  1. Everyone always looks for the magic bullet with defense. It’s really just adjusting to the players you have and putting them in the best spots to win. The best coaches always do that. Belicheck has run many different kinds of base schemes and it was always to adjust to his players. Wade Phillips and others too.

when coaches pick a rigid scheme like square minded fans think and try to find players that only fit that scheme it’s when it goes bad.

Agreed. No question that Brees has been one of the best and racked up crazy stats but he's been the ultimate game manager, distributing the ball with high completion percentages, for almost a decade now and the Saints have continually failed against the most elite competition. Hell, they've only scored more 24 or more points 3/9 games in the playoffs since 2013, with the last time being against the Panthers in 2017, That 'high-powered offense' scored 23 once, 21, once, and 20 3 times in their last 5 playoff games. They win a lot of regular season games but that style can't be counted on to get it done against the elite in today's NFL.

24 points should typically be enough to win an NFL game but the postseasons is its own beast. It's a big reason why I'm personally so against the game manager style and advocate for dynamics.

20 years. One ring. And that's b/c Brett Favre choked. I'm still 100% convinced come July, he will come out of retirement. this piece of poo loves the spotlight.

You do mean he choked after bounty gate, Adrian Peterson having multiple fumbles and that last high low tackle where he should have been in a wheel chair as Sean Payton said?🙄

  4. It really depends on the coaching staff and of course the right scouting. Trading up for Mahomes was a home run. Trading up for some others was a disaster.

Im sure some of the same teams that traded up for disasters would have turned Mahomes into a disaster also.

Atlanta drafting Brett Favre was a disaster. Mike Holmgren understood him and was able to adjust his WCO schemes to Favres strengths and the rest is a Golden history.

it’s the talent for sure, but I put it much more on the talent of the coaching staff.

  5. So I guess people have no concept of telling a football team where players spend entire offseasons preparing to win and guys fighting for roster spots and reps and stats only to be told they need to lose.

tell a guy that he’s guaranteed not to be cut or traded in a contract if a coach tells him to drop a pass, miss a block or just fall down?

    right.

people think that’s real? It’s not wooden chess pieces you know
