Who ever they bring in better be a fast learner or know the system in some way.

    Same story every year...

New guys will learn the next few weeks as backups and special teamers. All Smith-Marsette needs to know right away is 1. run fast.  2. run straight.  3. don't drop the frikkin ball.

That's the sucky thing. There's a lot of guys on all 32 rosters who bust there asses and are loved by the coaches who just simply don't have the prerequisite talent to hack it in the NFL. Every coach at every level has guys they wish they could take the talent from this slacker and give it to this guy who busts his ass and just isn't nearly as naturally talented.

The headcoach is supposed to know which qb is the best to lead his team. Typical Ron is only concerned with his defense.

At least he Finally knows! Now he can run Howell into the ground for 5-6 seasons and maybe squeak out a playoff appearance or 2 in the process.

  4. Good stuff! I know that there's a lot going on today with it being cut day, but I'm genuinely surprised that no one has commented on this. I bet if it was another "our o-line sucks" overreaction piece, we'd be 5-6 pages deep by now!

Another take away from this that seems to be unpopular...Christensen is good. I've felt that all along. He's no Mauler, but he continues to play clean, smart football for the most part.

    Well...I feel better about Young.

Downside is that the OL and the WR's look underwhelming.

I think that in regular season we start doing exactly what O'Sullivan talks about, getting creative to force separation. Don't want to show too much in preseason and give ATL any extra film to study.

The Oline worries me too. They looked really good last year in a primarily run-blocking scheme, but transitioning to a primarily pass-blocking scheme is a whole different ballgame.

He's a really athletic FB. Unfortunately for him the FB position has largely gone the way of the dodo. Very few teams carry a dedicated FB. Most just have a TE on the roster who can fill in at FB in the few formations they have in the playbook that calls for a FB.

It looks like we may need him or Thomas helping out Ekwonu on passing situations, at least for now. I don't care if we call them a TE, FB, or H-back, we know that these 2 guys can block.

There are no draft picks from either of Rhule schools on the roster.

    Sam Franklin - Temple

    Sam Tecklenburg - Baylor

Mark Milton - Baylor (Rhule was already gone before we signed him)

I doubt that the last 2 make the team. I just realized that you are correct that these were NOT drafted players, all were UDFA. i should have read your statement closer before starting my reply.

A Steve Wilks, AR, Foreman combo sounds so much better then a Reich, Young, Sanders combo

We very likely still have DJ Moore in that scenario as well.

That being said, I still think that we made the right decision by stirring everything up, even if it means we take a step back immediately. Wilkes, AR, Foreman seemed like a safer, same old same old, train of thought to me.

I refuse to click the link but seeing as how most of the starting OL has looked poor I don't know why Ickey was signaled out.  Bozeman got absolutely abused in the last game and I've heard no mention of it.

I think its a fair question to wonder if an offense built on a heavy dose of the power run game last year insulated this offensive line and maybe the pass protection is lacking a little but a couple dozen preseason snaps isn't a reason to panic.

I don't think the article was that far off base, other than a mysterious "source" that he quotes. Bottom line is that his pass blocking (when left on an island) was questionable going back to his State days. We gave him a lot of help last year on passing plays. As long as he improves, I'm good with him at LT.

"The Panthers got him help with a tight end or extra lineman on 35% of his pass blocks with three or more wide receivers on the field in Weeks 1-9, according to ESPN Analytics/NFL Next Gen Stats. That dropped to 27% the second half of the season when Carolina went to more jumbo sets featuring an extra lineman."

I agree we should try and stash him but I honestly believe he would get scooped up rather quickly

Yeah, I think I misunderstood the "protected player" caveat for PS. He could still technically get poached, it just makes it harder to do so.

" Teams can designate four players every week that are protected from being signed by other teams. This protection starts on Tuesday each week, so every practice squad player is still available to be signed to the regular roster of another team after their team’s game that week until the deadline on Tuesday."
