  1. At least part of the help is already here, regardless of whether people like it or not. I would bet that we bring in more, if not by next week, before September is out. But, even if we don't, Kevin Norwood is going to be here for awhile. In his impromptu interview on Tuesday, here is what Gman said: I think that he is going to be true to his word, and unlike our untrained eyes, he is going to see something of worth at the bottom of the barrel. He seems to think that he already has.
  2. Gettleman, Rivera and Proehl seem excited about Norwood. Plus, Proehl is teaching him all of the positions. This process is not going to happen over a few days. Norwood is a lock to make the team.
  3. No need to be almost certain, be certain. Gettleman is not in the business of throwing draft picks down the drain. He basically treats all of them like money, and has said as much. In so many words, that is.
  4. Well, that's what we were discussing, not whether or not we lost our top two receivers. Your response should have been to him, not me. The thing is, after all the discussion in this thread, we still need help at receiver.
  5. Matters of perspective are like looking at a diamond while changing angles in the sunlight. Sometimes you have to keep an open mind about which angle provides the best view...or at least realize that your view is not the only view, and not the only one that has a good angle behind it.
  6. Arguing about whether or not any team in the NFL would be hurting if they lost both their top two receivers is really immaterial. The whole purpose of acquiring depth is to provide insurance in case something unforeseen happens. Regardless if you value upside or not, upside is a major part of the equation of depth. if you can't understand that, then I don't know what else to tell you.
  7. Don't you dare suggest any more names in this thread, people will shoot them down because they don't believe that they have any value and are a bunch of scrubs. Lord knows that it is just impossible and illogical that they would be a better fit for the Panthers and possibly---if not likely---upgrade our group.
  8. That receiving corps is no where near as "shitty" as our 2014 corps. It has waaaaaaay mor upside. No one is saying there are a "ton" of teams that are stacked, just several of them (some being real competitors) that would at least be able to have a semblance of a passing game based on their upside alone. After KB and Funchess, there is no real upside. Some analysts even believe our WR is suspect even with a healthy Funchess. Why argue against upgrading a "shitty" corps? I will never know. Edit: let me put it this way, better to be in that number of teams, however big it is, than not.
  9. Well...right now we have Devin Funchess and Jerrislow Cotchery (both, on ice), Corey Brown, Brenton Bersin, Kevin Norwoord (the other Brown, Mucas, Byrd and Presley). That's an NFL starting caliber wide receiving corps right there! Did I miss anyone?
  10. I have read every comment thus far, and one thing that I believe that many (not all) people are failing to realize is the degree to which our receiving corps is constituted with JAGs. Sure it's highly unlikely that we're going to find a WR1 in the cuts post preseason in 2015. I am not going to use the word "myth" because anything is possible even if it is highly unlikely. That aside, for something to be a "myth" it has to be believed, and I don't think that anyone believes that we are going to find a WR1 in the group, nor have I seen anyone say anything to this effect. What I do believe, obviously contrary to others, is that there will more than likely be receivers cut who will improve our receiving corps, and I certainly believe that there are receivers that are WR3s and possibly WR4s on other teams that would immediately be better than anyone we can offer up at the time. Now whether or not we should or would trade for a higher quality of receiver is a different story.
  11. I absolutely get what you are saying about Rivera. One thing to keep in mind though is that he had a young team last year at key positions who were not ready to consistently contribute until later in the season. Some of it was due to injury, and some of it was due to lack of experience or being ready on each player's part. Both he and Dave Gettleman mentioned as much immediately after the season. I don't think this can be overstated. Rivera can only work with what Dave Gettleman gives him, and if that is an abnormally high percentage of inexperienced rookies or vets that are better suited in back-up roles, then the whole process of getting them "ready" may take longer than we'd like. Moreover, there is an argument that the whole culture of the organization is slow to make changes or adjustments in a timely manner from Jerry Richardson, to Gettleman, to Rivera and Mike Shula right on down. Perhaps it's just a matter of perception. The truth probably lies somewhere between reality and perception. As such, I can't give Rivera all the blame for the state of the wide receiving corps. Some of it is above his pay grade. But, he does get the lion's share of the blame for his coaching decisions while in practice, and basically all of it on the sidelines. People are so quick to say that preseason is about evaluation. The games are central to this process in my mind. And you can't just keep giving some opportunity after opportunity when things are going south to the detriment of others during such an important part of the evaluation. You have to think outside of the box sometimes. On the sidelines is where this is arguably most important. Overall I like the direction of the team, but all parties involved are going to have to resolve this problem of lack of depth at the wide receiver position with more than a few dollars and lip service.
  12. Pie for "whiplash", because that's what it's really like. Once someone shows you who they are, you better believe them...lest you get hoodwinked. Hype, rhetoric and grandstanding about competition and the best 53 making the roster will always be much ado about nothing. In the end, the more things change, the more things they stay the same.
  13. Well, knowing Gman and Rivera, you are probably spot on. They are conservative to a fault in just about everything they do. We will likely get similar results as the last couple of years provided that injuries don't sabotage the season.
  14. What is this thing about the Panthers and Patsies not liking each other? I never got that feeling, though I would love it if Gettleman publicly showed some disdain for Belichick.
  15. That meant nothing. Vanilla packages and schemes were most likely abound. Most teams actually plan for the third preseason game. Historically games one, two and four are primarily used for evaluation purposes. The third game is where they actually game-plan and scheme for a specific opponent with our starters in mind. What Jeremy is telling you is that you'll be watching as close to the real thing into the third quarter. Scrutinize things from that perspective.
  16. I can get with it, though I'd like to see another more established WR. I don't see the need for Teddy Williams.
  17. Mmm, maybe. We can cheat a little bit with Cam (Artis-Payne) and try WCW.
  18. That's some first class work right there, @Jeremy Igo. Thank you. My favorite from a visual standpoint may have been the first one, but the Wegher spike may be as well. The best line that went along with the perfect capturing of the raw, honest emotion was probably the Boykin pic You're right: Gotta get the big man looking like an RB after the interception. Between the picture and the moment, it is an awesome pick, and one not seen everyday. Thanks, again.
  19. Well, after tonight, perhaps the legend of Fozzy Brown will die.
