In fairness, up until this season it's been a valid question as to whether DB was going to be an elite player.  His first two years were terrible.  Last season we started to see glimpses of the player he could be.  It wasn't until this year that we all saw DB become what everyone wanted him to be from the start.

It's a funny thing.  His effect on the passing game hasn't really changed.  His pressure numbers, QB hits, sacks . . . it's not any different than it was his first season.  He takes up two blockers.  That's his job.  It's good that as a fan base we've come to understand the value of a DT who can do that.  We clearly missed the mark back when we made the Star / KK decision.

    Yay!

    My entertainment continues!

  2. As an AU fan I hated that MF’er for his first 3 or 4 years at Bama.

But, eventually, I came to terms with it.  Hating Saban was akin to hating The Terminator for wanting to kill Sarah Conner.

fuger was a college football cyborg.

So no hate.  Fugging glad he’s gone.  Any replacement is a significant step down. This pleases me.

P.S. He’s not going back to the NFL and that would be a bad idea anyway.  Dude is gonna make serious retirement bank as a college football studio commentator.

Very true, and I was one of the few that defended him (especially when we were running a 4-3 defense and he came out of a 3-4 defense at Auburn). Dude is a freaking stud now.

Bryce, on the other hand, is hard to defend when he has shown no promise over the entire season...

Just FYI brother, the base defense used by Kevin Steele at Auburn during Brown’s years was the 4-3.

Now Steele lined Brown up at various positions on that defensive front at different times according to the situation and play-call, but the vast majority of snaps were at 3-tech.

And all three of those trophies are brought to you courtesy of one of the greatest coaches and talent evaluators of the modern football era - Jimmy Johnson.  At the point those were won, Jones was just riding JJ's coattails to glory.

Switzer took Johnson's team and got them to one more championship, but the roster was deteriorating.  It still hasn't recovered.

The only thing separating Jones and Tepper are 33 years of experience.

You obviously don’t remember why Jimmy Johnson left Dallas:

Because Jerry Jones was meddling and controlling draft evaluation and picks and Johnson wanted 100% control.

So the historical FACTS surrounding Johnson’s departure from Dallas belie your stated opinion above.  Jerry Jones (right or wrong) was INTIMATELY involved in the draft evaluation and picking process in those years and Jimmy Johnson resented it thus causing their inevitable divorce.

Didn't he win those with the coach and lots of players he inherited with the purchase in 1989 and then kicked him out and then started the SB drought after those 3 wins?

Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys in early 1989.  The 1988 Cowboys had an outdated Tom Landry as HC, Steve Peleur as QB, the RB was a post-USFL Herschel Walker, and the defense was led by aging veterans with one foot out of the NFL door, Too Tall Jones, Randy White, Everson Walls.

To the 1988 teams credit, they *did* have an excellent rookie WR: Michael Irvin.

Jones fired Landry and hired Jimmy Johnson.  They drafted Troy Aikman in 1989 and Emmit Smith in 1990.  Won the 1993 and 1994 Super Bowls.  After that Johnson wanted more control over personnel and Jones wouldn't give it to him, they had a war of words in the press and eventually they went their separate ways mutually.  Johnson then went on to the Miami Dolphins for four years where he was given total personnel control which resulted in an overall record of 36-28 in four seasons, never winning the AFC (or even the AFC East for that matter), and resigning from the Dolphins position after 4 years.

After Jimmy Johnson, Jones hired Barry Switzer as HC, winning the 1995 Super Bowl, and remaining the head coach for four seasons.

So I would say the only accurate thing you said in your statement was "then started the SB drought after those 3 wins" which is true.

  6. Nipple Shorts was mah man.  Not only does he have a very good grade in your system, but he also had a good eye for undrafted free agents (Andrew Norwell being the best example) which I believe is not factored in your system.

One of the primary reasons Gettleman has a bad reputation with many Panther fans is because #89 chose to make him Public Enemy #1 and #89’s mindless drones walked behind him in lock-step, assaulting Gettleman’s reputation from his blind-side so to speak.

btw, cam routinely threw for less than 200 yards and had multiple interception games long before his injuries.

Cam had a head coach and OC for most of his career in Carolina who believed that the forward pass was a dangerous innovation and were fully convinced that the 2010's NFL was the same as the 1950's NFL.

Cam had multiple passing games under 200 yards.

    SHOCKING.

We never said he was a bad player.

YOU may have never said he was a bad player. But your “we” description? INCREDIBLY inaccurate.

If you don’t think so just use the search function for “Derrick Brown bust”.
