  1. And I've noticed that too... the flaws that many of us here constantly seem to call out, it's like he realizes it weeks to months later and then acknowledges the additional issues it caused. All those things really are why so many here are hard on him. We had out issues with Ron and his seeming stubbornness, but this isn't stubbornness with Rhule. It's so frustrating because it comes off as being clueless.
  2. Yeah, they're saying that's his job moving forward. But that being said, I still agree the competition wad a charade and Rhule really missed the boat when it came to reps and getting guys in the best position to compete and be ready for the regular season. I trust Baker will be fine and the next week or two of practice will be good enough, but it would've been nice if he had been getting all of the time already lost to develop more chemistry with the 1s. But again, it'll be fine. But I think this is as good of a time as any to point out, that for all of his flaws as a gameday strategist, manager, etc., I think delegating reps, roles, and preparing guys for their roles may be Rhule's biggest weakness. The flipping and flopping has really hurt our team as a whole since he's been here. This goes all the way back to his first season with the Whitehead fiasco.
  3. I think I said it at the draft, but I think Brandon Smith could be Micah Parsons-lite. Almost same size, same athleticism, similar versatility. He is going to be fun to watch. And all of the late draft guys are equally as exciting and intriguing to me. And i loved the Barno pick, as he could potentially and completely replace Reddick while growing into a much more well-rounded player, and Mays very well could end up a starter this year.
  4. This honestly stinks. He looked bad, but again, I don't think he was ever given a chance by Rhule, and this ultimately feels like Rhule won. There definitely is something going on between Rhule and Fitt, and this feels like Rhule won off some bullshit. He gets to keep his beloved PJ and Darnold and never has to even try to help or develop Corral, which is what he intended all along. So glad we got Baker though. There's no denying he's the best QB on the roster, and I'm still excited about where he can take us if Rhule keeps his dumbass out of the way.
  5. The scarier scenario is what if we do win those first 3 games, a la last season, and then he starts to go Super Rhule again, and we can't win for the next 10 weeks or so? Ahh, what a time to be a Panthers fan! Thanks Tepper!
  6. And if I'm not mistaken, he also got destroyed on the sequence when PJ came in on the last drive.
  7. My goodness. I just don't understand how Bama's offensive lines stay so dominant and then when these guys get to the pros they look like this??? Like wtf is going on. Just big for no fuging reason. He plays like he's 145 lbs., not 445 lbs.
  8. That's what drew me in after last week. I kept noticing him blocking in-line during the game, but then there was one play where he chased a guy down during a run and completely obliterated him before the back wad tackled and I was like, "Damn. I'm in love."
  9. I have been saying the reps were needed and having a better supporting cast made a huge difference, but he has not shown anything resembling promise of any kind in any of the snaps he's taken. If he had anything of promise, we'd see flashes. I really hope he pans out, but he looks about as bad as any rookie QB we've ever fielded.
  10. That was the one I saw before Ickey gave up two sacks. That was rough... and discouraging. I know he has time to get better, but I didn't expect to see that.
  11. TBH, in terms of poise and composure specifically, he reminds me a lot of Darnold and Pickles. It just looks horrible. Happy feet, just tossing the ball up when he feels pressure, and despite being athletic, it looks like his legs are dead when he tries to take off to scramble. And yeah, those picks were about as bad as it can get. I understand he came from a very remedial offense in college and there's a steep learning curve, but that has very little to do with your decision making once the ball is snapped. I get he doesn't know fully what he's looking at yet, but that tossing the ball up like he is just looks like one of those traits that guys don't do/have if they're going to be any kind of good. In comparison, Zappe looked damn good and composed. He only fuged up on the pick because he clearly doesn't have a strong arm and he locked on to a sideline throw and threw it late. That's gonna happen to even the most seasoned QB on any late throw to the sidelines. Outside of that play, he was composed, decisive, showed great anticipation, and for the most part, accuracy. It looked like night and day in contrast with Corral.
  12. The NASCAR analogy about left turns was classic Smitty.
  13. Idk man. Matt definitely looked better, but he still looked bad. Those deep throws were especially troubling. I know the blocking was atrocious, but I don't see anything to be excited about with Matt right now. And PJ played like poo tonight. Usually, he'll have one or two big mistakes, but he has several big plays/throws to outweigh them. He only had the bad plays tonight.
  14. It's so hard to explain, because Daley really looked promising his rookie year. But he has progressively gotten worse each year since. It is both disappointing and fascinating.
  15. I honestly don't think I will even watch. This is an exercise in futility. I don't know that our depth has ever been this bad. Don't get me wrong, the starters and top half or so of the roster is about as deep and as talented as we have ever had, but man... some of these 2nd and 3rd string guys... whew.
  16. The blocking is horrible, but unless Corral is hurt, putting Walker back in is bullshit. That aside, I think I've seen enough to state with confidence that Matt Corral is not the future at QB. Abs now with an injury, I expect they're going to IR him and keep Darnold and PJ ad the backups and sign Baker long-term.
  17. I agree to disagree, Scot. I think he's more of an NFL QB than Sam. I'm not saying PJ is a starter. I'm not saying he's some incredible talent. But I trust him more than I do Sam, and thus, with what we have, I would rather keep him than Sam.
  18. As I've stated repeatedly, I think PJ is actually the second best QB on this roster currently. I like PJ. But I just don't understand the logic behind this. Whether you are like me and think we should cut Darnold and PJ should be the backup, or if you think PJ is the odd man out at the final cuts, it doesn't make sense in either scenario. Don't get me wrong, Matt looked like a deer in headlights in game one, and a really scared one at that. He looked overwhelmed. But, I've made it a point to emphasize, that's partly a product of not getting reps in practice/preseason games, and being surrounded by mostly roster filler in the 4th quarter of a preseason game. So, despite how bad he looked, I would like to see him with some NFL level talent around him for an extended amount of time. Even if he gets the 2nd half tonight, it's still gonna be with mostly roster fodder and future cuts. And this brings us back to why the reps they're wasting on Darnold are so important.
  19. Oh, he also said even though the report came out about Baker being named the starter already, he expects it to be made official sooner than later.
  20. I actually meant to post, Gantt was in local radio here in Raleigh earlier and said the majority of the action will be 2nd and 4rd stringers tomorrow and that the staff wants to get Corral some more meaningful reps with a better supporting cast around him... and Gantt is in an official capacity with the team, so there you have it. I still think PJ will get a bulk of the snaps, but I'm curious if they let Corral go first with the 2s first?
  21. I actually saw a podcast clip from Chris Long where he and the co-hosts showed the clip, were laughing at it, and said they should make "You sick f*ck" the ad across the walls behind the endzones. I think it's likely it becomes the go-to chant of opposing fans.
  22. I've thought about that, but I don't think it's possible considering this was agreed to by both the NFLPA and the NFL. And the NFL reportedly wanted an entire season at minimum, so I'm thinking this isn't really the kind of suspension he can appeal.
