he thinks they smooth things out or they will go scorched earth with him and not trade him and make him sit and fine him.  FYI

I suspect this is how it plays out.

We're not competing this year with a rookie QB.

We should trade back a couple of times and pick up some 2022 draft capital as well as some extra thirds.  Get a T, C/G, TE, and CB.  Coach them up.

Then go all in for Watson next year when we have a decent team to support him.

I don't know. I know if I go down the schedule, where games that ended up within one possession scoring-wise of a tie or win, there were 11 of them. We won three and lost eight, so 3-8. If you look at what is considered possible  game-winning (or tying) drives, then it's reported that Bridgewater went  0-8. Are you suggesting that media is wrong? I mean, it was reported on the Web and on TV (and I faintly remember someone mentioning that he wanted to win one--probably the second Saints game--during a broadcast).

yep - there were a number of failed last-minute drives for the win (or tie).  What I was responding to was "1-score games".  In those, he was 3-8.

An optimist (me) might say 'we were still in the game despite the sub-optimal talent.  Good for Teddy'.

A pessimist would say 'we should have won those games - its all Teddy's fault', not considering there are 53 other players plus coaches on the field that can affect the outcome,

I usually come down somewhat in the middle.

Not sure what everyone was expecting.  Not counting QBs still on their rookie contracts, I believe Teddy was the lowest paid starting QB in the league last year other than Cam.

Yeah he is. Minnesota game we was winning and to kick fg because he missed wide open Moore for td that’s all on him that game shouldn’t have came down to a Slye fg. Then another game on the line 4th and 9 throws ball 2yds and he is not to blame. Yeah he was 0-8 I’m sorry I’m giving him all those losses

He absolutely deserves some blame in a number of those games.  But the 0-8 in 1-score games is simply not true.  I'm sure you are capable of googling the results of our schedule and performing this simple analysis.  He definitely won 3 games where the final score was a difference of 7 points or less.  He was 3-8 in 1-score games - no getting around that.

I'm an advocate for getting a better QB.  But we should be historically honest with the facts.

It’s all over the huddle as being 0-8?

    beat chargers 21-16

    beat atl 23-16

    beat WFT 20-13.

Vegas: we gave it to Armah on 4th and 1 at the 46 with about a minute and a half left.  game over.

GB: Got the ball on the carolina 20 down 8 with 55 seconds and no TOs.

KC: Got the ball on the carolina 9 with 1:26 and no TOs.  Miss a long fg for win.

Minn: Got the ball on carolina 13 with 0:43 and no TOs.  Miss a 54 yarder for win.

He definitely had some fails, yet we were in almost every game.  Not bad for a team many thought would probably be the worst in the NFL.  I want to be more than competitive like everyone else, but our defense was basically starting from scratch, CMC missed most of the year, and our offensive line was mediocre at best.  Teddy is not the long-term answer - but he's not horrible.

Teddy definitely deserves a lot of blame sorry to hurt ur poor feelings. U go 0-8 in one score games, yes u deserve a lot of criticism.

He actually went 3-8 in one score games.  And 2 of the 8 losses would have required 2-pt conversions just to get to OT.  Also, Slye shanked a 54-yarder in 1 of the 8 losses.

Teddy wasn't great - but no need to lie about stuff.

  6. Let's show some patience.  Whether Watson plays for us this year or not will not matter at all in the long run.  Trade a 4th for stache.  Let Minshew and Teddy battle it out.  It will be a year-long drama for the whiny crowd.

Then we trade back and accumulate picks.  A future first and an extra 3rd.  We grab at T, G/C, CB, and TE in rounds 1-3.  WR and LB in the 5th.

All of the sudden we look ok.  Meanwhile Houston is exactly where they are today.  With or without Watson playing, they will probably go 4-12 again.  If Houston goes 4-12 again, they will have a nice pick for drafting a new QB.  They will be ready to move on from the disgruntled Watson who is still demanding a trade.  Teddy will be off the books and we'll be right there waiting for them with our 2 2022 firsts and whatever else they may need.

  7. Kind of jazzed about this one...

    19. Alijah Vera-Tucker OT USC
    51. Creed Humphrey OC Oklahoma
    81. Chazz Surratt LB North Carolina
    90. Amari Rodgers WR Clemson
    135Robert Rochell CB Central Arkansas
    142. Chuba Hubbard RB Oklahoma State
    185. Robert Hainsey OG Notre Dame

    2022 Washington 1st
    2022 Minnesota 2nd
    2022 Miami 5th

Like I said, I'd prefer for us to keep #8 and run with it.

I agree.  Wait for Fields or Lance to fall.  Both are too raw for some win-now team to move up for them.  Hell, Lance probably won't even play next year.  If they are both gone, take one of the LTs.  If both gone, that means we either get a difference maker TE, WR, or trade back for an extra second.

Don't get in such a hurry.  Continue to build.  We'll be back in the top 10 next year and will be in better shape to move for our guy.

Meanwhile explore Darnold, Trubisky, Minshew, etc.  They are all young and could develop into something good.  Offer a 2-year contract with an out after 1 year to see what happens.  Meanwhile try to trade Teddy for a 3rd or 4th.  Colts, WFT, NE all have tons of cap and may see Teddy as just what they need.  He had his moments.

Inactive for an entire season due to Covid...

I'll be back later. I'm gonna be laughing for a while 😆

Well if you are right and he sucks, maybe we can kick the tires when he gets cut.  No way GB keeps him around for his potential right?

  10. This could be a win for both teams.

SF is in a win now mode - they just need a guy that is steady, doesn't make a lot of mistakes, and can stay healthy.  Teddy can be a decent game manager.  With the defense and Kittle, he might have some success.  He wouldn't need to put up 30 every week to have a shot at winning.

Jimmy is much better (if healthy).  If we get an extra 2nd, this will allow us to move up a bit and grab our developmental QB to sit for a year.

I think the panthers will get one of the big 4, but will want to sit him a while to learn the ropes.

It actually does make some sense but you have to think beyond the scope of just Matt Ryan. How long do GMs and coaches have to turn around their team? 3 maybe 4 years. That could realistically leave the Falcons starting year 3 needing to draft a QB to start because they has to dump Ryan's contract. And next year's class is not looking particularly strong.

No other position is as important as QB and having a top 4 pick is an opportunity you dont have often. So if you think your future QB is there you take him, sit him for 2 years, dump Ryan and his contract and have a guy with 2 years of NFL camp and experience ready to go year 3 with 3 years of rookie contract remaining.

If you're thinking about your future as a coach or GM, you better be considering Ryan is 36 and you may have to start over 3 years into your stint. Question is will you make it to year 4?

I understand your point but respectively disagree.

I do not like Matt Ryan at all.  But the guy plays 16 games every year and puts up sick numbers.  I believe he's missed 1 game in the last 10 years.  Barring a serious injury, he could easily play into his 40s.

To expend that much draft capital (not to mention salary of 8 mil per year) on a Fields or Wilson that will likely rot for 3+ years and still potentially bust instead of a true difference-maker that could help your team win now makes no sense.

    Jordan Love.

(He may be good value too, they might let him go for a 3rd or a 4th to appease Rodgers).

I've been wanting to target him as well.  Maybe we can switch 1sts with the packers and they can throw in their 3rd as well.  Love and 4 picks in the first 3 rounds sounds good to me.

Jimmy Garoppolo.  We swap first rounders with the 49ers, so we get a starting caliber QB AND the #12 pick to use on a weapon. Oh, they can have TB if they want him, but doubtful.

Interesting...but out of the box thinking is frowned upon in these parts.

  14. Good lord guys, Atlanta is not picking a QB at 4.  Ryan completed 65% of his passes for over 4500 yards with 26 TDs and 11 Ints.  He played all 16 games.  They have many needs and have a chance to get a stud, why pick a QB to sit on the bench and potentially be a bust?  Makes no sense.

Further, all these rising teams looking for a QB to make a run such as SF, Indy, Washington, will not move up to 3 or 4 because it would be extremely expensive and what they really need is a vet, not some kid QB that has to learn the ropes.

I think Denver will jump us to go get Wilson and Detroit may have interest in Lance, but I suspect Fields will be sitting there at 8.

...Later we're granted the good fortune of having a top 3 pick despite our foolish move of bringing in Teddy. What does Rhule do? Everything he can to beat the WFT and ensure we lose our chances of taking a top 2 or 3 QB. That win makes me question Rhule's overall intelligence and leadership ability.

    ...

I would question Rhule's overall intelligence and leadership ability if we had lost the Washington game.  We were gifted 4 turnovers and a special teams TD.  Washington was abysmal out there.  we were already playing without CMC and if Bridgewater is as bad as everyone says, he should be the perfect guy to go out and suck.

And make no mistake, TB did suck that day.  Less than 200 yds passing, 1 TD, i Int, and sacked 4 times.  He did his part to lose that game.

I realize people want a high draft choice and I was hoping for a 4-12 mark as well going into that game.  But you can't throw away your integrity like that.  We're not the Jags or Eagles.

  16. This is out of the box, but what if we swapped #8 with Green Bay for Jordan Love, a first and a second.  We get our promising young quarterback with a season of watching Rogers for a year, plus a couple picks in the prime offensive line / LB / CB spots.  Teddy and Love can compete for QB duties before handing over the reins in 2022.  GB can get one of the stud WRs for Rogers to play with for 2-3 years until he retires.
