  1. As much of a potential mentor as Andy Dalton could be, I think we've got the coaching to negate the need for that aspect in a player. If Corral shows enough promise, I'd much rather dump Dalton and keep the young guy if we only roll with two QBs. I think BY has enough maturity and learning capacity that we won't really being hurt by going with two young QBs.

  2. If they're going to essentially nix the whole kicking game (outside of scoring plays), they need to add some way to maintain nuance to the field position battle. It's such a huge part of the game - it *IS* the game in many ways. I'm all for player safety, but this will fundamentally and drastically alter the game in ways that I don't think are good for the overall package.

  3. I had an instance in an airport while we were going through security and my little child was on the floor and crawled into the main path of an airport shuttle that was flying down the hall. I only barely managed to snatch him up before he would have been crushed by this vehicle that was going *way* too fast and didn't even see. I had to just disregard the "security" that was trying to wand me and go save him while they were freaking out that I wasn't complying. I sometimes have flashbacks, imagining what could have happened. That parental instinct and that sense of possible loss were just a spike of unforgettable adrenaline and panic that is forever woven into my nervous system. I really feel for *anyone* who's had to suffer such a loss.

Could see why Corral would be a little miffed at this:

“So we thought the rookie way was the right way to go, to draft and develop, and fix the problem rather than taking swings here and there. … Eventually, you just have to draft and develop your own guy.”

I feel for Corral, but life, as they say, isn't fair. He went from being the "future guy" to having no chance to show he *could be* the future guy, to being an afterthought altogether. When life hits, sometimes it hits hard, and you've just got to roll with it. But the setting sun is always followed by another rise. If he's got the fortitude to hang in there, his story in the NFL isn't yet written in full. I'll pull for him, if for no other reason than the tough circumstances he's been dealt. And I'd also like it if he is able to secure an ongoing roster spot with the Panthers.

however, he is a sketchy weasel at best  … and that’s giving short shrift to the weasel

Sketchy weasels are often birthed in circumstances that foster the growth of "sketchy weasels".

Side note - I've always loved the word weasel. It's just fun to say. Try it aloud...right now. 😜

  6. Rhule wasn't a fit for the NFL game, and he's a bit of a salesman, which surely isn't my favorite personality type. But, like everyone else, he's just trying to find his place and bring what he can to the world. No hate. I wish him well. And he's had success in the very role he's in now - redirecting the momentum of college programs.

  7. You simply cannot reduce a player's projection with a high degree of accuracy based on *any* set of numbers. There are myriad factors that go into all statistical performances, so many of which are well outside the individual player himself.

You've got to be able to get a "bird's eye" view so to speak, a macroscopic/comprehensive perspective that *attempts* to account for all those variables. That's the best that can be done, and even the best evaluators make many, many errors in those judgments.

    We'll see.

  8. I know endless analysis and speculation are a part of things, but the bottom line is that we never know who a player will be in the NFL *until* he steps onto an NFL field. No amount of digging into a players surrounding circumstances, test scores, attributes, statistics, etc will grant clarity.

  9. Yeah, in regard to the latter, you *must* get pressure on the QB to win in the NFL, and if you've only got one guy that can be doubled/schemed out of the game, you're just putting unreasonable pressure on coverage, and the way the game has changed, you're going to be in trouble - winning shootouts in best case scenarios.

  10. I slightly prefer Stroud, but I won't be bothered at all. I think Young has an incredible skill set and the potential to be a great franchise QB. And, of course, it's a team game first and foremost. A QB is his surroundings in many ways. (including coaching and players) Nothing and no one exists in a vacuum, with all things influencing all *other* things. I think the surrounding elements (currently) here make either QB a likely good one. The soil is fertile and ready to sprout a franchise quarterback, is what I'm trying to say.

And looking at Bryce's individual strengths, it's hard not to be excited. Sharp mind, *quick* mind with excellent anticipation, looks to be a good leader in many ways, instincts are developed. I'll be thrilled and hopeful.

  11. It just makes no sense to dispose of a guy you spent not-insignificant assets on to acquire, a guy that has had *no* chance to show anything yet. Young, cheap, unknown potential at the most important position on the field. Yeah, let's just dump him, smdh.
