Anyone left who does not believe in Bryce ?
CPantherKing replied to Frank9999's topic in Carolina Panthers
You're bring extremely generous in your comparisons. Cam Newton's first season was 4800 yards, 35TDs and ORoY. He rattled off 400 to 500 yards a game to begin his career and consistently put up 300 yards a game. Cam had several 3 TD games and a couple 4 TD games. Young looked like the worst starting QB from the draft in his rookie season. Then he was benched after face planting in the first 2 weeks of his 2nd season. Young faced 5 good pass defenses in his 12 starts (Saints 2x, Chargers, Broncos, and Eagles). He didn't look good against any of them. He then struggled against mediocre to poor pass defenses against the Giants, Cowboys, and Bucs 2x. You're hanging hopes on 3 (2W-1L) games in 2024 (Falcons, Cardinals and Chiefs). Falcons and Cardinals were the worst pass defenses in the league. Hope was placed into 3 (1W-2L) games from 2023 (Lions, Texans and Packers). Those were all playoff teams. That isn't a step back? Collins, Beuerlein, Peete, Delhomme, Newton, Allen, Bridgewater, and Darnold all gave more hope to the franchise in their first 1 to 2 seasons as starter than Young. Mayfield was only given 6 starts before giving up on him. Young still needs to defeat more than 1 winning team, put up more than 1 300+ yard game and produce a 3+ game winning streak to catch up to the above QBs. He's improved from Clausen level to just above Weinke level (Rams moral victory). Our hope is that Young can surpass Peete and Bridgewater now with multiple 300+ yard games, a 3 game win streak, 2+ wins over teams that don't have a losing record, and more than one 3+ TD game. Panthers 2024 is how I'd expect a 2nd year for Weinke in 2002 to have gone if they started him 2 weeks, benched him for Peete and then started him for the final 10 games. I hope we have a Delhomme ready to play in 2025 in case the 2024 QB struggles repeat. Keep this in mind, if Young had back to back weeks of producing moral victories against the 2 SB teams with 3 TDs in each game including a 300+ yard game, posted 4 wins on the season, and had a 3 game win streak, you'd be crowning him as a decade long franchise QB. That's with 28 starts under his belt as a Panther. You'd be heralding Young as a future MVP if he did this in his first 14 starts as a Panther. This season performance wasn't good enough to buy that QB another season. -
Panthers and Horn talks will be interesting
CPantherKing replied to Captain Morgan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Has Horn ever shown he is a consistent shut down CB? He has 5 INTs, 0 FF, 26 PDs, and 2 sacks in 37 starts. He hasn't been able to stay healthy for an entire season, and he has never been the deciding factor in a single game. He has not shown himself to be a playmaker even with his athleticism to be around the ball. Extending players who fail to show they can be consistent after 4 seasons is crazy. If you didn’t want Norman and Gilmore extended, why would you want Horn extended beyond his 5th year option? I doubt he's taking a discount to stay with Evero. -
BREAKING: Panthers making defensive staff changes
CPantherKing replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Ok. It wasn't Evero or the DL run stopping. It was the secondary and LB coach all along. This will solve everything about the ineffective scheme. On a serious note, this smells of Evero ready to scoop up Raheem Morris' staff. Do we think that Falcons passing defense was coached up better than the Panthers? -
Bryce Young's top plays of the 2024 season
CPantherKing replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
Young's flash plays look good, and he's deadly against that weak area in a cover 2. When the first read is open the defense will pay for it. The receivers are much better than people give them credit for. The rookie class of Coker, XL and J.Sanders know how to win on their routes. The passing offense coaching staff know how to quickly develop their receivers. Good play design has been there, and was apparent since the Raiders game - especially with the passing game. Even Young's 7 highlights from the Falcons game show how open the receivers are out of their breaks as well as how the play design holds the defense so Young can run the ball easily. The consistent execution, decision making, and post snap progressions of the passes against the top passing defenses is what needs to improve to have a playoff caliber offense. There were only 5 of these top plays in the highlights where Young progressed beyond his first read. Need to see those plays in the highlight package to win consistently. Until then, the passing game will rely heavily on play design, pre-snap reads, precision receivers and QB runs. -
Evero getting another shot with new players
CPantherKing replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
So, what defenders are you replacing? It's Evero, so Jewell, Robinson, Fuller and Williams aren't leaving. Those are his guys. Brown and Horn are mainstays. Clowney and Wonnum (knowing he had to heal up) were just signed so they aren't leaving for 2025. Shaq was the best playmaker on the team, and he is likely gone. I could see a 1 year contract for him since he has been with Evero for 2 years. The only 2 starting defenders to stay healthy are likely gone. Mike Jackson was a 1 year signing. Woods is a free agent I don't expect to sign again. That leaves NT, ILB, CB, S. I expect Evero to push for DJ Jones at NT in free agency. So, if Shaq does come back, that leaves a similar Evero defense with hopeful improvements at CB and safety. We should not expect a complete overhaul while expecting more of the same from an Evero defense. Evero would need to be replaced to overhaul the defense. Here's to hoping the Panthers land the best CB and/or S in the league. 33 or 34 defenses need to be aggressive with disguised zone coverage. Evero wants to play soft zones while trying to sneak in some pressure on rare occasions. Evero needs a game changing safety, a dominant run stopping NT, 2 gap aggressive ILBs, and a 12+ sack edge rusher to make his defense above average. Not happening. -
Tell that to Andy Dalton. He was without Thielen and Coker, right? He had Johnson and Mingo after losing Thielen during the Raiders game. Did the play caller change? Stop the excuses and pulling down the success of the receivers and the playcalling. So, why is Young throwing more risky throws a game better than reading the defense post snap and making the correct decision? That gives the defense more opportunity to change the game. Young's accuracy is good. His post snap pocket vision and decision making is not. That's why you don't want to be on the left side of that chart compared to the field. He will continue to cost the Panthers games against good and mediocre pass defenses if you want him to stay on the left side throwing more passes into tight windows. We also know having Thielen and Coker is an improvement over Johnson and Mingo. So, I'd say Dalton would have moved further to the right if he had Thielen and Coker. Give Young Johnson/Mingo instead and you'd likely see Mac Jones type production with the Patriots having him high and left in that same chart. You can't just hope Young plays the worst pass defenses like the Giants, Cardinals and Falcons for 17 games. Teams have and will make Young pay for what he did against the Cardinals and Falcons. There won't be an OT opportunity against those defenses. Young needs to get himself over to the right side of the chart with Jayden Daniels and Andy Dalton. The supporting cast excuses are not going to do that for him.

If only Bryce had the receivers and play caller who could get open enough to be on the right side of the graph like Andy Dalton. Let's not try to convince people that doubling a passing defenses opportunities to change a game because your QB can thread the needle on 29% of his high risk throws is a good trade off. Stop making excuses for Bryce. He could have been where Jayden Daniels is if he saw the field better like Andy Dalton. Bryce is a 1 read or hot route throwing it to a point off of his pre snap reads. The receivers are breaking and tracking the ball exceptionally well on rainbow back shoulders, double coverage, and even triple coverage. 1 of every 4 or 5 attempts thrown at a tight window is bad (8 per game). 1 of every 8 to 10 attempts is good (4 per game). Why? Because a QB nearly doubles the chances of a defense making a play on the ball. This is the difference between 0 INTs and 1 to 2 INTs against the top secondaries in the league. Go back and watch the Saints, Chargers, Broncos, Eagles, and Cowboys games. Even the Bucs demonstrated how knocking down the ball was relatively easy. The Chiefs, Cardinals and Falcons are at the bottom of the league with their pass coverage. Still, we saw how easily the Falcons could force 3 and outs with 3 straight passes against zone on Young's final drive of regulation. With Young's accuracy he should be at a 70% completion rate. Stop arguing against this. It's his post snap vision from the pocket that's the problem. 6 PD/2 INT, 5 PD/1 INT, 2 PD/2 INT, 4 PD/1 INT, 5 PD/1 INT, and 4 PD/2 INT is how Young produced against top 20 pass defenses. Cardinals and Falcons are bottom 10 pass defenses and bottom 4 in completion%. The Cowboys and Giants are also at the bottom, and Young struggled with them.

Top left quadrant is not where you want your QB. This means they're not seeing the open receivers and throwing blindly to a point that is double or triple covered. Threading the needle is not what you want a QB to do regularly at this level. It's high risk and low reward as it will hurt a receivers YAC and increase the chance of interceptions/tip drills. This was Mac Jones territory last year. You won't see Mahomes, Jackson, and Goff in that quadrant.

Bryce Young can have a breakout season in 2024
CPantherKing replied to Verge's topic in Carolina Panthers
As long as he can CONSISTENTLY avoid having games like he did against the Saints, Chargers, Broncos, Bucs, Eagles and Cowboys then he may have a shot at a breakout season in 2025. He was benched and didn't beat a winning team while getting thumped by the Cowboys, Eagles and Bucs in 4 of his last 6 games. That's not a breakout. He had a complete and consistent game to end the season on a good note with a little flash and no crash. Young has had 1 win against a winning team in 28 games. Baseline for a breakout season is 8 wins with at least 3 against winning teams(1 on the road), and a 3 game winning streak. -
What's your confidence level in Canales?
CPantherKing replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Canales and the development of his receivers has been the bright spot this season. Canales just needs to be given more control as a HC. It appears they're keeping him locked in an OC role with some extended personnel say after he proves there needs to be a change while carrying the HC title. -
Garrett Wilson eyeing Bryce Young
CPantherKing replied to thunderraiden's topic in Carolina Panthers
Garrett Wilson was the player I wanted top 10 if we couldn't trade back for a core defender like Kyle Hamilton in 2022. Get him! He's a leader and competitor. Not a diva. -
Another former NFL QB breaks down Bryce Young's game vs. ATL
CPantherKing replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
Playcalling on offense was exceptional. Falcons got outcoached. Receivers were near perfect with good hands and several athletic plays with the ball in the air. Thielen and Coker were extremely precise. Running game was consistent with some very good blocking. Young had a good day with several single reads thrown to a point and hot passes for the receivers to make plays. Young only needed to complete a handful of passes beyond his first read. -
Point in time rankings? How does Young go up 3 spots to 14 after getting thumped by the Bucs? So, we can expect he jumps up 6 spots to the 8th spot after his career best against the Falcons? Seems legit

You're not noticing though. Stroud had 6 career games in 2023 including 1 in the playoffs. He's fallen back to a level that's still above Young's best with 2 career games in 2024 with 300+ and a playoff game to come. He has 8 sub-200 games. He has 2 division titles with a 27.8% GWD success rate. Young had 2 career games in 2023 and 2 more in 2024. He has a 21.4% GWD success rate. He has one 300+ game to his name and 17 sub-200 games. Stroud had to slump to get to a level higher than Young. Young had to improve to get to a level lower than Stroud. Young has some catching up to do for him to be at Stroud's lowest point. Excuses need to stop about Young's supporting crew too. He has Hubbard, Thielen, Coker, J.Sanders and XL as his top 5 targets. The top 5 targets are 80% of a passing offense. Who do you think is holding Young back? Who are you replacing? In 2024, Stroud's top 5 targets have a 67.3% catch rate and a 52.9% success rate. Young's top 5 targets have a 72.3% catch rate and a 48.7% success rate. Hubbard is the one bringing down the passing success rate. Outside of Hubbard v Mixon after the catch, The Panthers have the better receiving unit. We're to believe the excuse that the skill position players and playcalling are holding back Young? #noticebetter

The undrafted players are always out there. You need the scouts who know how to spot them and the GMs who know how to elevate these scouts in the decision room. The scout who found Coker is the same scout who found Kenny Dyson Jr. Should have given them both more snaps this season.

A 12 yard post TD on blown coverage. Tremble had no one covering him and he's the first read off the single high safety movement. This is an expected throw of all QBs when a single high safety cheats with no help 10 out of 10 times. The only thing close to epic on this play is the play design on 4th and 1. A big heavy right formation (typically run or strong rollout); They ran Christensen on a crossing route to pull the CB left while having Tremble on a corner-post to pull the safety to the right corner. The CB gave high coverage to Christensen who was already covered by a LB. The CB was suppose to be in range of a post throw.

Nick Foles, Mitchell Trubisky, Daniel Jones, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Mark Rypien, Tommy Kramer, Jameis Winston, Matt Flynn, Baker Mayfield, and Sam Darnold all achieved this career best scoring feat. Last I checked most here believe these QBs weren't good enough to be franchise QBs. Young is not on track to be better than 9 of those 10 QBs. I'd even argue Matt Flynn would out produce Bryce Young if a team held onto him for 2 to 3 seasons instead of 7 starts.
