  1. Fitterer wants to go down in flames. Giving back-up players contracts of a solid starter. They evaluated the roster and determined it was good. You could draft all your offensive starters in the 2022 draft and field a better unit. Whoever is grading these players really sucks. Fitterer fail
  2. Yay! Yards! Give me more yards! DJ was targeted 163 times last season. Among the most in the NFL. You can get any WR in the NFL and produce 1000 yard seasons with that many targets. There are only a handful of WRs that were worse than DJ and one of them was Robby Anderson. While DJ is one of the most targeted receivers in the NFL, there is a dramatic decline in 1st downs per target, catch%, and TDs per target where DJ is among the worst in the NFL. What does this mean? It means he gets the most opportunities in the NFL, but his production per opportunity is among the worst in the NFL. DJ and Robby together are the 3rd most targeted WR duo in the NFL. You could start Jamison Crowder and Brandon Zylstra with Sam Darnold (who is among the worst in the league), target them 273 times, and they will out produce Moore and Robby. Jefferson, Diggs, Hill, and Adams have been targeted the same. They convert their targets into catches. Their catch% improves year after year topping 70%. DJ's goes down with the more opportunities he gets. They convert 100+ receptions with those opportunities. DJ has yet to break 100 receptions. The others on the list produce more 1st downs and TDs with their opportunities. DJ is among the worst in the NFL when it comes to 1st downs and TDs per target. Total yardage is overrated. There are #3 WRs on multiple teams that will give you the same production as DJ, and there will be 5+ more receivers entering the NFL in 2022 that will be an upgrade over DJ. DJ continues to trend downward while the other trend up or remain among the best WRs in the league. The rookie WRs coming into the league will not outproduce them. We may as well be celebrating a RB who gets 1100 yards every season with 315 carries (3.5 yards per carry) for 6 TDs, and among the worst at 1st downs per carry. Then we can blame the OL and OC for his ineffectiveness. I'll change my opinion when DJ stops the drops, sells out for 1st downs that are not perfect throws, and has a desire to fight for the endzone on every play.
  3. With the options available, I'd draft a mid round QB and acquire Foles and Flacco. Give the bulk of the snaps to the rookie and have them compete with Foles and Flacco. Foles and Flacco are brought in knowing they are there to help develop a QB and provide healthy competition to accelerate their development. At worst the mid round QB develops into a premier back up QB for a future franchise QB. Best case is that QB becomes the franchise QB and proves they can win in the clutch. Sam Darnold and PJ Walker are not doing anything to advance the team. I'd go with Foles and Flacco over Darnold and Walker if all you want is an improvement.
  4. Rhule's only hope is to take a page out of a desperate Dick Vermeil's playbook as he was going into his hot seat year in 1999. He had to hire a new offensive coordinator after going 9-23 in his first 2 seasons with Tony Banks/Steve Bono and had the 6th pick going into the NFL draft. Vermeil had a miracle QB, got a new OC, had Isaac Bruce play a full season coming off an injury shortened season, traded for a top offensive threat with Marshall Faulk in the NFL, and drafted Torry Holt with the 6th pick. So, Rhule needs to get a new offensive coordinator (check). Have CMC play a full season. Find an unknown QB off the street who has been cut from rosters with deep QB talent (like Favre, Detmer, and Brunell). and knows this will likely be his one and only shot to be the starter in the NFL. Draft an offensive playmaking WR with great hands with the 6th pick that the QB can throw to. Trade for Davante Adams and make him the highest paid WR in the NFL. That's the recipe of desperation for Rhule to win the SB. Then hopefully he retires and calls it a career as the Panthers HC just like Vermeil did with the Rams. Hope for that miracle QB to appear! There is no other hope.
  5. Will he play RB? Pass on project Willis. Seen this experiment before. Panthers don't have the mad scientist to make this project work.
  6. "Marty was there that year, and he hired me full time in ’99. I was a sponge to him and I never wanted to let him down, and the more I was around him, I just grew. Every year he gave me more rope, and more things to do. He taught me the cap. We did CBA stuff. He let me do behind-the-scenes scouting, watching tape, whether it was college or pro or free agents and just be another sounding board with him along the way. I wouldn’t be here without him." - Brandon Beane Hurney wanted Beane to replace him. Beane would disagree with you.
  7. Yes, Walsh/McVay tree for both Reid and McVay. This is nothing new. They just studied the philosophy on how to build a team from the best. They throw BPA out the window. They know how to get better value out of their draft capital. 1st round picks are more valuable to exchange if you don't meet the Walsh/McVay criteria of using the 1st round pick on a player. You can get a QB in the 3rd round to lead your franchise. No need to use a 1st round pick on a QB. It's a waste of draft capital. Better to get a known 1st round talent at QB than draft one. If you do draft one, you better make sure they have been raised on football, around professional sports, have a network of NFL mentors since childhood, and come with an elite sports pedigree. This does not mean just go out and trade away 1st round picks for a QB. You need to build draft capital of 10 picks a year (1st round does not matter in this process) and spot the players who will win and compliment each other. Once you have a team set, you can bring in an overlooked 1st round talent QB that has proven they can drive a team down the field to win in the clutch. Nothing about size, speed, or strength. Those are all secondary in a players evaluation under the Walsh/McVay philosophy. The Stafford formula that Sean McVay used is the same formula his grandfather John McVay used to trade for Steve Young 34 years ago.
  8. Let the Hurney hate continue, and keep telling me how his protégé Beane should never replace him as GM because Gettlemagic is better. Hurney will never be a GM that can build a dynasty, but he knew how to build a team and spot key talent to contend for a championship.
  9. History and data show it is not as big a gamble as using a 1st round pick on an unknown quantity at QB. I believe in the Bill Walsh/John McVay draft and QB evaluation philosophy.
  10. Can't even get any of our roster full of 1st round draft picks in the top 100. Remember when the Panthers had 3rd rounders, 5th rounders, undrafted players, and trade acquisitions in the top 100 along with their 1st rounders? Will we ever see that again?
  11. I've been looking for major problems with Coan. Everything thing I see shows me a patient QB taking what the defense gives him and quickly recognizes when a defense falls apart and taking advantage of it. He is precise, aware, moves a defense and wears a defense. He's not flashy, but he takes a defense apart, plays smart, great leader, and knows when to take his shots. I wasn't expecting much from Coan, but the more snaps I saw the more I was impressed on how well he took over a game when he needed to and came up clutch on critical downs. Coan made all the players around him better too. Kyle Hamilton said Coan reminds him of Mac Jones. Is there a game I should look at again to see him play like garbage?
  12. If Tom Brady, Kurt Warner, Russell Wilson, Colin Kaepernick or Drew Brees were in this draft, most of you would all want the best of the overhyped and overrated crop of QBs because they can run and have a strong arm. You will take your media hyped falling and failing 1st round projected Mitchell Trubisky(2nd), Akili Smith(3rd), Jay Cutler(11th), Johnny Manziel(24th), or The Golden Calf of Bristol(25th) because there is no clear cut 1st rounder. Reaching for the hype instead of looking past it and recognizing the rising QBs from the back of the pack. You could get your 1st round OL, QB, and a couple WRs/TEs for the same cost of an overvalued QB at the 6th pick. This draft is loaded with mid round talent. Thin on 1st round talent. Do you want a QB like Mitchell Turbisky or Akili Smith with a top 10 pick instead of getting a C like Nick Mangold in the 1st round, a QB like Kurt Warner/Tom Brady in the 6th round, a WR like Steve Smith in the 3rd round, and another WR like Stefon Diggs in the 5th round? There is a center, QBs, and WRs in this draft that will give you the upside of getting the potential of these players who will be much more competitive than most of the overvalued 1st rounders. The amount of talent and upside in the mid rounds of the 2022 draft is rare. I can't recall ever seeing this much talent packed in a draft class. I believe this is due to the covid shortened season in 2020, all the redshirts taken, and all the transfers from big schools going into the 2021 season. You may never see this much talent in a single draft for decades.
  13. Those physical specimens sure win in the playoffs. Oh wait, they don't? And he's a project? Video analysis calls his decision making "borderline disaster" and "turnover worthy". Syracuse shut down his athleticism at the goal line and on his final drive to force a turnover. Willis' athleticism and arm couldn't even get the lead against a team like Syracuse. Watch the game and you'll understand he is not clutch and a complete project. He wasn't even ready to perform at the Senior Bowl against a vanilla D. Just go with Eleby if this is the type of QB you want. I've given you 5 QBs that are success worthy at the NFL level. Coan, Kelley, Glass, Eleby, and Ridder. Coan and Glass are ready to start and capable of learning in live action with success in year 1. The other 3 are minor projects that can start year 2 or 3 with some hard work. Let's all step away from the overhyped fools gold with Pickett, Willis, Corral, Strong, and Howell. If you have to take one of these 5, you take Howell and accept mediocre seasons and missing the playoffs without the best D in the NFL that scores points.
  14. Carson Strong sunk like a rock in the Senior Bowl. Worst of the six QBs there. Zappe looked better. Slow adapting, unathletic, and weak command of an offense. I'd rather have Darnold. That Fresno State breakdown is a joke. Watch the whole game and watch how Strong struggles. When he needs to be clutch he folds. Carson Strong back to pass. Three man rush gets to Strong. Balls out! Strong sulks on the field with his head down with 2 minutes to go. His receivers better be able to jump for his passes. They tend not to be in the receivers area code. He demonstrated that in the Senior Bowl too. Trouble reading defenses and forces balls into double and triple coverage. Think a cross between Jay Cutler and Kerry Collins. You really want that at QB? Great arms. Nothing much for winning a game or being clutch. He can hang his head with the best of them. Mountain West coaches figured out Strong and punished him. NFL coaches will not be worried about facing Strong. If Strong is the QB, get comfortable with hearing "nearly intercepted".
  15. You let Efe Obada go for lack of production and then extend Luvu? They think Luvu is a starter? There will be late round draft picks in this draft who can be more of an impact. I guess anyone next to Jermaine Carter Jr and behind Burns or Reddick against the run game would look like an NFL starter. Good guy. Hard worker. Not an impact player with a nose for the ball. Back up at best.
  16. It's 16 years and it wasn't in the 1st round. You still have not done your research. A QB being drafted from an HBCU to start is RARE. When this rare occurrence does happen, they find starting opportunities and somehow end up in the SB. It's not like an HBCU QB comes along to be drafted every year or couple of years at that.
  17. You can build a legit championship OL from scratch this offseason between the draft and free agency without breaking the bank.
  18. No man. Calm down. He is being touted in scouting circles and his draft stock is rising. He has several big NFL names in his corner talking him up like Deion Sanders, Doug Williams, Jeff Fisher, Marvin Lewis, and Wade Phillips. He is currently getting praised this week with his practices. We will see what happens in the game this weekend. I'd be shocked if he disappoints. Scouts are lining up to see several Big 5 transfers who went to HBCUs this week, and Glass is the headliner. I saw him as a late 5th rounder/early 6th. He is likely a late 3rd now. If he continues to impress, I can see a team racing to grab him first in the late 2nd round with all the other top QBs disappointing. He was likely 8th on the list of the top 10 to start, but he could easily be the 5th or 6th QB taken in the draft. I rarely see QBs I would want to draft. Last time I saw multiple QBs worth drafting was in 2012. Glass is a great upside value pick at QB.
  19. Investing a 1st round pick in a QB with a lame duck coach is insane. The teams that take Ridder, Glass, Coan, Kelley, and Eleby will be the big winners at QB in this draft. I think Glass will end up with the Steelers or Saints. Kelley will land with the Saints. Coan will be with the Colts. Ridder goes to the Commies. Eleby lands with the Lions. I can only hope one of these QBs get a chance under Lame Duck Rhule this year. It will be a very interesting year to watch for all these rookie QBs who will get starting opportunities in 2022.
  20. Panthers could be competitive this year. Draft Aqeel Glass and Jack Coan at QB. Draft Jack Wohlabaugh C and Zach Tom G. Sign a vet guard with playoff appearances. Bring back Trai Turner? Draft Ezra Gray RB/slot receiver/returner Draft Jacquez Ezzard WR/returner. He will be the #1 in a year. Draft Dee Anderson hybrid WR/TE and Jelani Woods TE. Draft John Ridgeway NT/DT and Haskell Garrett for DT/DE. Draft Devin Lloyd MLB and James Houston IV DE/OLB/MLB. Draft Markquez Bell FS. Pair them with CMC, Abdullah, Moton, Christensen, Tremble, Moore, Anderson, Zylstra, Chinn, Horn, Gilmore, CJ, Donte, Shaq, Derrick Brown, and Burns. All but Lloyd can be drafted in the 4th round or later. Glass may go in the 3rd round. Panthers need to trade down their 6th pick a couple times and take Lloyd in the mid to late 1st round. Then trade down to accumulate more 3rd day picks. This will set the Panthers up to be competitive this season and fill a few holes in the 2023 offseason. Any players not listed could be used to gain draft capital too. All of these drafted players can and will be key contributors and gamebreakers in year 1. This will turn around the Panthers faster and seal a young culture of competitors, leaders, and winners who will out work many teams in the NFL while having fun and being thankful for every game... never giving up their starting spot on the field to anyone type of mentality. Need 13 picks. If there is anyway the Panthers can trade Burns plus other players to get a late 1st, or early 2nd and 3rd/4th with Jermaine Johnson on the board, do it too! Massive leader and culture infusion with college players who can thump and tackle. Offensive players who threaten to make a big play happen anytime they touch the ball. These pieces fit with the few good players the Panthers have. Complete compliments. Underdog hard working ethic from day 1 with this selection of players. No where but up! Nothing to lose and everything to prove. Foundation set for key star free agent infusion in 2023. 100% doable. Do it! Be a threat in 2022!
  21. With all the talk about the overhyped and project QBs, there are only 5 QBs I would consider in this draft that have the intangibles needed for playoff runs. Aqeel Glass and Jack Coan will be quick returns for the teams that draft them. Cole Kelley and Kaleb Eleby may be able to make an impact in playoff games. Ridder is the only one of the overhyped bunch that could develop into an NFL playoff QB. I rarely ever see a QB coming into the draft that can be an impact in the playoffs during their rookie contract. This year's draft has 2 of those QBs in Glass and Coan. No question in drafting either of these QBs. Ridder would be a project that will pay off for a patient coach. When you see an HBCU QB get NFL attention, you should take notice. The last 3 who were given the opportunity to start all went to the SB. It's rare, and You'll likely not see it again for 10 to 20 years.
  22. Fans overvalue Burns. Good teams would not start him. He'd be a premier situational pass rusher.
  23. If Rhule becomes a delegator and on field team builder. He allows his coaches and players to dictate the play and culture while he simply guides it. Hitting on 6 leaders in the draft and free agency that all align with a championship culture. That would excite me and give me some hope. Doubt it happens. He has his hands in too much, has an ego that competes with his players, and keeps pushing a culture of self-deprication.
