Why are people mad? We’re in a rebuilding phase. 

I wasn't wild about the whole youth pastor energy of Canales at first, but man, there is no doubt he is a sharp guy, and he's already polished when it comes to handling media questions. Another thought I have when watching him is that it's evident that HE believes what he's saying, and that's what makes it easier for others to believe what he's saying. I'm finally starting to feel like he's close to the perfect guy to pair with Morgan to rebuild a young team with a weak culture that we've suffered through this last decade. I really like the different energies they both bring and feel it meshes well. I hope they don't break my heart, haha. 

I'd have more of an issue with XL's one year of production if it came earlier in his college career and then he fell off. He made the most of his opportunities when his number was called, and did it in a pro-style offense, so I'm bullish on his potential to be great for us. 

If they can go into rounds 2 & 3 and get a stud center and one of the defensive guys that fell during that run on offense last night, that will make my weekend. 

I'd like a center with one of our first two picks. There should be several plug in starters at the 33rd pick. Even if Bryce isn't the long term answer, an elite center is good for the long term growth of the team. We were spoiled with Ryan Kalil for all those years. We need to at least try to replace him. 

I don't trust Dan Morgan, but I will give him the benefit of the doubt and I am rooting for him. I do think that an ongoing theme with Fitterer was that he was always convinced that we were in win now mode, and he made a bunch of, in hindsight, terrible decisions/trades with that mindset. I do think they held onto Burns because he talked all that wanting to stay in Carolina talk, and we were going into a new, hopeful season with what a lot of talking heads were saying was one of the greatest assemblings of NFL coaches on one team ever. The reality was the coaching sucked and Burns didn't perform up to the hype last season. If he'd had a season like Brown, we'd have a real conundrum on our hands. He is absolutely not worth the money the Giants paid him, at least not based on his past performance. Some of y'all let Sheena get you too hyped up over her buddy. 

I love them going out and getting two big, nasty guards. You have to put Bryce in a position to succeed in order to evaluate whether he's your long term starter or the guy whose terrible play gets you the first pick in the 2025 draft. Either way, a dominant line is a good thing to have going forward. 

Does anyone else get a Steven Furtick vibe from Canales? I find it unsettling and off putting, but I think maybe it’s a generational thing. He’s a millennial coach, coaching Gen Z players, so he’s on a completely different wavelength than I’m used to.

Are you going to make him keep Chris Tabor? Everyone knows he's your inside guy and was knifing people behind the scenes. You've been accused of hiring yes men... are you going to make the new head coach keep your little Rasputin? Surely Canales knows about this and asked about. Won't send the best message to the targets for your vodka sodas if you keep Tabor around. 

The Panthers are the only team that requested to interview Canales. Is this because no one else thought he was ready for a head coaching interview? Are we supposed to believe that you are smarter than the rest of the league? I know you really want everyone to think that, and you moved a bunch of zeros and ones around a spreadsheet in a way that made you lots of other numbers in a bank account, and a lot of people equate this to intelligence. Is anyone supposed to trust you right now? 

Canales' offense last year was 20th in points and 23rd in yards last season. That's with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, who the Panthers don't have and won't be able to draft after the Bryce fiasco. Is this what a hot hire looks like? A guy who produced a bottom/average offense? The panthers were 20th in the league in ppg in 2022 and you decided not to bring that coach back. Also you traded away both of the best players from that offense to get a QB that put up the second worst rookie qb season in modern league history. 

Speaking of QBs, I'm sure you are impressed by his work with Baker Mayfield. Lots of people talk about Baker's reclamation, but his stats this year were similar to what they were in 2018 and 2020. Baker has bad years when he's hurt (2021) or when he's on a dumpster fire team like the Browns in 2019 and....your panthers in 2022. Is it a successful reclamation project or a successful hostage extraction. Guess we'll find out! but luckily for Panthers fans, if all goes as well, we'll have a slightly above mediocre offense to cheer for in 2024. Huzzah!

But let's talk about that offense. Baker Mayfield was 8th in the league in play action passes in 2023, and Bryce was 18th. I don't pay for the fancy stats that break down how they did per pass, but I do know Baker played under center, and Bryce...well Bryce was not as much. I also know from tons of film breakdowns that are easy to find on youtube that Bryce struggles with PA from center because he's not able to turn his head away from the line to sell it. He has to peak the entire time because he's too small and will lose the receivers in their routes. Did he address this at all? Did you ask? 

Bucs offense has a TON of weapons. Without pointing fingers, the panthers...don't. In the past you've said Bryce doesn't need wide receivers because he's a point guard. Do you still believe that? Are we going chase some free agents to Carolina? Tee Higgens is probably going to Tennessee to work with a coach that wanted nothing to do with you. Are you going to command under penalty of being fired Dan Morgan to break the bank on Mike Evans, a guy who's played 10 years in the league and is on the wrong side of thirty? A player that Panthers fans all rightly hate? 

How many years did you promise this guy? Panthers need several drafts worth of good players, and by the time you cold realistically get that team in place, Bryce will be in his...what? Third, fourth year? Staring down an extension? So the Panthers never really get to benefit from the biggest advantage of a rookie qb: cost control. Are you going to fire this guy when Bryce is still making you look like an idiot? A dramatically improved Bryce is probably not even league average. Will Bryce be entering the end of his rookie deal with ANOTHER new head coach...if he even survives. 

Oh yeah, protecting Bryce. Bryce was second in the league in sacks last year. Baker, with Canales as OC, with better players at basically every position, was...8th. Am I supposed to believe that a QB smaller than your wife is going to survive long enough to get a San Fran caliber team around him to overcome his deficiencies? 

Any congrats to canales. He's getting life changing, fug you money for a contract he'll likely never see the end of. But don't worry about that DAvid. It just means you get to do your favorite thing; hire coaches to try to prove you're smarter than the rest of the NFL.

This time David, it'll work. You'll show all those other idiot owners who the real genius is, and they'll all tell you how cool and neat and respected you are via emails you can read at wherever rich sickos go now that Epstein's island is off line.

I know all the doomers are lamenting this hire/promotion, but I can totally see Dan being a guy that stands up to Tepper. His interview probably consisted of him telling Tepper, “I fuging warned you, Dude! I told you bro!”

The only person that could possibly talk straight with Tepper is Nicole, and you know she’s embarrassed as hell that this season has gone so badly after she was gifted an executive role. I’m holding out a shred of hope that she presses him to hire an experienced consultant to find a GM and HC and stop trying to run the damn thing like a hedge fund. Beyond that, I’d say we’re screwed long term. Ugh. 

I fuging hate Reich so much. Two great plays and then he shoehorns Sanders into the mix and boom, 4th down. He just can’t help himself.

Sanders’ biggest contribution was knowing not to make a play on the ball when Theilen caught it for a first down. I hate it for the guy; he seems like a good dude. At least he got paid. 

If we can figure out why our offensive line fell off a cliff since last season, maybe. Oh and Chuba Hubbard needs to start full time.

Was nice to see him actually catching some passes today. Hopefully he got the monkey off his back this game and can continue on an upward trajectory.

Here's another example. The vast majority of players in the XFL played power 5 football and have additional experience they didn't have in college, making them better players. At worst, the XFL is on an equal footing with the ACC from a talent standpoint. So why do hundreds of times more people watch ACC football than XFL football? Give me a reason that isn't branding.

And if the players didn't need the brands for people to watch, the NFLPA would just stage its own games. No one would watch that so they don't do it.

Totally, buddy. I know I follow the Panthers solely for their sweet color scheme and mascot/branding. It’s got nothing to do with watching Smitty and Jake pull off X Clown against the Rams, or Luke stiff arm Romo on Thanksgiving. The NFL could throw a jersey and tights on any one of us and we’d be just as compelling to watch.

I’m all for it. Why does everyone instinctively poo on the guy actually producing the product rather than the old rich guys who mostly inherited their ownership stake?
