Figured they were worried about a leapfrog taking their guy.

Regardless of how you feel about Legette, the move up wasn’t bad.  If that’s your guy, they did the right thing to get him.

so obviously there’s the 5th year option point as well, I mean the whole league just watched aj brown get $100 million dollars

but it goes beyond that. They’re building a team and they’re all in on this build. Ideally, Bryce, Leggette, and #39 (and others from this class) all pan out as great players that need second contracts here

if the panthers hadn’t moved up then all three of those players would need big contracts in the same offseason

moving up one spot, you have contract control on Leggette for an additional season and ease that burden down the road

How often do these extremely raw route runners coming out of college work out?

Leggette did something Marshall and Mingo-and McConkey-never did-and produced at a high level, especially as a true number one.

the comparison isn’t really that good. That said, if you still wanna make it, the counter point is obvious: as others have pointed out, there are guys working out. Teams taking great prospects who need refinement, developing them, and reaping the massive dividends that comes from that over taking a polished but lesser physical talent.

were the only team it hasn’t worked out for and that can’t continue, black cat mascot jokes and all

as Leggette "fan"....the only negative I think really applies to the pick outside of maybe ideally drafting him slightly later is Bryce Young is our QB.  And I think Leggette pairs better with a big arm that gambles.  Not sure Bryce is really the type thrower that can get the most out of Leggette.

Young has absolutely demonstrated the ability to drive the ball down the field when the protection is there. The hashmarks dont expand at the pro level.

i actually wonder if we’ll see Leggette used more as a weapon underneath though while he develops while Johnson is used to stretch the intermediate zone. I know he had lots of big shots at SC but I think his biggest strength is probably with the ball in his hand.

    ted ginn to the chiefs

terrible post. Worthy has bend and wiggle. Lot of people here don’t want Worthy as soon as he broke the record because people here make assessments that shallow.

Please don't take a Center at 33 ffs.  Trade down to take such a low value position.  I'm not saying Center isn't important.  I'm saying its not valuable on the draft board.

there’s a big demographic of people here who distill picks down to nothing more than “I don’t want to draft a bust”

but that’s not the strategy teams employ in the draft. Look at the contract aj brown just got. You’ve got to build an offense with skill players. But you’re not just going to buy an aj brown. You’ve almost always got to draft him.

servicable center play can be bought for next to nothing, and a good center isn’t adding any wins to your win total versus an average center.

the one thing they can’t do is go center at 33. Maximize value.

  6. I’d still expect a run on the top defensive talent at some point which pushes the next group of wide receivers down to us

getting the top prospect on the defensive side of the ball outside of the top 10 is a nice get for someone

Edge is still valuable and the DT is Stoopid high as well.

    CB are getting paid.

You got to stop those QBs and WRs ...

the rules are set up to favor WRs in a matchup between the two positions, they thus inherently offer more to your capacity to win.

defensive players will still get drafted high but they need to be rare prospects

No D in the top 10......I'm a little shocked.

    LOLOLO at failcons.

Why? Game has changed. Top 10 picks are precious and the draft is about maximizing value. Offensive players contribute more, they cost more on their second contracts, they’re all around more valuable.

I think Ladd will be gone (Buffalo or Chiefs) by the time we pick, the more realistic WR left for 33 probably are Legette, Worthy, Franklin, Pearshall, Coleman,  Polk and other project day 2 WRs.

It all depend on how Morgan & Co value these WRs at 33 If one of the top 1 rd grade talent C, CB, Edge, LB drop to the second.

I wouldn’t be surprised if mcconkey slid a bit. All it takes is one team but it sure looks like he’s much more well liked by fans and the media than nfl teams. Joe person has said the panthers “like him, but like others guys more.”

No offense but It’s weird that leggette gets so much criticism here for his career production by the same people who are all in on Ladd.

  10. there’s no need to necessarily go into this draft and go box ticking with your shopping list, and there’s especially no need to go setting picks on fire for lesser value positions

the talent at WR is there in the late first early second range, mining that a bit especially on the offensive side of the ball, is a good idea.

It comes down to if he can get stronger through his routes. If he beats a guy off the line he's gone, but so are most receivers, but if a DB gets hands on him, and DBs are better in the pros, he can't get free. If he can get better at that, then he could be pretty damn good.

sure there’s criticisms but welcome to the nfl draft. I’m generally more concerned with what these guys can do as opposed to what they can’t.  He has rare attributes. That’s hard to get outside the top of the draft.
