Lol Tampa went to the playoffs because the NFCS was trash. If there was one good team last year Tampa wouldn't have made it. If that's your standard it's no wonder why you always pick such sad hills to make a fool of yourself.

And Baker is a jag and Thomas is basically PS level player that always stays here so grest comp lol

Got a pretty big deal for a JAG. Didn't say he was great. I said he sucked in this system and was considered washed up. He went to Tampa is a better system and had a career year.  It proves just because you struggle somewhere you can go to a better system and thrive. Reading comprehension isn't your strong suite I see.

So did Rhule and Reich lol. Hirst was never even there anyways. Again thanks Morgan.

There is no solid way of justifying keeping a known dud in a player.

You mean like Tampa keeping Baker and Canales taking them to the playoffs with him after other teams dumped him. Because players can't thrive under one system and suck under another. How long have you been watching football?

Hahahaha. See last year. It's not like he was just hired here. Those garbage pros last year where on hia watch which he did with his friend and boss. If you want to live in fantasy land by all means have fun.

And you were there when the decision was made so you know who was for or against it. Seems you are the one making things up. I guess he was in on the Hurst and Bozeman decisions so why is he canning them.

It's not saving money keeping a player below backup level.

Obviously Canales thinks differently. Plus with Hurst gone  we have to find a number 1 tight end already so it was a low risk low reward move. I am sure we will bring in a draft pick and maybe a vet on the cheap.

He has no clue. What the heck does this mean?

If you release him you lose more money and have to replace him and pay his replacement. I don't think you understand the finances here. We saved money and kept him without pushing anything down the road from what I have read.

This to me says he doesn’t get it. People don't seem to get the simplest thing that we save his salary in cap space and would have saved more last year. They don’t see restructuring bonuses and act like it doesn’t matter to keep kicking the can. A day round rookie TE would be better and cheaper.

The saving money on a poo player because his salary is less than the dead cap is hilarious. It’s like the “new” money versus already sunk money doesn’t get through. Somehow they think paying for Thomas to not be on the team in 2025/2026 (I’m sure we’ll use void years, otherwise it’s all 2024 cap hit in his last year of his contract) is a good thing because we save cap space in 2024. That’s how we’ve had to waste money on poo FAs the past few years because we couldn’t afford the really good players.

Last year is irrelevant. It is 2024. Why do you save money keeping him? His dead cap hit is right at 3.8 million. His cap hit now appears to be right at 4.5. But to replace him at the rookie minimum it is 750,000 so replacing him with someone with any vet experience will cost as much or more than replacing him.

So no it wasn't wrong to keep him if Canales has use for him in his offense.

He isn't worth keeping so any cap cleared by dumping him was the win. URFAs would have more upside than Thomas at this point.

That isnt true at all. If his remaining dead cap is almost 4 million and his cap hit has been reduced to a little over 4 million he costs very little to retain and S long as he is gone after this year Morgan did a good job  getting something for very little.

You save money keeping him not releasing him and he is gone after this year so no you are wrong my friend.

Morgan looks set for a real dud of an offseason. JFC how is this guy still around. He isn't even a decent backup.

It wasn't that we wanted to keep him. Releasing him cost more than keeping him and getting a salary reduction.  A June 1st designation kicks dead cap down the road. This way we pay less than releasing him and get his blocking. He is worth a backup roster spot

Keeping and continuing to pay Thomas isn’t ever going to be a single.

Don’t have to read the terms. His dead cap cannot be reduced just moved out and increased. Not sure why it’s hard to understand.

Dead cap comes from bonuses already paid that spread that money over the years of the deal. Reducing his salary does nothing to dead cap already paid out in his signing bonus or past restructuring bonuses. In 2023 we restructured Thomas and his salary was cut but he also got $1.6M in a restructuring bonus that was spread over 2023 and 2024. It’s likely that the same thing is happening here. Salary cut but a restructuring bonus to push some of that bonus money into future years.

It’s the last year of his deal so hopefully we just reduced salary but that $1.75M (possibly more) is still new money. We could save that $1.75M in salary by releasing him like we could have before. There’s no magic here.

Dead cap is a combination of all monies that will become due and payable if you trade or release him. In this case 6 million. It is not all money restructured in the past but what is left. Each year the dead cap money changes as the guaranteed money on which the dead cap is calculated gets used up or is increased if you guarantee more money. Since this is the last year of his contract his restructure is reducing his base salary to lower his overall cap hit which consists of all guaranteed money not yet accounted for (signing bonuses, roster bonuses) and his base salary. You can't push money down the road unless you extend him which is not what I have heard.  If you release him then the whole 6 million cap hit becomes due unless you designate it a post June 1 cut which kick dead cap down the road which you bitched about. Right now his cap hit has been reduced by his salary reduction. It is pretty simple to see.

  11. 5 minutes ago, WhoKnows said:

It’s not a wash. Dead cap is dead cap. It’s pro-rated bonuses that already happened but haven’t hit the cap. The salary is “new money”, which means we probably spread the dead cap into 2025. So instead of just eating the dead cap, we will end up using another $2M (probably more, there has to be another restructure bonus to spread the cap). Last time we did this, Ian got his $2.4M that “he lost/we saved” in a restructure bonus. He didn’t really lose anything last time, we just pushed more into 2023/2024. Now we are likely pushing to void years in 2025+.

Have you seen the terms. Until then why keep going with speculation. With a new GM and new cap manager, bringing up the past may not portend the furure. I read a pay cut but no mention yet of any signing bonus to kick money down the road. And this is all part of tagging Burns and still having cap room to acquire free agents. Plenty of time to bitch when the facts unfold.

My position in life is this---a lack of hope is more tied to a lack of confidence than an awareness of reality.

    Letting that sink in.

    There.

For some their hope is tied to their confidence but for me it is exactly the opposite. Hope isn't based in confidence or reality, hope is my belief that somehow things are going to get better even if it doesn't seem like that based on the past. If you are confident you don't need hope because you believe things are going well. When they aren't going well being optimistic  and having hope becomes a choice even if I am not confident it will work out. Do I have confidence  Morgan can fix this? Way to early to know but I am very hopeful it will be much improved over last year. It is the difference between circumstances dictating your emotions and attitudes versus preserving your sense of calm and control through your circumstances whether they are positive or negative.

Like mike kaye just talked about on Locked on.  I dont understand pushing the money down the road, just suck it up this year with the cap and get out from under these shitty deals.   Pushing down the road just hinders us when we may need it.

You have to try and field a competitive team or it kills the desire of everyone on the team that is trying to win. You have to get cap room to bring in free agents and sign your draft picks. Should we do a ton of restructuring? Depends for who and how much. Should we restructure Moton somewhat. Yeah and add on a few years and maybe a voidable year to lower the cap since we plan to keep him. Will that hurt us down the road? Not unless Moton falls apart or has a career ending injury. The old one size fits all approach never works. You have to evaluate every situation individually and intelligently.0

  14. I am fine with whatever the win total. If it is 5 or 6 that is twice this year's total and it means Bryce played much better. Let's keep pounding.  If it is only 2 then we have a really high draft pick and we swing again for the right QB draft pick to be our next Cam Newton. Consolation for the suffering. I won't venture we would win more than 6 games so there you go. Good news no matter what.

  15. I think that 33 goes to the offense. Don't know if tight end or WR but one or the other. We will keep Burns and hopefully find a free agent who is ready to flourish but weren't on the right defense. I think linebacker is also a need as well as corner. Corners might be easier to find since we play so much zone they seem more plentiful that shut down corners who play man.

    But Arrowhead has grass.

It wasn't about grass it was that the field doesn't matter nor does the facilities or how players are treated if you are winning and you have the right players. Players want to win and play with other winners. Things like grass or turf are issues in Charlotte because we lose and suck and we bitch about everything. Apparently I didn't explain it well.

  17. The salary cap can be easily manipulated and it makes sense we do that to get cap room. Otherwise Burns has leverage in negotiating knowing we need his cap space which will be significant. Expect Moton to be restructured  and suddenly we have cap space for what we want. If we show him we can operate without his space then signing him is more likely.  Sure we might kick the can a little bit down the road out of necessity,  but we don't need to tank this year.

    She did.

It's just embarrassing that the proudest thing about their ownership of a football team has absolutely nothing to do with football and led to the shitty field that the players are constantly bitching about. I mean, that pretty much sums it up right there.

The minute I heard it, my first thought was that getting a grass stadium was a pipedream now if she is crowing about all the events which made me think they are about the money. They don't care about the players. Then again apparently KC routinely gets rated poorly on facilities and player engagement but keep winning.  Apparently if you get the right players and coach and win a bunch, other factors like grass or turf tale a big backseat.

Funny thing is if they dump all resources into making the offense better and Bryce still sucks, Tepper still looks like an idiot and Canales will get canned for not being the QB whisperer.

I doubt that would be enough to dump Canales. Tepper is going to have to show patience or his reputation will get even worse and nobody in their right mind would come here next. And if we suck again we get that top 10 draft pick to let Morgan and Canales their shot at picking a QB in the draft. But then the offense would be better able to support the next guy instead of what happened with Young.
