    IMO.

Fair enough. DeAngelo could honestly slide in at any of the 3 RHD spots. I'm just not sold on him defensively to be a top pair guy. But I guess that's what Slavin is for. He definitely hid Hamilton's deficiencies.

Well you gotta factor in Svech but ya there’s still gonna be a decent chunk of change left over. We have 3 forward spots wide open after Svech.

I expect Svech to come in around 6.5 for 3 years if they go the bridge route. And I fully anticipate Skjei, Nino, or Gardiner (+ prospect(s)) to go in any trade. If it's one of the defensemen, all spots are filled. If it's Nino, that just opens another forward spot to fill, preferably on the cheapish end.

As it stands right now I think the roster looks something like:

    Svech - Aho - Turbo

    Nino - Trocheck - Necas

    Martinook - Staal - Fast

    Lorentz - Stepan/Drury - Leivo

    Slavin - Pesce

    Skjei - Bear

    Cole - DeAngelo

    Gardiner

The LHD is stacked and very expensive, especially for Gardiner to be an extra. That's why I really think we use Gardiner or Skjei in a trade for a LW (ie Tarasenko). That would also offset 4 (Gardiner) or 5.25 million (Skjei) of the large contract we take on.

In all honesty, I think Skjei+ for Tarasenko makes too much sense even though I would like to keep Skjei.

Another defenseman and goalie signed. Still no forwards.

Stepan signed. There's definitely something brewing because there's way too much cap space available.

If I'm not mistaken, we were operating with only around 2.5M available last season. So seems pretty apparent to me they are leaving a lot of money open to absorb a large contract. I still think Tarasenko is the target.

  4. Mitch hit this one out of the park.

I just hope people don't get their expectations too high on Kai Jones early on. I expect him to back up Plumlee for a little while and give us some energy on the 2nd unit and take a year or two to develop into a starter.

But it's pretty apparent that his ceiling is the roof (lol). And he's going to be so much fun even when he only is contributing energy minutes and some high flying dunks.

Not to mention that Bouknight has the makings of a star. His offense is going to be sooooo much better with NBA spacing. This dude is so smooth and just knows how to get buckets. His off-ball game when he rotates beside LaMelo is going to be insane.

  5. I think Jack Drury is more likely to make the team as a 4th line center than Jarvis is. Regardless, I doubt they plan on either guy outright making the team out of camp and at least have cheap options that you can live with on a 2 way contract.

Also, he's not exactly "big game" in the same sense as Eichel and Tarasenko but Brandon Saad makes a lot of sense too to be the 2nd/3rd line LW.

  6. With several smaller deals being announced (Raanta, Anderson, Martinook, trading for Bear, possibly signing DeAngelo), the only way any of this makes sense is if we are making a strong push for one of the top names on the trade marker with a big salary. Like Eichel or Tarasenko.

Jaycee has great workout habits that were further instilled in him by his father former NFL player, Joe Horn. After Jaycee was drafted his father Joe said to  him, "It's time to get to work".

Just to add, he ALWAYS was doing these same things in college. Dude is the hardest worker I have ever seen and why he is so easy to root for.

    11. Looks like there will be some churn among Carolina’s depth forwards. According to a Facebook post, Jordan Martinook’s family thinks he’s going to the open market, and there are Warren Foegele trade talks. Both player and team appear to want a change.

Both of these surprise me as I thought both were very important pieces. Unless they are asking more than they are worth and 3/4th liners, I don't see why we would want to lose either.

  9. No rumors linking the Canes, just posting for discussion. Sounds like Eichel is on his way out of Buffalo. To me, this is the type of move we need to make to take the next step. Eichel is a point per game center and was the captain of an admittedly underachieving team.

We're most likely losing Dougie, and Eichel could effectively replace Trocheck. From a salary perspective it would be a pretty even swap. So then you can weigh the cost to acquire. I would offer up 1st + Trocheck + Skjei + Ryan Suzuki. Possibly swap Skjei for another 1st if needed. Something along those lines.

    Thoughts?

Also be interesting to see what Tampa Bay does in the off season. Not a lot of free agents on their roster, so how do they get under the cap with 5 guys making up over half of their cap?

No way TB would ever go for it but man would I absolutely love to get ahold of Brayden Point.

Yeah, I love seeing this stuff, but I have to wonder how that agent feels about this being shown and how it makes him look publicly?

If anything it shows his clients and future clients how he does a good job. Really fought for Arnold and defended his hard work and ultimately got more money out of it. I doubt he cares at all what an average fan thinks.

He was a transfer from Rice and played a total of 14 games at USC--but I too am a USC fan and he was not special in that system.  Did they ever try him at nickel?  In a 3-3-5?  Just talking fit here.  He is an athlete---and someone smart enough to see it, someone known for developing unloved talent into winners signed him.  That we know.  The fact that Musgrave did not is possibly another issue.  He makes the PS--in my opinion---and a lot of those guys get a chance by the end of the season.

From my recollection, he was strictly used as a free safety.

One thing I can definitely say though is that almost universally Muschamp players (especially DBs) have performed better in the NFL than they did in college.

  13. Don't get your hopes up for Ibe. He was nothing special at SC and didn't see anything that made me think he was even a low level NFL guy.

I'll pull for him as a former Gamecock and a Panther but don't have high expectations.
