  1. I’m not in the same state either but have friends in NC still. Where I live it’s not required by the state and we’ve opened up but basically every store requires it or strongly encourages it in my city. Basically you’re weird if you don’t wear one. Temp checks too in some places. And we aren’t seeing crazy rises in cases or hospitalizations. Yesterday the percentage went from 2.9 to 4 out of 16000 tests a day and we thought that was really bad here. But NC has had double the cases and deaths. My friends back home tell me they barely see anybody wearing masks out. point of the story. Wear fuging masks.
  2. they’re requiring masks in Raleigh starting 4 pm. and rumor has it it will be statewide next week.
  3. And it shouldn’t be that way but here we are which was in part the point I was making. If we’ve built a society where we “politically” have to stop the state from murdering people with a darker skin tone then what the fug are we doing. We’re lucky black people are just wanting equality and not revenge. People need to wake up and think about if this was happening to them and their families what they would do. They would absolutely be rioting and protesting regardless of a pandemic.
  4. Lol I’ve heard it all now on the carolinahuddle.com
  5. And police don’t care about feelings when brutalizing and murdering black and brown people with impunity. This issue just doesn’t affect you so this is the take you have. Guaranteed if it did you would be marching too.
  6. yeah no. That’s not what you said. You literally just “both sides” in an attempt to compare the two situations which is the reason for my response. It is never incredibly idiotic to protest what they are protesting regardless of the situation. People are risking their lives for this knowing full well what is at stake. If you don’t see how urgent this is then I don’t know what to tell you. The only way to bring about change is to protest and riot. All other options have been exhausted. And guess what? It’s working. They also have free testing sites in major cities specifically for protestors. And orgs like BLM are insisting on people getting tested and staying away from vulnerable family/friends. I know some of you like Dave Chappelle. Watch this:
  7. I didn’t know black and brown people being murdered by cops in broad daylight was political. Maybe if this country actually fuging did something about police brutality leftists wouldn’t have to take to the streets during a fuging pandemic. Comparing one side who refuses to wear masks and protests because they can’t get a haircut to the left protesting police brutality after another black dude was murdered is really fuging stupid. meanwhile you’re in this thread bragging to a bunch of strangers on the internet about being able to buy a half a million dollar home during a pandemic when 40 million people are out of work.
  8. It’s crazy people don’t know this. Part of the reason why health insurance tied to your job is awful. You can do the right thing, live within your means, pay your bills and still get fuged.
  9. I haven’t been since I’ve been up here. They’re big on ice fishing in the winter but super crowded around the isthmus. I fly fish though. Try to find isolated spots soon. There’s suppose to be good trout here.
  10. Yeah I’d like to do something like that. I got a couple rabbit traps also just in case meat distribution gets wonky and local butchers see huge upticks in business. I’m in the suburbs so no guns. If I was in nc I’d be in bat cave. My buddy has got himself a bunch of squirrels. Could live totally off the grid. Has a goat, chickens, a rooster and big areas of produce growing. I lived there for awhile in the middle of nowhere and learned a bunch of stuff.
  11. Get starter kits and start the seedlings inside and then transfer them. We had a frost come through here in Wisconsin (actually it straight up snowed but didn’t stick) and it saved about 45 seedlings I had started here. Unusual for this time of year. you can make your own starter kit if you got some old toilet paper rolls and a plastic covering. Get the soil moist but not too much. Put it by a window. Creates a greenhouse effect.
  12. my mother in law and stepdaughter had it. stepdaughter is 22 and just felt really sick, flu type symptoms, would feel better than would come back. never had the lungs on fire. sore throat, fatigued, fever. lasted about 3 weeks. my mother in law is 83, cancer survivor. she had zero symptoms. when we heard the diagnosis in my mind i was preparing for her death. i think one of the major keys to us getting back to a form of normalcy is scientists learning who is most at risk for this. it's going to take time.
  13. NYC paints a different story about who is ending up in the ICU
  14. i never said there was. but people need to be cognizant of realities outside their bubbles. this started with stirs suggesting we separate vulnerable populations from others. i said that was impossible. i never said we shouldn't reopen. most rational people see both sides of the situation. but we have been going about this horribly from the jump and the people who are going to be most affected by this are the disenfranchised poor/middle class who HAVE to work no matter what.
  15. privileged people have options to keep as safe as possible. and it's not just the elderly who are getting extremely sick.
  16. it's not one person. it's millions of people.
  17. this is what i've been trying to get at. my friends are privileged. i am privileged. they have options. i have options. you have options. many people do not have the option to go to their parents or self quarantine in the same house because they don't live in houses. they live in one bedroom apartments or studio apartments. multiple families in my sisters' neighborhood in california live under the same house. 3 families splitting rent on a house. This virus is going to ravage disenfranchised and poor/middle class communities because they don't have those options. they have to go back to work. they can't self quarantine.
  18. that's fine but like i said my friend is being forced back into work or he will be fired. they know his situation. how do you stop that from happening when state governments are reopening.
  19. i'm not talking about being frozen. your plan simply wont work because vulnerable people are so mixed in with people who this doesn't affect as much. our lives are linked.
  20. what are you suppose to do with households that have one or two vulnerable people but the rest can work? this is the case for many all over the country. one of my friends' gf is weighing leaving the state and moving back to NC because he is being forced to go back to work or be fired. she is at risk. most people can't do this financially or they don't have another place to go.
  21. isbell keeps consistently putting out great records since the dbt days
  22. there is no easy answer here. you try to do a state by state thing and you have poo like what happened this past weekend in georgia. 60k people drove in from neighboring states because they're fuging bored. america is full of some of the most narcissistic people on the planet. whats really sad is i look around my neighborhood, and neighbors i genuinely liked before this pandemic show their true colors with how they are responding to this. whats probably going to happen is a segment of the population is gonna stay home even when things "open up" until scientists start figuring this virus out better. and then there will be a segment of the population that goes out and spreads this poo all over and kills a bunch of people and themselves. the economy is going to take major hits for the forseeable future regardless. the economy was tanking before the stay at home orders were issued.
