Hahahaha. Yeah buddy keep telling yourself that. Totally were a playoff team last year

Somehow we went from potential playoff team that ran for over 300 yards in an NFL game, and a collapse by Ickey away from the playoffs, to 1-16. The loss of Darnold and Wilks hurt more than anyone in this forum will ever recognize, aside from me.

Yes but this was in the face of a supposed rejuvenation of Denver under Payton. That has not been the case at all. If anything, they are a marginally better shitshow than they were under the previous guy. I wouldn't put a lot into their improvement simply because the best part of that franchise came to us.

New England will almost certainly be terrible. That franchise isn't more more talent stocked(or rather bereft) than ours. It's been mismanaged for about as many years. If they have a good rookie QB, that COULD turn fortunes quickly but it could just as easilu torpedo his career as he is put in a bad scenario and doesn't develop at all.

I am not saying we will or won't be "better" but I don't think the amount of "better" that any of these teams are going to be is anything other than the difference between sinking and floating turds.

Denver improved by three or four wins year over year did they not? In the NFL, a four win improvement is quite large from year to year. Now you have Payton with a QB he picked that is, to me, very much like Drew Brees.

New Englands offense has almost always been mismanaged. But between Brady, Gronk, a few good to great offensive linemen, a Hall of Fame coach and great defense, they made it work.

That is likely to be the same formula they use now. Again, I’m not going to discount either and considering the odds, I’d be far more likely to put money on them than on us. We have an easier road in our division, but I doubt that matters much.

Theres 20. That's just the first rounders. Open that up to the 2nd,3rd and 4th rounds the list gets tremendously larger.

Hopefully Bryce turns it around in a big way this year but I'm not expecting much. I'd imagine he ends up going down as another name on this list.

    Here's to hoping I'm wrong.

Trey Lance? Dude didn’t even play and when he did play he got hurt. He was also pretty good the games he played. Kenny Pickett? Playoffs, No? Mac Jones had 20+ touchdowns passes and went to the playoffs. EJ Manuel wasn’t great but he looked better beating the Panthers than Bryce did at any point last year.

He was on Josh Rosen’s level, if not worse. Maybe even Johnny Manziel and Manziel didn’t study or do much of anything. He also hardly played his rookie year.

Personally I think Maye will be the best of the bunch for a lot of reasons.  I just hope they sit him for a while and let him learn and develop.  I dont think there is ever a downside for a qb to sit and learn

I think Maye will end up being the best and I think Nix will come in and play like a Veteran this year. He is better than Mac Jones and he's definitely better than Kenny Picket. What Nix did at Oregon translates well to the modern NFL and in particular, it translates to Payton.

I am here for the New England and Denver dumpster fires. Both franchises are richly deserving of it.

Denver went 8-9 last year with their poo show. If they aren't a poo show this year, odds are they improve. I wouldn't write off Denver due to Payton and I wouldn't write off New England considering their defense is still really good and now they have a likely NFL Rookie of the Year Candidate at QB.

To even mention them in the same breath as the Panthers is a joke.

    Average Backup Or Special-Teamer

    Strengths

    Explosive athlete.

Rangy with good chase-down gallop to the sideline.

Burst and change of direction make him a toolsy rusher.

Hands are very sticky when he gets his chances to take the ball away.

Lateral agility to expand his short-area tackle success.

    Weaknesses

Play recognition and football instincts are lacking.

Frequently fooled by misdirection in both run and pass games.

Lacks patience and leverage in his scrape, allowing cutback lanes to runners.

Pulled out of position by bait routes in his spot drops.

Pass rush could use more elusiveness when diving into A- or B-gaps.

To me, his weaknesses sound like it's related to how the defensive line plays. If he doesn't trust the line to be where they are supposed to be, he may feel the need to jump on misdirection, he may have to commit more than he wants to one play type or another, and he was likely always getting head on blocks in A Gap and B Gap blitzing, rather than just getting chipped because his line couldn't hold their spot.

You can't coach his strengths. You can coach his weaknesses and you can help him by having a dominant middle.

We looked like poo? That's revisionist history my friend.

I am curious to see who the bigger bust will be between Richardson and Young. Could be a very close race.

And what makes you believe Richardson is or will be a bust? Dude was iffy throwing the ball his rookie year but so was Josh Allen. You want to scrap him after an injury shortened season with Shane Steichen as his head coach, go ahead.

odds are not in your favor there.

Thicker kicker going to take his job. Apparently he posted a video showing he is at a beach somewhere. He's not good enough to be holding out and his former special teams coach is no longer here

89% on his career with 33 of 35 in 2022? That isn’t good?

It would be nice to see #9 prove people like this laughably wrong.

That's why many Panthers fans myself included were wanting to see how much time he'd dedicated to his craft following the conclusion of the season but then he showed up and let everyone know he pretty much crawled under a rock. Somehow the Panthers social team thought this was rather amusing after what we'd sacrificed for the rights to draft him. Baffling lack of awareness all around.

It's interesting that we go from Levis being least desirable of the class and a complete and total meathead that would alienate himself from his teammates to being talked up as possibly emerging as one of the better young QB's entering the 2024 season.

Man what a whirlwind the last 12 months have been for the people who fully bought the hype machine in the lead up to the 2023 NFL draft and did victory laps like they had their very own sports almanac from BTTF.

Life comes at you fast folks.

My order for the draft was this:

    1. Stroud

    2. Levis

    3. Richardson

    4. DTR

    5. Bryce

The top three are three rounds better than DTR or Bryce. Just because someone else would’ve taken Bryce if we hadn’t doesn’t make them right either.

I’ve also seen people comparing Bryce and Caleb Williams but Williams has something Bryce doesn’t, and that is speed, belief, swagger, and arm strength. I think Williams, Daniels, Maye, and Nix all have the chance to be better than everyone from 2023, including Stroud. Maybe not this year, but in their career.

Now 2025 is a QB Desert unless you want someone like Cam Ward or Carson Beck, neither of which are ideal.

I know I’d draft Joey Aguilar later in the draft. Dude has an NFL arm and RG3 confirmed as much after watching him throw in the monsoon that was the Cure Bowl.

I compared their demeanors as QBs.  Eli didn’t check the traditional box you look for there at the NFL.   Where the QB is basically slotted in as the default leader of the team.   Eli wasn’t really that guy.  100% wasn’t early on in his career.

Eli got lucky in the postseason.  That’s sports. But he was a .500 NFL QB with the Manning legacy aiding him.   Hell, Cam and Jake had better win %s than Eli.

You don't luck into two Super Bowls bud.

Bryce Young is Eli Manning-ish IMO.  I mean, it's not that you can't be successful with a QB wired like that.  But Bryce Young doesn't check so many of the textbook boxes you look for.

Eli didn't check that box either.  Problem is Bryce just doesn't check so many of them.  They add up at this level.

You're comparing Bryce Young to 2x Super Bowl Champion Eli Manning?

Simms is so wishy washy at times it's difficult to listen or take him seriously. But unfortunately he is correct on most of what he's saying about Bryce.

Also putting him below Darnold is brutal. At the same time. I just can't argue with it. Darnold at least has the phsyical ability to put the ball wherever he wants it. You don't draft a QB #1 overall if he doesn't have the kind of arm talent that wows you on the tape.

Darnold put it together here when Wilks took over. The Saints game was awful but somehow it was awful for both teams. Neither wanted to win.

Had Ickey not completely forgot how to play football in the 4th quarter against the Bucs, Darnold takes the Panthers to the playoffs.

I would trade Bryce for Darnold right now. Darnold with Canales and a heavy play action, ground and pound style offense would be good.

Strengths of his that had a 100% chance at carrying over to his pro game.

Was there literally anything Bryce did well in college that had a 100% chance at carrying over?

The UGA game from Stroud is all anyone should've needed to see.

Bryce had big moments but the biggest thing I noticed, and pointed out, was that he was always scrambling around despite having good protection. This was seen as a positive from evaluators but I saw it as a negative. He couldn't make plays, or throws, on time and from the pocket. People saw the scrambling and compared him to a mini-Patrick Mahomes because that works in college. It does not work in the NFL.

    I ended up being right.

CJ looks like he's golfing out there, nice form and footwork

That's also how Sean Payton described Bo Nix during their Rookie Camp. He said he looked like a golfer in that he just makes everything look effortless and that he's essentially perfected his fundamentals to the point that they are the exact same every time.

Bo Nix, in my opinion, will end up being the "steal" of the draft and everyone will wonder how he dropped to 12. Watching him this past year, it was like watching a coach out on the field just picking defenses apart. He may not have the physical characteristics of a Williams or Daniels but I believe his experience and mental accuity gives him a shot to be better.

I still think that Drake Maye has the highest ceiling of them all though. I said this after Week 2 of 2022 when they played in Boone and he didn't have a single off target throw despite being under duress much of the game. Dude was throwing darts.

BY didn't get Reich fired. Reich got himself fired by being way in over his head and being the head coach of a coaching staff who did nothing to help him out.

Of course they were all sold on the idea that BY was pro ready out of the gate by Fitt so they felt he didn't need to be developed (like every rookie should be).

They had no clear vision. And no solid plan in place, nothing worked, and the coaching staff was too busy playing hunger games to be coaching so they panicked and did the same thing over and over.

It was a complete clusterfug that we had a rookie QB who needed help thrown into the middle of.

Or that one play is all that Bryce was capable of? Bryce is an issue.

To say that Frank fuging Reich, a longtime NFL back-up and coach, would not see a need to “develop” a Rookie QB is hilarious and wrong.

now I wanted Steve Wilks to be retained, but this comment is pure garbage.

Jack Plummer was surprisingly underrated in this draft. He didn’t exactly have the best team before he got to Louisville and given one more year at Louisville I feel he would’ve been drafted.

    well it's something...just hoping Brooks is 100%

The Panthers signed all seven of their draft picks before the start of this weekend’s rookie minicamp. First practice is on Friday morning.

How would Brooks be 100% after a November ACL tear? I’d be fine if he didn’t play until November.

Brock Purdy #2 is just hilarious.

Literally no one else in that top 10 would trade their guy for Brock Purdy

I mean, the commentary surrounding Purdy is very similar to the commentary surrounding Brady his first few years.

All the guy has done is win and he’s only going to get better as time goes on. He may not fit your idea of “Game Breaker” but the results speak for themselves. You’re going to counter with “but Kyle Shanahan” and that plays a role, as does any coach-QB combo. Where would Mahomes be without Andy Reid? Certainly not three super bowls deep.
