How would anyone feel about giving up draft picks for a coach and then said coach getting a 5 year deal worth oh say 90m. 🤔

Payton is going to get at least 20 million per year, so more likely 5yr, 100M.

Would love nothing more than to see news tomorrow that Johnson is the guy. Not sure if it can happen that quickly but man, I’m ready to get our guy and get running.

I'm fairly certain we still need another Rooney interview before we can officially hire anyone.

Is the Tepper not easy to work with a real thing or something made up on these boards? It seems to me like he gives his football people plenty of room to work.

One of the reporters attributed it to a league source in one of the articles breaking down the end of Rhule's tender. I don't recall which one. It was not something "made up on these boards."

He was also projected to go 1-2 in 2010 with Bradford.

      Bradford got 6yrs/78M in 2010.

     Locker got 4 yr/12M in 2011

Add in players like Matt Barkley and Ryan Mallet who went from top 5 to 3-4th rounders and coming back when you’re already as high as you will get is ignorant.

2011 is when the rookie pay scale went in. That's part of the reason for the discrepancy.

Locker's agent probably should have known that the rookie pay scale was gaining momentum and advised Locker to go in 2010.

Big thing for me is the locker room and Wilks won it, if you go with a new coach.. he's going to have to be able to go in and win the players over, otherwise.. gonna have major turnover first 2 seasons, players wanting out and bad seasons.

Especially so if it's Payton over Wilks, I'd expect a ton of turnover.

Like restart the rebuild and any Wilks players will have sour taste in their mouth and tank team chemistry type of bad from the sounds of it.

Between cuts, FA, and the draft, the locker room next year will be different. A new head coach will inevitably bring in some of "his guys." It happens with every team that hires a new head coach.

I can't imagine they would fire Staley to hire a 1-2 year OC.

It wouldn't be. They would fire him if they had a backroom deal to know they could get Payton. Chargers OC Joe Lombardi came from Payton's staff in New Orleans. I'm sure they still talk (off the record.)
