    Right we agree.

But do you also agree that the defense you are facing has to fear your QB's passing ability or it's over before it starts?

Defenses have to respect the offense whether that is running or passing. Qbs in the NFL have to make plays to move the chains. And they have to be able to throw to all parts of the field and to all depths. Young in college threw a number of deep balls but his receivers had the advantage and much like Russell Wilson bhhe could throw it up and expect his guy to come down with the ball. Not so easy in the NFL especially with who we had. Maybe Legette and Sanders will be able to make the contested catch and make Young look good.

Our run game was not as bad last year as some insinuate. That's why this newfound emphasis on the run game is being met with an eye roll from some fans.

Your run game is supposed to setup the pass. But when the defense and particularly the secondary knows your QB isn't willing to or just isn't capable of pressing the issue in certain situations with his arm your run game means nothing. It's all on the tape from 2023. That's the work our new head coach has in store for him. I hope he's got some magic.

Your run game and pass game have to be complementary.  Having running backs who can catch and having wide receivers who are dangerous running the ball make you less predictable which is what you are alluding to.  It has been a while since our offenses could be described as innovative or creative.

  3. I think people have to understand that a good team has to be able to run and pass. In 2023 Washington passed the most at 66%, the least was Baltimore at 50%. KC is at 60%. And others are in between. Where were we last year? We were at 59%.  So you need a running game and a passing game. Which you do more is likely a function of how much success you have doing one or the other. Duh. You can say you are going to be run first but if the defense loads the box you will be throwing the ball. If they set up all day in cover 2 with safeties deep, you likely will be running the ball. You have to do both when they know what you are going to do anyway. Here are the percentages if interested.

I can't watch any analysis that blames play calling, the O-line and our receivers without mentioning that BY can't throw the ball on time and on target with any zip.  BY is a bust, plain and simple.  Anyone watching him play at Alabama should have known this would be the outcome.

The probem.is that Bryce  didn't come from a system that threw on timing and used mostly West Coast concepts. He held the ball and bought time trying for a big play which he often made given lesser college talent. He tried to do the same thing last year and it failed miserably.

Of course he can throw timing routes and hit spots as he is very accurate. But you can't judge him a failure if he played in a new system with a poor coaching staff and had to do things he rarely practiced in college.

  5. Not finding a center in the draft who would be a backup at best is no big deal. There are several free agents out there still available plus all the guys who will get cut between now and the season start.  I am excited we finally have drafted a top 5 tight end and got the best running back in the draft. Much bigger news and potential starters versus a rookie depth center.

I wanted him with our 3rd rounder.  Like this one a lot.

Me too. It has been a long time since we had a TE described as athletic with good hands.  I don't know how to be. I always wanted us to draft a top 5 TE and we never did. We finally have,  so maybe there is a harbinger of positive change and the chance to become relevant again

I guess part of this is also does the coaching staff have more to work with?

Considering the coaching staff had a hand in who we got, Canales got his OL and an upgraded WR and Evero got some of his guys.

I think they might feel like it's a better fit for what they have in mind. I'm sure they would have liked to keep Luvu and he's really the only one I wish we'd been able to keep, but for the most part I think they are getting who they want.

That is Morgan's supposed job. Get Canales and Evero the folks they want while fitting it in the cap.

  8. The potential is there to be better but it is all about fit. It doesn't matter what your individual skills may be if you aren't in a good system that fits your strengths. Every new coach says the goal is to maximize the players potential but at least in our case it hasn't happened in a long time

It was reported by some of the beat reporters he wanted David Carr. Not a small amount either...

Plus it was proven recently that frank, Thomas brown, and campy were not on the same page/thinking. It's a big mess when your OL doesn't know how far the QB is off the ball during the week. Brown wanted to try different plays and frank wanted to stick to their Frankenstein playbook made during the off-season.

It wouldn't surprise me if fittererererer told frank after a few weeks "guess what, we are trading for the #1 pick" before Frank agreed with it. FItterererer had David tepper putting massive amount of pressure to find a "franchise" QB and after failing to land Watson, stafford and the darnold fumble.......the only remaining way was to trade into the top 1-3. That maybe the biggest fail of them all.....

Mentioned something similar. Seems the all-star cast didn't agree on much and it lead to infighting and coaches going behind each others backs. Total dysfunction on the offensive side.

  10. Hard to know how things will turn out but I do think we will be better and it isn't about just the players. Reich thought bringing in guys from different backgrounds and thoughts would lead to them all working together and complementing each other. Instead it lead to cliques and infighting and tattling to Tepper which lead to a disaster and coaches being fired midseason.

Canales has brought in his people who he knows and trusts. They should meld much better on offense which was the issue. He also knows to leave Evero alone and stick to the offense.

  11. Truth is you need to compete each year to the best of your ability if you don't want to get even worse as all your players jump ship. So you have to have a mix of vets and young guys to learn from the Vets. So do you need good vets on 1 or 2 year deals to be competitive and show the young guys the ropes? Absolutely. Andy Dalton was brought in specifically to mentor Young not be a long term solution. I would think Clowney would be as well. Bring in young guys like Young or draft picks for the long haul. I heard Clowney had some dog in him. I know he was bit by a dog early in his career. Maybe they can both resurrect their careers here. If anyone can motivate them it is Evero.

  12. No clue how things will go this year but like usual I am optimistic. Only now I won't be making any bets on us like I did in the past. I am fine with the changes because let's be serious, how much of a 2-15 team do you want to hold on to.

Did you watch our guard play last year? Marginally better and not better? What are you smoking?

Which week? It was a turnstile every week with different bodies in and out with various injuries. I hope these new guys can stay healthy all year. That would be a big upgrade in itself.

Luvu hasn’t made much in his career. He’s getting older. Don’t blame him for getting the biggest deal he could.

True but he was going to paid either way. Just not sure it was all about the money, maybe it was.

LOL If deals reflect actual quality that would mean something then Thomas wouldn't have been such a waste of a roster space for years. The Panthers paid Darnold 19 million for a season that they traded for Baker. Nice cope, keep trying. Even your insults are lame and off target.

Don't you have someone else to play with that can inflate your ego? Yet you keep coming back with nothing to me. You have no substance but thanks for the playtime kiddo.

So when you have nothing of value to add you go for the personal attacks. How very immature and huddle like. Usually my turn to exit when the conversation devolves to this level.

  16. Morgan's job is to get the coaches their guys. I wonder how Evero felt about Luvu and whether he had any say in the matter. Or did Luvu not like our system or was it all the money?

Comparing Baker, who has accomplished so much more in his career, even if he sucked for us, to Thomas is laughable. Thomas is the equivalent of Matt Corral, not Mayfield. I don’t get these fans who disappear in season the past 6 years as we’ve sucked balls only to reappear every offseason defending every move the team makes.

It’s Ian freaking Thomas. He sucks. All we see of him is lowlights. He’s supposedly a great blocker and yet there are always videos of when he gets blown up by a LB or when he gets taken down easily by a smaller DB. I certainly don’t recall the last team we talked about him doing something good, but by all means we should keep paying him new money and not drafting TEs.

You clearly don't know how to read. I didn't compare them as players I compared them flaming out in past systems  and then said Baker found a good fit and had a career year under Canales. If Canales is able to do for Young what he did for Baker then guys like Thomas could also be productive.  Up until last season Baker did not have a great career and he was thought washed up.   None of what you said is even  tangentially related to what I said.
