we gave up a 4rth as well.  Reach or not he is expensive from a draft capital standpoint

I think we can all agree Reach. I think we can all agree expensive. But this isn’t a sky is falling. We weren’t getting Greg Olsen at pick 132. It wasn’t reckless and this isn’t Edmund Kugbila

I would have preferred Ojulari there across from Burns getting after the QB. Our Oline depth isn’t good and getting Torrence would have been good as well. I want my 2nd round picks to be starters and Mingo isn’t going to be a starter on this team barring injury at the moment. Drafting Brian Branch would have allowed Chin to stay closer to the line of scrimmage or linebacker area and get him away from playing deep where he isn’t terrific.

And everyone has their preference but Mingo is in the same tier of guys that were picked well after him like Rice, Hyatt and Tillman.

Ojulari and DJ Johnson- Same stats for 2022. The love fest makes no sense.

Everything else. Well said. WR is pick your flavor, same tier. Brian Branch is a bad mother…Honey Badger lite and I would’ve loved him. Need depth at OL no doubt.

I see what you're saying.  I'm not mad about it just trying to assess.

Ojulari doesn't have good burst, but his bend, lateral movement and pursuit is top level.  I can see why team's viewed him fringe 1st/early 2nd.

Once TEN's Byron Young went, I think the remaining EDGE's we liked were thinning out.  I mean, there were a TON that went in 2-3.  Hall, BJ, Foskey, Tuli, White flew off the board after the Mingo pick.  That was a risk we took with landing a fave offensive weapon instead of one of them first.

Seems like we definitely had a positional fill in mind over BPA here, which, I guess is fine.  There were some really solid DBs & RBs available but I won't fret.  Have to think we had DJ Johnson in a tier above McGuire, Henry, etc. that made him worthy of the trade up.  YaYa Diaby was taken right after who is old as well, but a bit more explosive IMO.

He's on the team now so all we can do is hope for the best!

Ohhhh this I can get with. BJ and DJ same stats for 2022. I think Tuli, Foskey, and White are YGM, meaning I think they are all 4-3 DE in the Pros.

Young was a fit and I think that triggered the trade. I hated the DJ Johnson pick at first. Called him a senior citizen. But it’s growing on me. You never know who works and and who don’t. These guys talking about their crushes like they are top 10 can’t miss guys killing me over here.

We nailed the Young pick and then reached on Mingo and reached on DJJ. What a weird draft.

Agree on the reaches, but 39-80 who is the can’t miss dude we passed on? Who is the day one starter? Arguments can be made for corners and nickels I guess. We already invested a fug ton in OL.

My only questioning is what sets DJ apart from Isaiah McGuire, Hampton, or KJ Henry at EDGE. They must see something specific in him that set him apart to trade up for.

    Hampton would’ve been a good pick..but for Hampton-Size.

KJ Henry is stiff as a board

McGuire had better production so can’t argue that.

What sets BJ Olujari apart from DJ Johnson?

I Didnt like the Johnson pick or the trade. But Go back and look at picks 39-80. Where is the can’t miss day one starter…Cam Smith maybe? Honey badger lite from Bama at nickel maybe?

I mean do they really think this dude is going to be a better building block for your team then Darnall washington?  It really doesnt make a lick of sense

Hahahaha Darnell Washington is a future journeyman tackle with bad knees. That’s your guy we missed on?

I’m really trying not to pile on a consensus of criticizing the pick before I’ve seen the guy play, but it is frustrating to think we came out of last night without a player that will plug a gap from day 1. Those guys were available and we didn’t come away with any of them.

now I feel like I’m asking a lot of this 4th round pick just to hopefully provide a guy who can compete for a starting spot while the 2nd and 3rd rounders develop.

Who would have been a “plug the gap guy” a TE maybe? A corner maybe? Really curious as to who you think would’ve been plug and play from 39 on.

When the consensus on here, the consensus of the draft people pretty much say it was a bad trade and pick coupled with Kayes tweet I am pretty goddamn confident that this was a mistake

While the board and Kaye is sucking off BJ Ojulari, compare his stats to Johnson’s for last year. Dude isn’t a blue goose either. Byron Young is also 25 and was an assistant manager at Dollar General at one point. Where is the can’t miss edge rusher we made a mistake and missed on?

lots of butthurt armchair GMs in this thread because we picked someone they don’t know anything about, so therefore he must suck.

I was pissed at first because he’s a senior citizen who has never had statistical success since he started college in 1996. But this was his first year at OLB and he did a really good job at setting the edge and he plays hard and he’s a hustler. If he can be taught one hand technique(he uses zero) when rushing the passer he just might be something

God damn it. This is a “raw” 25 year old….those two don’t go together

Actually fug it. With us going to 3-4 we need a guy that is good vs the run since Burns is on the other side. He sets the edge in the run game at a high level vs some of these other LB that were picked tonight. He plays hard. Maybe we can teach him a pass rushing move. Maybe the old dog can learn one trick.

Sweet. I was big on Kendre Miller. We brought him in. And now I get to watch him in a saints uni. Awesome.

Also brought in Zach Evans his former RB stablemate at TCU. Real similar guy. RB wise tho Devin Achane is my guy. Don’t care how undersized.

  12. Captain Jack is ready to play inside backer. If he’s there at 39 you take him. Sanders is a freak. He’s not great at playing LB tho. Campbell and Sewell will have the better career at backer. Campbell is my pick if he’s there at 39. If not…CORNER all day. Got some guys at CB this draft. I like Sewell with the next pick or Pool later if we miss out on Jack.

Hate to disappoint you, DJ Chark is no Justin Jefferson and you don't yet have a guy like Cousins throwing the rock. Things may be a bit different for Thielen when he doesn't have a guy like Jefferson on the other side taking away safety help.

Well ya know some of Adam’s best years were pre Jefferson. It’s not like Justin Jefferson invented bro.
