I’m not expecting him to play perfect but that was a dumba$$ mistake.

Dumb ass mistakes happen sometimes. Mahomes literally tossed the ball into a Ravens hands to avoid a sack late in the game last night that may well have cost KC the win. And he’s the best QB in the league.
Sometimes sh*t happens. Darnold played a very good game. Focusing in on one mistake where he tried to make a play isn’t indicative of him as a QB at this point.

I think its a combination of things. They can fill in spurts if necessary but for now it's best not to.

It's really a combination of knowing their assignments WELL, conditioning and gaining trust from the coaches. Until all 3 are met I wouldn't expect those two to start unless bodies are dropping like flies.

If that happens then, well you know how that movie ends.

I still genuinely feel this is rebuilding year #2. I anticipated (and said as much) that I expected this rebuild to take three years after Cam left, Luke left, TD, Bradberry, etc. I expected us to be the worst defense in the league last season. Now we may prove to be top 10 this year potentially.

But if these rookie OL need a year to learn their trade, I’m fine with that. I can be patient. It’s still rebuilding year #2 and while I’m very thankful it appears to be going more quickly than I had anticipated, I’m still going to look at it through this lens.

We are still starting tons of young players. Bringing along a new young QB (not a rookie, but still learning a lot after being grossly mishandled in New York) and still lacking depth in a lot of areas. I was giving it 3 years before I expected us to have any shot at a playoff appearance. Everything extra for now is just gravy

We were set up nicely in the 3rd on the Saints 26 with 10 mins left. 2nd and 10

The Panthers had a screen pass set up perfectly for Marshall. There was nothing but green. Marshall slipped after the catch and didn’t get anything. The following play was the sack then blocked field goal. Had Marshall not slipped our 3rd quarter might have not looked so bad again.

You can tell they’re bringing Sam along slowly and that’s the correct thing to do. Week 1 it felt pretty conservative. Yesterday they opened it up a little more. Darnold is 23 and has shown so far that he can make every throw. Just keep allowing Sam to play within himself and get comfortable and who knows.

Zach Wilson was boo’d off the field after his 4th interception yesterday. Belichick did to him what he’d done to Sam previously. With that said, I think yesterday was another strong indicator just how tough it is to succeed at QB for the Jets. In 3 years it won’t surprise me at all if the Wilson situation plays out just like the Darnold one. These highly touted QB prospects aren’t the problem.

You are spot on. I have been in favor of the Darnold trade since we made it. In part because I didn’t want to give up multiple 1st round picks for a QB (Watson, Stafford or a rookie) and in part because I think with Darnold the talent is clearly there.

He wasn’t good with the Jets but he still had a highlight reel you could look at and say “wow, this dude has a very accurate arm, can make every throw and is surprisingly mobile”

I’ve been saying all along that I thought Darnold would have been the 2nd QB taken in this years draft. And look at how bad Zach Wilson is struggling in NY now. There were a lot of huddlers riding his hype train, some suggesting we trade 3 first rounders to get him.

I think we may have gotten a better QB for a 2nd. There’s a long way to go, but Darnold never had a fair shot in NY and Wilson doesn’t now either. There was a loud mob on here insisting he just wasn’t that good and if he was he would have been more successful with the Jets.

So far he is proving them wrong and I couldn’t be happier about it.

I would love nothing more myself.  I think I'm going to save mine for when they kick Dallas ass all up a down the field.

Dallas will be the first game we get credit for, assuming we win. But our defense is playing amazing right now and their defense will struggle to cover our skill positions you would imagine.

I’m not saying we will win it. It seems likely to be our toughest test yet. But if we beat the Texans this week and then take down Dallas to go 4-0 then suddenly the love for this team will start pouring in and we will become a lot of peoples “dark horse” picks after that game.

The past two years we have stressed athletism and versatility across the board.  We now have players all over the field that can put their hand in the dirt or stand up.   You can game plan but it doesn't mean you'll figure this defense out.

Snow is like the conductor of an orchestra.

Shame Luke wasn't here to experience Snow.  Could you imagine him running this defense.

I was about to post this! Luke was also super versatile. He could do everything you asked him to do. Could cover some WRs. But imagine having all that in the middle with his ability to make reads on the field and direct and make adjustments pre snap. This defense is already looking very good. Really wish Luke could be in the middle of it.

Most of that will wash away with a winning season so hopefully that's on the horizon but it's difficult to blame folks for being hesitant this is a fanbase that has been snakebitten a few times to put it mildly. I'm thrilled we kicked the poo out of the Saints though that's the starting point 👍

I agree. I am just tired of the negativity. And I am not going to to be negative while we are 2-0 lol

I don't see the need to splinter ourselves off into little factions the goal with all of us is and should be the same. But there is always an axe to grind. I'm a little worried about bad Sam showing up against better quarterbacks but he did display intangibles that separate marginal starters from higher end starters. He shook off a few gaffes and went right back at it and his arm talent is impressive. He's going to have to get better under pressure and not take unnecessary sacks when possible though that's a big no no we have to keep under wraps against better teams. The other concern is our reliance on CMC I would definitely like to see us spreading the ball around more in the coming weeks. But I obviously agree with you there is much to like particularly this defense. Hopefully the oline holds up against better defenses that's the biggest question.

I just have a bad taste in my mouth when we are called "cocky" after humiliating the team that is, in my opinion, our most hated division rival and going 2-0 to start the season.

Yeah, its early. We have a very long way to go. But its been damn negative in this place for a year. I am going to celebrate like a fan for the start we are off to, a defense that currently looks vicious and a QB that is showing he may be more capable than what a lot of the huddle haters gave him credit for being.

It's pretty normal to be excited based on what we have done so far. And I am going to be.

I know this is driving the Sam/o-line haters nuts.  All of the Saints D-line starters, started today.  We faced an elite D-line.  But it doesn't count because....blah blah blah.

We aren't saying we're going the SB.  We're saying good job to underappreciated  o-linemen, Sam, Rhule and Fit.

I'm sure we'll take our lumps at some point.  But we needed this game to have a shot at a winning season, and we took it and shoved it down the Saints throats.

Exactly. I am not predicting a SB this year but damn its been nonstop negativity by the "realists" all offseason and now we are 2-0 but not supposed to be excited about it? lol

It's a little early to be settling scores and taking a bow. Remember we had a little win streak going with Kyle Allen which has yet to be topped. Let's see what October brings.

I don’t disagree. That said  the dude is playing very well. Making throws under pressure, putting the ball where his receivers can run after the catch.

What’s triggering me is we just smashed the Saints who just smashed the Packers and those of us enjoying it are being called cocky. I thought it was more “being a fan” and celebrating being 2-0 after embarrassing a division rival, but hey, what do I know?

Man, some of y'all are really cocky after beating possibly the worst team in the league in week one and a Saints team missing half their roster and coaching staff in week two.

I'm happy to be 2-0, but I'm not about to start getting cocky just yet.

We drummed a division rival and held them to the lowest total yards in Peytons era. Sorry we are enjoying it. Hopefully Darnold and the defense will start sucking soon so we can tank for a QB rather than enjoying embarrassing the Saints...

  11. Is Sam Darnold being coddled? /s

I love how all the miserable blokes and tar refused to do anything but trash Rhule and Darnold for months and months whilst suggesting we trade multiple first round picks for Zach Wilson can’t even give credit right now.

Sure, it’s two weeks in. But it’s sure how they are all “meh, I’m not going to get too excited”

We get it. You insisted how the odds of this Darnold trade working were essentially nonexistent. Hold the line. Don’t give in. We passed on Fields. We are almost certainly going to regret it... lol

You guys got lucky Covid and the refs handed you the win. I don't even count this as a loss as much as I see this as another NFL screw job on the Saints.

Too bad for you the NFL counts it as a loss.

Must be tough signing up here to troll only to get absolutely trolled in embarrassing fashion on the field, huh?

I don’t disagree.  Amazing how this offense, since last year was supposed to be the best group and defense was supposed to be really bad.  Huge credit to Phil Snow.

I am starting to grow an absurd fandom for Snow. He hasn't been perfect, but he has done a damn good job. I know 3rd down wasn't pretty last year but with a strong secondary this season, I expect this defense to rank amongst the top 10 in the league. I believe.

    Horn was fantastic today.

The only completion he gave up was the TD and he did everything right. Even had his hand in good position. Just one of those plays. It happens.

    We got a good one.

Yep. There is no defense for a perfectly thrown ball. He did an A+ job today.

That would be insanely fun too watch, if it worked.

I've always thought Cam made sense here if he could be Darnold's backup and we were serious about making a run for a championship. The downside obviously is his personality is so big, he could cause a distraction among the fanbase and media.

We all know his shoulder isn't the same and he wears down over a full season. But if he had to come in and play the last 3 or 4 games and we could be in the playoffs, Cam could lead that run and I have much more faith in his abilities to do so than Walker.

Agreed. And it probably wouldn't work, but seeing both Cam and Jackson in the backfield really would make you wonder what was about to happen. Both can take off and run, one with power and one with speed. Both can through the ball down field. Imagine seeing them line up that way 6-7 times a game. It would really get your imagination going.
