Being a good OC doesnt mean he will be a good head coach.  Way too many variables.  And hiring BS just because he had a good year with stroud and assuming he can fix Young would be a panther move for sure.  If BS is the guy is tepper going to let give him time to grow into the role because the dude is as green as they come.

In closing hiring this dude simply because he had a great offense one year is pretty moronic in my opinion.

It would be a bit more logical if he got hired and just let EE handle all things defense and he just focused on the offense but I dont know if it works like.  Each head coach has a scheme in mind for what they think would be successful

I understand your point of view and generally I agree but, you have to look at the Shanahan tree and see the success rate that has occured, and that includes DeMeco Ryans. The only thing that would hold back Slowick's potential will be Tepper though.

Unsure how many they'll widdle it down to, but I don't really care to see Brian J, Morris, Monken or Quinn have a 2nd.  I will say, since we have a consultant, I wouldn't be surprised if Morris gets a 2nd as a guy to juxtapose the young ones to.  Tabor..I mean, that was obvi courtesy lol.  I will also say, I'm not riding the Frank Smith train for some reason.

Can also see Slowik bowing out early if they pull off an upset this weekend, so he may focus on building something special in HOU.

Otherwise, I'd hope Macdonald, Canales, Callahan (& maybe Evero) would be the lot.

Ben Johnson seems to be a foregone conclusion he's our HC or bust so he doesn't warrant much extra thought at this point haha.

Btw, as I was researching Callahan, I saw a video from the Locked On Titans podcast that Callahan is having a second interview with the Titans... So Callahan to the Titans may be in play.

  3. I saw somewhere that Dan Quinn is returning to Dallas as DC... Maybe someone can confirm that.

I have a sneaky suspicion that a defensive coach may end up a front runner. I would not be shocked at all if Mike MacDonald ends up, at most, a finalist

  4. Also, two names on that list (Canales and Slowick) has not even accepted the Panther's request to interview yet... Not sure if they are interested or just focusing on playoffs but seems kind of weird they haven't accepted yet.

A candidate connection I didn't realize at first: Dave Canales and Ed Dodds were together for like 7 years in Seattle.

I said this in a earlier thread but it's interesting the amount of connections there is between the GM candidates and the HC candidates....

    Canales and Greenberg

    Canales and Dobbs/Morgan?

    Monken/MacDonald and Matteo

    Quinn and Dobbs/ Morgan?

    Morris and Greenberg

    Smith and Harley

    B.Johnson and Disner

    Br Johnson and Halaby

    Am I missing any???

Rapoport seems firmly convinced Belichick is in play here

I've heard Falcons are in play for Belichick.... That would awesome if we wind up with Vrabel though and Falcons end up with Belichick... Could be a fun rivalry in the NFC South

As for GM/HC search, I don’t know. I imagine going back weeks ago they already had candidates preemptively ranked into levels or tiers. I think the candidates that you are seeing them target for the GM search clearly points towards the organization wanting a contracts/cap guy in that role for one of two reasons.1) Bring in a guy like Harbaugh, Vrabel, or Belichick. OR 2) Let Adrian Wilson and Dan Morgan evaluate the players and the new guy count the beans.

I imagine the Panthers will take a shot at Ben Johnson and some of the bigger names but to be honest, it’s probably not going to happen, and they probably have a plan for that. If I had to guess, Johnson, Slowik, and Macdonald is on top of the list. The next group would probably consist of the more experienced guys I already mentioned. Having a GM like they are targeting would give you the flexibility you may need in coaching cycle of such high volume.

My personal guess? Johnson is out of the equation so they will take a swing at Slowik and Macdonald and if that falls through, they will settle for Vrabel if he doesn’t land in New England. (Keep in mind Mayo is well liked and the Patriots don’t have to apply the Rooney Rule to hire him based on his contract). If plan B falls through, hold on to your seats.

Mostly just my opinion but there you go.

It’s too early to tell and with them being in such a sensitive position regarding optics and potential rejection embarrassment just for asking somebody to talk to them about a job, I expect it to be pretty quiet. With the advisory group also assisting, that’s going to add a whole other layer to controlling what information gets out. This group was likely hired to facilitate the entire process and not just for lining up interviews or providing input.

My honest opinion based off of rumblings I’ve picked up and observations... I think David Tepper is taking back control of the team in a way. I don’t know how many of you picked up on it in his press conference and even going back to interviews last year but many have alluded to everything being “voted on” or “collaborated via committee” and since Scott Fitterer’s arrival that is how things have been ran. Scott himself even stated this was the type of leader he was on multiple occasions. Nicole Tepper even has this directly in her biography on the team’s web page.

She's most comfortable serving in-person on the front lines – through providing words of support and encouragement, volunteering, and financial donations. She believes in a team-first approach to decision-making and leadership, emphasizing collaboration rather than solo decision making.”

This is another sign that points towards this large group of folks voting on things like a council meeting. I believe that way of leading has been balled up and thrown into the trash and the team is starting new and trusting a group that has helped the 49ers, Eagles, and Rams work on themselves (all three of which are currently in the postseason).

I agree... Although I think it is likely it will come down to Frank Smith, Bobby Slowick, or Mike Macdonald and quite frankly.... I would be ok with these three.

I am particularly intrigued by Macdonald because of his background with both Harbaughs and really has a dynamic defense. Don't get me wrong, Evero has done an amazing job with the little he had this season but there is something about that Ravens defense that just puts him over so don't sleep on MacDonald!

  8. I don't even think he is on the list of candidates for this cycle to get interviewed by the Panthers... As far as I am aware of, he has only interviewed for the Chargers for their HC position. Then again, he was a late candidate last year and had already interviewed last year twice so maybe they have enough conviction on him to determine his rank in the coaching search.

  9. Has anyone noticed that on both the GM and HC coaching search, some come from the same team?  I may be reading too much into this but it almost seems like the Panthers may want to pair a GM and coach who has already worked together before.

Matteo+MacDonald or Matteo+Monken from the Ravens

    Greenberg+Canales from the Buccaneers

Frank Smith spent time with the Saints which Kai Harley was a part of the Saints during that time

Dan Morgan and Dan Quinn worked together in Seattle and so did Ed Dobbs as well.

it's just interesting about all the connections...

Don't know anything about him, but I can just see all the clown profiles now

Any Harbaugh fans will love him because he is cut from that tree if we don't get Jim Harbaugh. I think he will pull some Harbaugh guys from the offensive side to help get this offense going.... Definitely one of my top 5 to become HC.

  11. As someone who lives in GA and works with Falcon fans, I can tell you that they are rejoicing. Much like us, Atlanta has had their revolving door at QB and it proved costly yesterday with playoff implications on the line. So it was funny hearing a couple of my buddies say,"I can't believe I am saying this but GO PANTHERS! Beat the Bucs!"
