You generally do see the starting quarterback included in things like this, but as mentioned in the other discussion, last year's promos didn't include Cam either.
And then they released him

I had always figured it was primarily Joe Brady who lobbied for Teddy. Was surprised when you told us who was really responsible.
It makes perfect sense though. We read well before things really got started that Marty believed the team could win now rather than having to rebuild.
Marty had a 0% chance at a new contract if Will Grier was the QB. He wasn't going to survive a tanking season

Listen to what Tepper says in that interview - the dude cant hide anything.
He said (paraphrasing) that he wasn't as close to some of the decisions early on as he was learning to be an owner and that's on him and now he's more vested in those decisions.
Translation: he let Marty fool him with TB but fug that poo from now on

I would surmise that given how wrong that assessment turn out to be may have had something to do with the choice to hire Fitterer.

We love to blame Hurney for every bad move the Panthers make but for some reason we attach Teddy to Rhule and for the life of me I cant understand why. It was such a desperate move and only one person in a decision making role was desperate.

I don't underestimate the ability of the Texans to do something silly.
Granted, Caserio might change things, but so far they're still a dumpster fire.
If you want to live in that fantasy world then go for it. But the point is, the 49ers can't get close to as a tractive a package as Miami can for both the team and the player combined

Yep. If the Texans have to move on from Watson they need to replace him with other star power or potential star power. Wilson would fit the bill. It's why I think we have an outside chance being able to dangle CMC. That'd be instant star power and they could still land a guy like Lance at #8. That'd be interesting on the Huddle too... we'd instantly have a glimpse into what might've been with the pairing of Lance and CMC in Houston.
Honestly though, I think us landing Watson is a pipedream unless Carolina is THE place he wants to go and there's no indication of that being the case.
This is why Miami and Carolina are the only options IMO. With Miami being the heavy heavy favoriteWith Miami being the heavy heavy favorite

Or Tua.
Given that the Texans just hired a head coach based at least partially on his making friends with Watson at the Pro Bowl though, I'm not necessarily going to predict that they'll make the wisest decision.
Assuming theyre doing to so something dumb When there will be more attractive offers on the table is really silly

I'd agree. Nick Caserio might not, though.
Remember, there was a time in New England when Garoppolo was so popular there was talk of moving on from Brady.
Yeah that just isn't realistic. Miami can get them the three and Wilson. That's realistic

Garoppolo.
Worth remembering that he'd also be someone Caserio is familiar with.
Houston isn't starting over with Jimmy G. That’s a terrible plan

The city? No.
The team? Shanahan's system and a Super Bowl ready roster.
Both Miami and San Fran have old friends of Texans GM Nick Caserio in high places.
The picks the assets. How does SF get Houston a new QB? Miami’s assets do

Or San Francisco, given that they can appeal to both Watson and the Texans.
Can SF get close to what Miami has to offer?

So, you do think we're fully committed to make a run at him?
Oh yeah they'll be in the conversation for sure.

I don't see how we beat Miami with what they can offer and its attractiveness for Watson

Yes, man, both organizations did a terrible job. That's the whole point.

In Cam tenure he also only had one 1k rusher. Cam had horrific running support for the majority of his career in Carolina.
Ive already stated this multiple times but Stafford plays like a beast when the opposing team is terrible, but when the team is a playoff team he chits his pants. So his numbers get skewed.
But Cam was intentionally a major part of the run game. We didn't think the Panthers didn't have a run game (most years) while Cam was here. Johnson literally retired early because they were the only options in a terrible franchise.
So are you arguing that the Lions did a good job building around their franchise QB? Because the only point my post was making is that they didn't. I'm not arguing who had more weapons.

Stafford had WAY better weapons than Cam. Calvin, Tate, Burleson, Jones, Galloday, Amendola, Ebron, Petigrew, Hockerson.
Lack of weapons has never been an issue for Stafford.
I'm not comparing Stafford vs Cam’s weapons. I'm comparing the similarities in the two poorly built franchises. Stafford’s weapons may have been better but they weren't good. They've had one 1K rusher and terrible Ds
Edit: outside of Megatron there isn't a star on your list. And the RB list is a joke. Coaches are bad too

Megatron was no help? He might be a top 2 or 3 WR of all time.
Does one WR help turn a franchise into a winner?
Real question: do you think the Lions did a good job building around Stafford?

Stafford is one of those unsung guys left in a bottom-dwelling franchise. And here we complain about how little respect Cam got.
I wanted to post this too. We complain Cam got no help (he didn't) and then say Stafford isn't good or hasn't won as a reason to not go after him.

If you were a betting man
Would you say our 2020 QB is someone we drafted from this draft, a vet we traded for, or Teddy again and still focused on foundation waiting for QB in 2022?
Ha! Great line!
The only thing I know for sure is they're very aware that they can't roll with the same QB room from 2020. Where the new body or bodies come from I'm not sure and I’d just be guessing like us all. Depends on how the conversations for the available vets go first, it seems.

The Panthers have had a top 10 QB for ~6 seasons of their existence. Stafford is still that.

If the Lions have the 7th and 8th picks that gives them the best chance to package them to move up if needed and it sure seems like they are going to need to get to three for Wilson. No other team (rumored to be in the mix) can offer them a higher pick. The Lions aren't going to ruin their chances at a top QB so Stafford can pick the Steelers or Colts.
