Fitterer has done a lot of good things here, and lord knows he is infinitely better than the other two dummies we had before him.  But not trading Burns for two firsts (even if they were multi years down the road) is one of the most bone headed GM moves across the league in recent years.

This team isn't close to a Super Bowl, and I'm assuming at some point during the Burns talks they knew they would want a QB in this class, which would cost them move up capital.  We could've used those picks.

Spilled milk at this point, but now Burns holding out makes not trading him that much worse.  You got nothing, he will give nothing (until week 9, when he's required to come back for tenure), and then he walks anyways, just like I said he would.

    Good things? What good things?

    -Signed Darnold

    -Traded for Mayfield

    -Traded up to draft Corral

-Didn’t resign Gilmore despite trading for him for not even a full season.

-Picked up Darnold’s 5th year option.

-Traded a 3rd for CJ Henderson

    -Extended Ian Thomas

    -Extended Donte Jackson

-Extended Robbie Anderson ( whom we are paying 10 million for this year).

He’s not the GM everyone on here acts like he is. People just like him because he’s not Hurney or Gettleman. I’m not so sure he’s better than either at this point.

Since I’m still not allowed to create my own topic, this thread seems applicable. This board gets harder and harder to read every day. I don’t understand why half of you are here. Just jump ship already and find a new team if all you can bring to the table is crying about our team. I get things have been iffy the last few years Rhule times were hard times. Stop hating on our players and our team. I’m a die hard panthers fan who lives in Philly, if anyone knows a thing or 2 about baseball a guy here named Trea Turner had an awful year and the fans decided to have his back and give him a standing ovation. (if Philadelphians can do it anyone can). Since then he has been playing at an elite level. Maybe if once in a while we stopped criticizing the team we are all supposed to love and just cheer and root for them it could be beneficial. If you give up just give up and take the negativity to a Saints or Falcons board because I’m tired of everyone acting like the Panthers are their least favorite team instead of their favorite.

The players give the fans something to cheer about not vice versa. The fans spend hard earned money (some folks spend more than they can afford) to support the team because it’s the only escape they have and the only thing they have look forward to in some situations. Kids latch on and make heroes out of the players and idolize to be like them one day. The players make a lot of money to play a game, it’s their job to earn the support of the fanbase.

“Let’s support our guys even though they suck year after year and maybe one day we won’t suck.” Sounds like something that would come out of a Cardinals or Chargers message board.

Nobody hates good players more than Panther fans

Nobody over values their players than Panthers fans. It’s the realists in the crowd that bring everyone back down to earth.

The teams social media is partly to blame, building up every single player that comes through the door whether they are worth a damn or not.

PJ Walker come on down...or back or whatever you call it. I mean he moves well at least, is probably cheap as anything and wont see the field anyhow so why not run scout teams each week?

He can manage the game well enough should we get into a situation without Bryce and Dalton.

  5. Saints and Falcons will be neck and neck for it at 9-8 or so with us a few games back. Tampa finishes with 3-4 wins as the Todd Bowles experiment implodes on iteself.

I can easily see us starting the season slow for multiple reasons. A) New staff B) new scheme C) Rookie QB D) Harder first half of schedule E) Frank Reich tends to start slow and finish strong in his career as coach. Would not be surprised if we are 2-6 or 1-7 first half of season and end up finishing 7-10 or so.

If he struggles at LT in the spread as you suggest, do you believe he can be successful at guard?

Absolutely. I think that’s where he belongs. If Frank ran more sets  21 personnel and had more of a vertical run scheme I think he would be fine at LT. But asking him to play LT when you stay in 11, 12, 13 personnel is out of his wheelhouse I believe.

I can't think of a better time to have 3 rookie and 2 sophomore OLmen than now with our vets to guide them along with Campen and the rest of the staff.

Ekwonu already seems like he'll be solid to great somewhere on the line. If just 2 of the other 4 young guys develop in this ideal scenario for them, we're in great shape.

This is the first time Ekwonu has played in the spread. When there were spread concepts early in the season last year he struggled. He doesn’t have Ben McAdoo and Steve Wilks to help him out by running the ball 35 times per game.

You should take the L and move on

Sorry but I’m not. Most of the people that are disagreeing with me will be the first ones to trash the OL protection once we have a few injuries. Then all you will hear is “why do we have this guy or that guy” blah blah blah.

We were lucky last year and didn’t lose any until the final game. Imagine we lose one guy for the season (let’s say Moton). And a few games in we lose Christensen to his ankle again. These “developmental” guys are protecting your QB. Or imagine we have multiple starters out in years past.

If he’s developmental put his ass on the practice squad.

I'm not saying he'll be generational, I'm just saying you're putting way too much stock into the pedigree of a backup offensive lineman who showed enough to earn a roster spot over a former first round pick.

Talent can be found anywhere, and it's not like we're asking him to be the day 1 starter.

Here's a more current list of talent that are pro bowl caliber players who went to non-power schools:

    • Kyle Juszczyk - Harvard
    • James Bradberry - Samford
    • Demario Davis - Arkansas State
    • Tariq Woolen - Texas San Antonio
    • Jeremy Reaves - South Alabama
    • Josh Allen - Wyoming
    • Taylor Moton - Western Michigan
    • Tyreek Hill - West Alabama
    • Maxx Crosby - Eastern Michigan
    • Trey Hendrickson - Florida Atlantic
    • Matt Judon - Grand Valley State
    • Adam Thielen - Minnesota State
    • Jeremy Chinn - Southern Illinois

Also harping on one game in college is even more asinine of an argument, I absolutely hate that. "This college beat that college, so this one player obviously sucks". No. poo happens and it's a team game. One game does not mean you suck.

"better not draft this pat mahomes guy. He only played at Texas Tech. They never produced a good QB before and they got their ass kicked by Iowa State this past season lolol scrub can't play"

TL;DR - Dude is a backup and it doesn't matter where he went to school if he can play. If he beat out the other dudes on the roster who went to bigger schools, more power to him.

When I brought up GW, it was to put into perspective the competition level he is used to. The school I played for played GW. I’m telling you there is a big difference between borderline D2 competition and the SEC/ACC.

I have followed this franchise since 95, regardless of GM or coach they always have too much faith in “their guy”. Hence the days of David Foucault, Nate Chandler, Byron Bell, and Mike Remmers. I really don’t want to see this guy blocking for our future franchise QB.

OG Jahri Evans (Saints - 6x Pro Bowl + All-Pro + SB winner) went to my alma mater, a Division 2 school in PA. His regular competition was Kutztown, Slipper Rock, Lock Haven and Millersville.  They would get blown out by "powerhouse" Shippensburg.

What exactly is your point? Small college lineman can't succeed? Because I just gave you one that went to more pro bowls than ANY Carolina Panther not named Luke Kuechly.

It’s great you guys keep naming all of these random examples instead of the outcome of the average player from these schools.

There have been successful players from the small schools, yes. But what is the average compared to the larger conferences- significantly less.

They certainly aren’t playing SEC defenses/offenses every week. Writing off a player that teammates and coaches are high on because of where he played in college is just pure nonsense. He outplayed a couple terrible vets for the 3rd string OT position. He still might not make the final roster, but if he does it’s ok. I think people on here are looking for reasons to complain…

I’m just saying I think it’s unacceptable to even be an option for him to potentially block for Bryce Young when there are people on the market, in the past draft, past FA, and those available now.

  12. 1 hour ago, ForJimmy said:

Haha is that your new spin? They beat out vets who we all know are terrible for a roster spot. If a better option is available everyone is all for it.

I can play your game though. What college did he got to? Tulsa? Not good enough…

Tulsa isn’t exactly a small school when it comes to football. Population yeah.

  13. 2 hours ago, Ricky Spanish said:

    Exactly.

He should have gone to a powerhouse like Mississippi Valley State like Jerry Rice did.

Or Miami of Ohio like Ben Rothlesberger.

Or Southern Miss like Brett Favre

Or Alcorn State like Steve McNair

Or Texas Southern like Michael Strahan

    Or Buffalo like Khalil Mack

Or Louisiana Tech like Willie Roaf

Or Jackson State like Walter Payton

Yeah well I still don’t think you understand the competition difference. And providing a list of generational players that went to similar (but mostly larger than his) schools over the past 30 years is asinine. Are you saying he is going to be at this level?

NC A&T got the doors blown off by Gardner Webb last year. Hopefully his time spent playing the NFL talent farms like NC Central, Campbell, Gardner Webb, Bryant, Robert Morris and Edward Waters prepared him for blocking the best that came out of the SEC.
