Week 18 Game Thread: Cats vs Birds
CPantherKing replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Penix already looks better than Bryce. Am I the only one tired of seeing rookies & backups look better than Young over & over? Long list this year alone -

I hope this is the last game we see Bryce & Evero in key roles for the Panthers. -
Josey Jewell is Evero's chosen leader. He's never led a defense to a winning season. I keep hearing Derrick Brown and Jaycee Horn are good while they've failed to lead a defense to a winning season or a division championship. Fuller and Robinson won a SB. Shaq went to a SB. Clowney went to a conference championship last season. Jackson has helped a defense to the playoffs and this is is his first season starting on a losing team. Woods has won in the playoffs and had multiple winning seasons. Tuttle has been to the playoffs and started on a winning defense. DJ Wonnum has been to the playoffs. So, the unproven ones on defense are Evero, Jewell, Brown and Horn. All the others have been at least playoff caliber under other DCs. Why is keeping the consistent losers the answer to improving the defense? This excuse that Evero has defensive starters who drag down a DC is ridiculous. They are proven playoff level talent that can win in the league. Evero and Jewell need to go. They will never have success in the NFL. Brown and Horn are talent a good DC can use, but they will never be defensive leaders.

Let's have fun & play another if if if game... Let's do Andy Dalton next. Remove his 2 worst games, give him Coker & Thielen while removing Miles Sanders taking carries from Hubbard. Extrapolation manipulation 2024 for 17 games! 4466 yards 40 TDs 11 ints 95.3 Passer rating That's how Dalton would have done for 17 games. That's without Coker & only having Thielen for 5 of the 17 games. Dalton would have done that with XL, Johnson & Mingo. Dalton with Thielen & Coker for 11 of 17 games: 5203 yards 40 TDs 6 ints 97.2 Passer rating That was fun. Looks like QB is what's holding the offense back. Dalton would have been up there with Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield and Geno Smith for 2024.

How quickly people forget Derrick Brown is not a 43 DT. He's a DE & only fits a 34 scheme. Relying on Brown to control gaps for the run is crazy talk. He needs to bull rush and slant inside with someone else doing the outside contain. I still don't think Tepper will ever decide to away from the Steeler 34 defense he loves so much. Wanting to force a 4i tech DL into a 2 or 3 tech is asking to have the center of your defense ripped open. It's bad enough Ekwonu is playing LT, Young is playing in the pocket, Horn is forced to play umbrella zone, Shaq is forced to play ILB, and XL is forced to play over the middle. If you want to win, then you play these players at their strength position/role for most of their snaps.

If you’re wondering how far we have to go
CPantherKing replied to Doc Holiday's topic in Carolina Panthers
You'd consider a 1st round pick that the Rams didn't give away the franchise for and led them to a SB in his 2nd season a bust? Drafted to a bad team in 2016. Led that team to the playoffs in his second season and a SB in his 3rd season. You're giving Bryce Young too much credit. We all wish he was at the level of Jared Goff, Carson Wentz, Patrick Mahomes, DeShaun Watson, Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, or Lamar Jackson. We'd be happy if he was like Mitchell Trubisky leading his team to the playoffs in year 2. Nope, we got another Josh Rosen, and decided to hang onto him for a 3rd season when Young should have been dumped after year 1, and definitely ejected after week 2 of this season. Let's feel more of the pain & inconsistentcy for another year with the blind floaters, wobblers, and rainbows. Flash & crash is what you will always see from Bryce Young. He does less than what Daniel Jones does on the field, and people want to call it amazing because Young is tiny. -
some rando's opinion... Evero *will be* first to be fired

Jahmyr Gibbs and Jameson Williams sure didn't need Bryce Young -
Let's go over the development and peak of an NFL QB again. 28 to 32 for QBs who get to their first conference championship game. 30 years or older for QBs who win their first SB. Darnold and Mayfield are just now entering this zone, and we'll likely see them play each other in the wildcard round. Drafting a QB in the top 20 picks is a luxury for teams that are already built for the playoffs like Roethlisberger and Mahomes. Rebuilding teams like the Panthers or Bears will just be farming up QBs for the rest of the league to insert when they near 28 years. The Colts didn't make it to a championship game with Manning until he was 27, and won a championship game when he was 30. The Panthers gave up on Newton at 29, Allen at 23, Bridgewater at 28, Darnold at 25, and Mayfield at 27. Jake Delhomme's peak was 28 to 33. Newton wasn't allowed to reach his peak. Young QBs need to be carried to win, and they will consistently lose out to the 30 year old veteran QBs in the playoffs. Build a contender around a 28+ year QB for 3 to 4 years, and then insert a 1st round QB if the the vet QB can't win in the playoffs. This lesson on the QB position has been a constant for decades.

Tepper has cut out the talent, loaded up on failed projects, wasted a decade of draft capital, destroyed any semblance of culture, and devalued leadership. I have some hope for Canales, the OL, Coker, and J.Sanders. Thielen is nearing retirement & Hubbard is at his peak as a 1st down RB. Ian Thomas remaining on the offense since Tepper bought the franchise speaks volumes.

Announcers keep saying floater & rainbow for Young's highlights. When did that ever result in consistent success at QB? I call his play sonce college as flash & crash for a reason. He needs perfect receivers like Thielen or crazy athletic acrobats. Young's receivers must have the best hands in the NFL too for him to be average. Asking way too much of an offense to carry Young -

But Bryce Young has had 2 GREAT drives! That's improvement, right? Just ignore the 3 consecutive 3 & out drives and the completion %. That wasn't Young's fault. -

Everyone comes around to my assessment after 2 or 3 wasted years. Evero's been a failed Capers' project before he joined the Panthers. Now, we just wait for the flash & crash QB play to wear on the fan base for another 2 seasons. -
