Last year was his first real experience on online, we are talking about a dude who was around 240 like 4 1/2 years ago and just started bulking up big time recently.
He needs a NFL nutrition plan and good coaching which he will get.
When a 6'7 mountain of a man can't start as a freshman or a sophomore, that's a red flag. Usually there's a reason why..
He played at UGA.. You can argue that their coaching and nutrition program is better than most NFL programs.
His technique is a mess. He lunges way too much. Not overly physical. Had a 62 run blocking score vs college competition..His strength is pass blocking, but how often were pass rushers allowed to pin their ears back against that UGA run-heavy offense?? What elite pass rusher did he ever face? His reps vs Kendrick Faulk were underwhelming. It's on YouTube. He had only 113 "true pass blocking" reps, which exclude quick screens and throws under 2 seconds. He was 30th in the nation. But even in those 113 reps, the defender had to be aware of the run much more than they usually would since they were playing UGA. He was hidden by UGA's offense. The more I think about it, I'll be surprised if this kid ever starts a complete 17-game season for us. He has so much to overcome.

You shouldn't hate it, they basically got the best LT in this draft at 19 because he doesn't have experience and needs refinement on technique because of that lack of experience. If he had started another year in college, he goes top 10 bare minimum this draft if not higher.
I was never a fan of his. He was my least favorite projected 1st round OT. I literally just saw him get beat by Keldrick Faulk’s teammate on a clip they just showed on ESPN. The odds of Freeling becoming a legit starting OT is a toss up. I wish we wouldn’t drafted a known commodity like Thienemen, Lemon, KC.

He's 100% a project player and everyone should hope like hell that he doesn't see the field this year. That said I don't mind the pick because Carolina has a good online coach and he shouldn't be pressed to start this season at all.
Exactly, I hate it. “Hoping like hell” that pick #19 doesn’t see the field is never a good feeling.. Of course the best GM Howie Roseman take Lemon right after us. So frustrating

Ugh, I really hope that’s not the case. I haven’t watched the last two combines but I remember Little’s combine workout and his position drills were awful as well. You could tell Little had no movement skills at all and that absolutely translated into his reaching and falling down.
I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt that he had terrible positional drills and it really makes me disappointed in this pick and a small hope that he proves us wrong.
He ran great and jumped high, but he struggled with the drills. I literally thought to myself “I hope we don’t take this player” during the combine. I just don’t understand why Carolina feels the need to draft these raw, boom or bust players in the 1st round with very little college production? I thought Dan Morgan learned his lesson last draft when he took the highly productive WR in TMac. I don’t have time to go into detail, but his technique leaves a lot to be desired if you watch him closely.. Why is a 6’7 OT with elite athleticism the 5th OT taken in a weak draft? That’s a red flag for me. People are blindly praising the pick in here without ever watching the kid play

Which makes the complaints about him being a bad pick because he ain’t start a bit silly. OL is heavy rotation position. He will probably have at least 500 snaps by the end of the season.
That’s false. WR, RB, DL, LB, TE all rotate more than OL. You don’t rotate your lineman unless there’s an injury. OT’s can’t play guard and vise versa. Same with center.
-
He had one of the worst on-field combine drill workouts I’ve ever seen. He was the only lineman who kept falling over himself drill in, drill out. It was bizarre. His tape is pretty solid though. I was hoping for Max Iheanachor if we went OT .Props to Canales with the smoke screen at the NFL Coach meetings though.

Most of the blue chip talent is gone now. Draft is about to get interesting.

Fano going before Mauioga was diabolical

I’m personally loving seeing the notorious asshole Mike Vrabel and his side piece who publicly bashed her husband for years get caught cheating. Funny stuff.

I wouldn’t hate this.
id be fine with Kadyn Procter, KC, maybe Thieneman. I just hate taking a safety who doesn’t make a whole lot of splash plays at 19. Bud Clark from TCU a little later would be more “bang for your buck”

Look at what the Bears have done with Caleb Williams, drafting playmaking WR's and TE's and making it easier for him to operate the offense. Conception is perfect for what the offense needs (speed and someone who can make defenders miss) and as today, April 11th, I think he's the pick @19
I agree. In a perfect world I wouldn’t want to draft another WR, but in this draft it’s fine based on the value of who will be there at #19. All of the top tier guys worth pick #19 at other positions of need will be long gone. Only exception is Dillon Thieneman, but he’s almost a shoe in for the Vikings as the Harrison Smith replacement. Some posters on here want to draft an OT just to check a box without realizing the concerns and risk that comes along with said player. Sounds like XL to me… desperately drafting need… KC is a pretty safe player. Produced all 3 years in college and last year in the SEC vs a lot of top corners in this years draft. He single handily dropped the South Carolina CB Brandon Cisse’s draft stock with how bad he abused him.
Sometimes it’s best to try and hit a double instead of going for the home run. This draft screams “go for the double”. Esp in the first.

Nothing guarantees any of these WR will not be a bust just the same. When in doubt go lineman.
So you’re ok having a rookie LT ride the bench? I’d rather just wait and see how Walker plays and how Icky progresses. Icky would most likely sign a 1 year “prove it” deal in 2027. Drafting a safety or WR in the late first is not the worst decision in this particular draft.

I'm not a stan, but I really like Caleb Lomu. The ONLY knock on him is he needs to improve core strength. An NFL weight room and regimen will improve that in no time. He has the best feet, hands, balance, and recovery of any tackle in the class, imo.
It’s easier said than done. Especially vs bigger, stronger men. I’m sure Utah’s weight training program was no joke.. Some guys just never get to that strength level no matter how hard they hit the weights. If we draft him though, I hope he does develop his strength. I’d just rather wait till next year to draft an OT. With our tough schedule, it might be a possibility to get a blue chip OT talent. Not a late first.

Some of you fail to listen to what the coaches and GM say. They’ve been saying we need more explosion on offense for months now. It’ll be Omar Cooper Jr or KC Concepcion at 19. My money is on KC. Esp after how bad our PR game was last year..

One great thing about Concepcion is that he’s been balling since day 1 as a freshman. That’s always a great sign of an NFL caliber talent. If you’re “that dude” you show it immediately once you step on campus at the college level. So the complete opposite of XL.

What specific LT at 19 are all of the OT Stan’s wanting? Be specific. All have issues and are not guaranteed to improve the OL.. The chances of one of these LT’s who are projected at 19 (Proctor, Lomu) being a bust is much higher than a guy like Lemon/Concepcion imo. Do you really want to draft a kid who has weight struggles along with lateral movement issues? And the other who was a shitty run blocker vs Big 12 competition? Morgan and Co. want to see how Rasheed Walker plays.. They also want to see how Icky’s rehab goes.. There’s a lot of “wait and see” at OT. We don’t have the luxury for our 1st round pick being a backup. We lack top end talent. Morgan and the others have made it known they want to win now. For that reason, I’m almost positive we punt on OT in the first this year and worry about it next year in the first round if need be.
Thieneman would be ideal. He’s a natural “center field” safety with great coverage skills. For the posters who want trade up for Downs…Do you realize he struggles in coverage? He’s more of a box safety. We already have two of those players.. I wouldn’t mind trading in front of the Vikings for the Thieneman though.. Next need would be DT, but I don’t see the value there at 19.. Same with edge. WR at #19 is very realistic. Who would improve this team more than Lemon/Concepcion? I like Tyson, but his injuries scare me. You could argue a slot CB, but the value isn’t great there either. People tend to forget the Seattle Seahawks game.. Yes BY sucked, but no one was getting open.. We could use a quick savvy route runner to beat man coverage. TMAC and Coker are great, but consistently creating separation vs Man Coverage is not their strength.
-
How could he be?
-
Dan Morgan had said previously before we are missing a guy who can take a play 70 yards at any given moment. Concepcion fits that description. Very explosive player. He would also solve the black hole at punt returner. He was one of the best returners in college last year. If Coker or TMac gets hurt, we have no one else at WR. Coker had yet to stay healthy.

That’s a grade I kind of expected tbh. I’m not a huge fan of NS, but he’s not as bad as what the huddle says he is minus the horrible game he had vs the Rams. I’ve always thought he’s often used as a scapegoat. The improved pass rush should hide his deficiencies a little bit better if he’s the game one starter. FS might have to be a position we punt on this year unless Thieneman falls to us at 19. The reality is, you're going to have a few average players in certain spots for a team with as many holes we had before free agency started. You can’t sign everyone.

Hard pass. I’d rather draft Makai Lemon or Jordan Tyson if we actually decided to draft an offensive weapon at #19.

Round 1: The Carolina Panthers select OT Monroe Freeling (Georgia)
in Carolina Panthers

A raw, inexperienced LT with day 2 caliber film is no guarantee he's going to be a franchise LT. We tried going for the home run when we should've gone for the double instead. (Thinemen, KC, Lemon, McDonald, Rodriguez)
