  1. Not too awful big of a deal since Chicago is picking aren't they? Fields is a great runner but a marginal passer so far yet I still don't think they give up and draft a QB as he has proven he needs more time and can potentially turn into a solid passer as well. Plus, Fields seems to be a good guy all the way around with a good attitude so he hasn't reached his ceiling yet as his mental is there. Chicago would be insane to draft a QB in this draft unless they trade out with a QB needy team in which case Houston looses their choice of QB's but something tells me the top two QB's aren't going to be the most memorable QB's from this class so no loss either way in my opinion.

Pineiro is a pending FA so he'd have to be re-signed before this became a question. I'd prefer him though. Gonzalez is just too injury prone to rely on IMO.

This EXACTLY after thinking about what you are saying as it totally makes sense. I agree with about half of what you say and when I do its like you just clarified things for me and helped me realize the direction we need to go,

Even if Tabor isn’t retained (and I really hope he is as our ST has been outstanding),  I don’t see why or how we cut Piniero. He’s been money since the Atlanta game. And Gonzalez, though a good K, has been on IR the past two seasons due to non-contact injuries, which makes availability a major question mark at this point.

That is a good point and very true. Pinero has given us he gift of being available which makes his value skyrocket not to mention he has been very reliable as well which makes him even more valuable to the team.

  4. I dont see anything wrong with him not being there and couldnt care less wither way. Too big a deal made of something so simple. He is a multibillionaire, chances are he was working on doing his due diligence on who the future coach will be. He could have been at home watching and on the phone with potential coaches while studying the film and other materials on his current coach to see what direction he takes. Im assuming he was doing work he had to do as nobody gets to where he is by slacking on their ass somewhere as Jim Trotter made it sound like he was unless they were born with a silver spoon up their arse hole.

  5. I was one of the wrong who was calling for either his replacement or more kickers be brought in to compete after the ATL game and he came out and completely corrected himself looking very good the WHOLE rest of the year. Bad call on my behalf which is why I am not a coach or GM obviously. For those that said stick with him, you were EXACTLY RIGHT.

Now we have a tough decision unless im mistaken. Didnt we have a guy who was doing quite well on IR that Pinero replaced? Maybe they both compete in camp but damn Eddie Pinero has been a very bright spot in the season after ONE bad game and those of us who wanted him gone or at least new kickers brought in to pressure him could not have been more wrong. He had one bad game and an overall very solid season. He should be part of plans moving forward.

Why? He had 1 catch for 2 yards before the Saints went into prevent mode on the last drive and left him wide open for his second catch. 17 catches and 28 catches in 2 years doesn’t make me giddy. 1 TD in 2 years?

In the 2021 draft, 4 WRs drafted later than him, a WR dumped by his drafting team, a WR who missed 16 games due to injury, and 3 RBs drafted later than him have more career receptions than Marshall. Heck, our rock handed backup RB and backup TE drafted that year have only 6 receptions less.

He played better than his rookie year but 28 receptions by your WR2? That’s awful. He was 152th in receptions according to ESPN before this week and his 2 receptions. That’s including RBs and TEs. Outside of the OL, who were healthy this year, Marshall was 2nd in offensive snap counts to DJ.

Also, having a big WR doesn’t give me warm fuzzies with 1 TD after 2 years.

    KB (2 years) 136-1949-16TD

    Funchess (2 years) 54-844-9TD

    Marshall (2 years) 45-628-1TD

Not living up to Funchess, who was drafted around the same slot and was the 3rd receiving option behind KB/Ginn and Olsen isn’t good even if we don’t have Cam. Cam was never putting up 5000 yard passing seasons. We only had 300-500 less passing yards the past two years than we did in Cam’s MVP season (10-15% less).

I guess Marshall could break out at some time but it’s not good that he’s not even close to living up to two big WRs who had to contend with Olsen. Heck, take out Olsen and WRs may have more receiving yards in 2021-2022 than 2014-2016.

IMHO, we need a better WR to pair with DJ.

We still need to hang on to him and continue to develop in hopes he will pan out well but i agree we need to search for more at WR definitely until he proves it or incase he never does.

I think they're still in the Pie thread.

Nah im back on this one. Yep he looked like crap yesterday BUT with his overall performance this year I would sign him to a normal deal for what he has produced so far in his career and nothing amazing. If he takes it bring him in to compete in camp. He looked better overall and looked as if he could potentially be a backup. So his game yesterday stunk, does that mean we should throw him away if he is willing to sign a very fair deal? Not at all.

we havent tanked multiple seasons, we have thrown just enough poo on the wall to perpetually suck with no clear plan

No we haven't I agree and we wont be tanking as was obvious this season and in my opinion that's a good thing. It is not like a great team cannot be built without a tank season. We just haven't built a great team yet or capitalized when we had what was almost a potential great team like 2015. We do have to shake something up though as what we have been doing has not been working well with consistency but we are building a solid core.

as evidenced by 22 wins in 4 years, if they cannot see how this franchise needs to be totally rebuilt then thats on them

the proof is in the pudding as they say

Totally rebuilt yes but to just sit there and tank multiple seasons to rebuild is not realistic. Too many jobs and careers on the line to expect anyone to actually go along with this mentality. Look at this season. After three games we had people screaming to tank. No player or coach in their right mind will EVER tank and sacrifice their own money, career and livelihood all to get a higher draft pick. The whole tank philosophy is flawed thinking from the ground up. Though it would be great to have the number 1 pick, if we dont lose enough to get it with the players going as hard as they can to save their own asses, it just is not in the cards that season.

He is an elite runner.  Special.  And as a 2nd year player, in his 2nd offense already with bad weapons.....Fields had more passing TDs than the Carolina Panthers.

Passing on Fields was an obvious mistake.  Always has been.  Nothing wrong with referencing it.  It was the right call and we blew it.  And it was the right call frankly regardless of what happens with Fields.

if you need a QB....you don't draft a DB in the top 10.  Reason #4 at least of why we should get rid of our GM too.

I agree with part of what you say. Not sure if i believe Fields will be anything special other than his legs but  also agree on our GM. I don't think he is anything amazing and would not be upset should we try to find better. Im up for almost anything at this point and just want to see this team turn it around to be a playoff competitor every single year to where anything short of playoffs and a good solid winning record is considered a disappointment.

Hendon hooker. Some guy from east western north state university. Certainly no one good

If one of the top 5 guys drops to us which I think will, I would still consider taking Hooker as well in later rounds if he is there because of his injury. He will sit a year and rehab and who knows we could end up in a couple years having multiple good QB's to choose from.

I think someone will trade with Bears and grab a quarterback and don't think it will be Panthers.   Colts, maybe?

It's safe to say Young and Stroud will be gone early, I am hoping someone drops to us like Will Levis or Anthony Richardson.

Am I being delusional?  Is trading up our only option to land one of the top 4 QBs in the class?

I would like to see one of those two drop to us as well and if so we should absolutely take a chance and go for one of them. I believe one will drop to us.

    Well

He's not at the same level as Watt or Bosa, so he'll have to take significantly less.

This, I am all about keeping him but not at bank breaking prices. He is a good player but not tops in the league and should be paid according to that. If he demands highest in league then unfortunately keeping him and not trading will turn out to be a bad move but if he take what his true value is then he is a very good piece to have moving forward.

  14. Anti-Tanker here or shall we say "realist" as I would love to know who in the absolute hell player or coach wise is going to poo up their season and risk their own damn jobs and careers in order to get a higher draft pick?

The whole "Tank" philosophy is not realistic so it completely kills the argument from the start. I would more or less worry about who to grab at our current draft position rather than whining about the final record of the team. But, I guess we could sit back and ponder over how Shaq could have purposely missed a few more tackle and let in a few more touchdowns or how DJ could have dropped a few TD's or how Foreman could have fumbled the ball all on purpose to help our draft status meanwhile ruining their own chances at a future to make all the tankers happy on a message board. Or potentially how Wilks could have intentionally lost a few games or made bad decisions on purpose to sabotage us meanwhi8le guaranteeing the end of his entire career if found out or proven to be true while also sabotaging whatever chance he had at securing a head coaching position in the future with whatever team he may go to next etc... Its all goofy to even go with that concept from the beginning.

But then someone will say in the history of the league there have been a couple instances of tanking etc etc. Yep maybe there has been as far as it being an outlier but in the history of the world there have also been instances of someone jumping out of a plane and their parachute failing yet still living somehow which doesn't mean we should all follow that example and go jump out of a plan with no parachute because there have bee a few isolated incidences that we think may have happened.

Also, what happens when we tank on purpose and hurt everyone's careers on the team and then potential select a dud ass quarterback for that entire wasted year of evaluating nothing and doing nothing because we were too damn busy trying to find ways to lose on purpose and trying to convince players to screw up on purpose to mess up their careers and potential money all so we can get that to pick then we screw it up all to be damned and get us a Ryan Leaf? I say do what we can do each year and play to our best while coaching to our best to properly evaluate talent because this bullpoo tank way is not even close to reality.

What about all the articles that come out that reference FO personnel, coaches, and players that have stated examples of franchises not playing to win for draft picks including the recent Dolphin scenario? I assume you’re saying they’re liars?

All of them? Predominantly as in most teams do not play to lose. Outliers exist and there will always be a "what about this" and "what about that" but most teams do not play to lose. If your job is on the line and you are on the field playing, are you going to play to lose to help your teams draft position knowing you may find yourself cut at seasons end?
