No idea how this is all gonna end up. Although the “Saints could never make this work cap wise” and “idk why he’d choose the Saints over us” comments are fantastic lol. Panthers have won 15 games in the last 49. Saints won 9 games last year with 4 different starting QBs.

How I think this all will work, and this is just my guess because I’m not going to pretend like I have any idea what goes on in those buildings. I think the Texans have fielded offers. I’m sure they have a list of offers they would accept/begin negotiations from. I think Watson and his team were probably notified of said offers, and he’s able to get together the list of teams he’d be willing to meet with out of that group.

I don’t see Watson meeting with teams who have offers on the table the Texans wouldn’t accept and I also don’t see him wasting time if it’s not a destination he’d want to end up in. I think it will all come down to who sells him the best. Where he feels like he has the best chance to win/make money. I think he makes the decision and says I’ll waive my NTC for “team x” because him telling the Texans he’ll waive it for a group of teams only starts a bidding war that depletes his next team. That doesn’t help him.

    Pretty much what I figured.

McClain, @Verge, plenty in Panthers media and others have all said Watson waiving for the Panthers is no issue. It'll all come down to compensation for the Texans, which we seem to be leading in at this point...

I don’t believe that’s what’s going on. Obviously, if he’s meeting with them he’s open to waiving the NTC, depending on the meeting. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be meeting with them. These meetings, imo, are for him to figure out who he wants to waive the clause for.

Saints just dont have the cap or picks. They do have the players.

Still Im not happy or sad, cause before the tiny towel stuff I did NOT want to trade mars for him given his two ACLs annd doinng "meh" with Texans in his career.

saints stuff is pure BS. They would have to cut 4 players and trade young talent- Davenport, Ruiz, Mccoy, etc. And give all future draft picks 1sts, 2nds, and even mids. Plus Payton the QB-guru/elite play caller is at home and wants to have a dallas zip code.

They are just wasting time with fake ideas and theories. Neither carolina or NO makes sense, but carolina is much much much closer to making check marks on the list than NO.

I didn’t realize there were still folks that just thought the Saints stuff was smoke and mirrors lol. Just because you choose to be willfully ignorant about HOW they can make it work doesn’t mean that they can’t. Youve been pointed in the direction of articles that can help you understand how, in this very thread. You choose not to look.

The saints can get to around $20 mil in cap space without cutting a single player. They can get to over $30 mil by extending Armstead, but I’m not sure they want to do that because of the constant injuries. They can very easily work out an extension with Watson, that lowers that $35 million cap hit this year, to something more manageable.

It’s real simple poo man. They’ve created $70 mil the last few days and haven’t cut anyone. Saints do what they want to get who they want time and time again.

Yeah because the Saints Report message board is full of content and discourse based on 100% rational and critical thinking. fug out of here with that lol.

My guy, I couldn’t tell you the last time I visited that address.

What do you have to offer except old players from with a roster built to win 4 seasons ago.

You mean like Onyematta? Davenport? Payton Turner? CGJ? Eric McCoy? Caesar Ruiz?

Listen, I get keeping up with more than just one NFL team is tough, but the Saints roster is one of the best in football. I will 100% say I think the Panthers have the ability to put together a better deal for the Texans. The ability to include the #6 pick as well as Burns and Chinn can beat most packages the Saints would be comfortable putting together imo. I get that. Problem is, this isn’t a bidding war. As I said, I don’t think he’s meeting with teams who the Texans wouldn’t take an offer from. He’s gonna meet with the Panthers and with the Saints possibly others because the trade offer is to their liking, imo.

  5. To be fair, Mr. Igo, Drew was injured for the better part of the game against the Bucs. Couldn't get the ball further than about 15 yards downfield, even that was a struggle. Luke Mccown last week was much better than the injured Drew the week before.

  6. Very helpful Jeremy, thanks.

    Question:

Can one use pre-season games to draw conclusions re: units?

I watched the Saints game last night.  There were definitely individual players I could cite who made plays, or who didn't.  But it also looked like the whole 1st team D was weak.  The Saints defense was truly porous the 1st quarter.  Baltimore moved the ball at will, both passing and running and controlled the ball for 12 of the 15 minutes, scoring TDs on both of their first drives.

You can see the play by play here.

    http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/playbyplay?gameId=400790313

Certainly I came away with the impression that the Saints 1st team defense was really struggling on multiple levels.  Is that too broad a conclusion from a pre-season game?

Preseason is tough for units. I think the only game they actually game plan a little for is the third game. I know they didn't come out of base 43 the first drive with the starters. I try to watch individuals for that reason. Who's winning their line up and beat your man matchup, because that's all a preseason game is.

It is troubling though, that they looked so bad just trying to line up and beat the guy across. I though there were some positives, but some of the concerns I've had were reaffirmed.

  7. He does look a bit smaller but the team site has him listed at 315. To put it in perspective, the Saints website has Armstead at 304.

Gotcha. I went and looked at some pics after I asked. Doesnt look like he's ever had a belly. Nothing wrong with that. Just never noticed before this video.

  8. Odds are Seattle will pay Wagner now that the Wilson negotiations have fallen through.

Man, I'd hate to be a Seahawk fan right now. They're screwed either way. If they sign Russell to a big contract, it's likely they'll lose some crucial pieces on defense. If they don't, then Wilson walks and Seattle will be left without a QB.

Them taking a PR hit with the selection of Frank Clark indicates to me that they're ready to let go of Avil, Irving, and/or Bennett.

I think Irvin is definitely gone. Never thought much of him anyway.

Not sure about them being screwed either way though. If Russel Wilson is as average as most people feel, he shouldnt be too hard to replace. Even if you like Wilson, I'm sure you'd be ready to admit the teams success is on the back of the defense.

I think they'd be foolish to pay him like a top QB. I think if he wants to be paid like that, you let him walk and stack your chips on your defense.
