This is why I'm not a fan of Thursday night football.

I could not agree more! A terrible marketing campaign from inception. I played semi-pro football for 7 years and a lot of times it took me until Thursday before just the normal aches and pains from being hit felt better, sometimes before I could even walk normal. Was just a stupid idea to play on Thursdays. If this does become some sort of expose, I hope they actually see the relevance of an NFL game played only 4 days later.

Yeah, I was being a bit facetious dude... why do you think I said, "does that count"?  Break given!

The interview with Rhule is included here. If anyone finds something in what Rhule said that sounds like it's throwing DJ under the bus, please let us know. It's obvious when you watch it, the reporter was just trying to instigate and create a headline. Basically Rhule said everyone needs to get on the same page and the passing game is more than just the QB. Line has to block, receivers have to get open. Nothing controversial.

'Cause we need a little controversy

'Cause it feels so empty without me

    Lol, I couldn't resist... sorry.

The team isn’t playing hard because they know it’s a losing effort. They don’t believe in rhule Mcashit and Baker. When was the last time a player said something good or defended either of them???

When Robbie Anderson gave "coach" the game ball after the Saints win. Lol, does that count?

He got up from that hit Sunday shaking his head as if he was trying to get reoriented...then after a few steps he staggered and went down.  Hard to believe that he did not have a head injury then.  Very tough to believe that a doc did not take him out of that game.  Does not seem like everyone was doing their job.

Yeah, they said it was his back. With severe pain a person will naturally grab the area that is hurting. Tua wasn't grabbing at his back, like you said he got up and was shaking his head like he was disoriented. That said, obviously, back pain can take you to your knees, but I just find it odd that he didn't grab his back after he went to his knee IDK.

I just had a ladder accident where I hit my head in a whiplashing type way. It pinched my spinal cord and I was paralyzed for about 5 to 7 minutes. Gained full function of my legs, but my arms and hands were not functioning right. When Tua was contorting his fingers like that it reminded me of my incident. I had what's called central cord syndrome from pinching that spinal cord. Took a 5 hour surgery, laminectomy and fusion of C2 to C7 to fix me. Tua is very lucky he didn't receive something similar, who knows, maybe he did. Certainly looked like a neurological issue for sure. Dolphins risking this mans life and career, irresponsible!! He'll be very lucky if he even plays again.

I don't mind the run to pass ratio to CMC it's just the designs that are god awful. The run selection in particular is just utter crap.

Seems like all McAdoo is doing in using different spread styles and attacking the perimeter of the field. He loves his WR screens for sure. At some point he needs to get back to some traditional style football. Keep it simple, they have to take advantage of the defensive zone looks by attacking the middle of the field. Seems like 70% of our offense is perimeter attacking with a lot of sideline routes.

Still trying to figure out why we have almost completely stopped passing to CMC out of the backfield. It’s not like he’s one of the top 2 or 3 receiving RBs of all time or anything’s

Those little rub routes and zip routes to middle of field behind second level that Cam used to use with CMC would have killed the Saints today. McAdoo never uses them it seems.

McAdoo seems to be a terrible OC. Maybe he is still trying to figure out what works with our personnel, but the offense is still clearly trying to find an identity. I think Mayfield is playing tight, that would explain the overthrows. McAdoo needs to get his head out of his ass and utilize the talent we have on offense. Get Mayfield comfortable early... 3rd down is STILL an issue and we're not attacking the middle of the field, USE our TE's! IDK, but OC looks like poo so far, worse than Brady honestly.

No poo. The personnel decisions we make are so insanely stupid.

    Like playing Hubbard over Foreman.

Exactly! Was Foreman hurt? You can't say Hubbard is a better RB than Foreman, not even close. I don't understand the personnel decisions either... where is  HIGGINS???

I think we have plenty of big play ability, and we will see big plays all year.

What we haven’t seen in two games is intelligent, drive sustaining ability.

Getting cute on 3rd and short with deep contested passes for example.

CMC should be working the short middle of the field. It’s basically automatic against a linebacker, but we aren’t seeing it.

We have a run blocking line, so let them eat.

Very disappointed with the offensive philosophy so far. I expected more, which shows you I never learn 😆

I agree... remember how well those wheel routes from Cam to CMC used to work in the red zone? I don't get it. "You watch film to huh? Watch this"

Mistake #1.  Having Chubba on returns.  That's not hindsight...actually foresight.  I called that one.  The reason he rarely sees the field is because he has hands of stone, but then he's the backup return guy??????

That set the tone right out of the gate.  Once Hubbard fumbled it was like the team collectively was like, 'oh crap, here we go again.'  It's a mindset now, the team is just waiting for the shoe to drop each and every game.  The current coaching staff can't fix that.  Only a new voice with a new vision and renewed belief is going to steer this team in the right direction.

I'm not in the locker room, but from the outside it appears Rhule's messaging has grown stale with these players.

No, all good points.... and I don't like Shi Smith returning punts. Injury waiting to happen like we saw today. Maybe the biggest point is that Rhue and Co. TRULY is losing the locker room.

You can't lose these many games in such crap-tasitc fashion and say it's the players and not the coaches.  Also, who makes the roster? Oh yeah, THE COACHES.  Yes, players can blow games here and there, but when they can't seal the deal EVERY...FREAKING....WEEK, that's on the coaches.

I don't know man, like I said, I'm frustrated too and just trying to make sense of it. How can we be playing to the level of our competition all the time, and rarely pull one off. I guess it is coaching.

Let me save y'all a bunch of reading. The OP in a nutshell...

"The players should be finding a way to win despite Matt Rhule and his staff's clown show."

No... not what I was saying AT ALL. I obviously know how bad the coaching has been, but damn, we're losing by 2 and 3 points every week.

You might have missed the quote but in Rhule’s PC, he was asked why we didn’t see Higgins or TMJ. He answered that we didn’t need to make changes, we just needed to keep battling.

That is a dinosaur way of thinking in my opinion and it’s a major issue with this staff. I get they’ve spent all week game planning and they want to make that game plan work, but too often than not, today’s NFL coaches wait entirely too long to make adjustments and in Rhule’s case, he doesn’t make them at all.

I have no idea at ALL why we haven't seen Higgins. He made a lot of huge catches in Cleveland for Mayfield... head scratcher for sure.

Two losses in two seasons to two different NY Giant coaching staffs. Yeah it's the coaching.

Well, I think that's the way I'm leaning too for sure. But, it seems there are two camps here, one that says it's just coaching, the other that says it's coaching PLUS it's coaching and we do not have a roster to win, partially Fitterer's fault... I'm just sort of playing devil's advocate. I honestly think Fitterer has made sound decisions (for the most part).

Players do have to step up, after all, I can’t blame Rhule for Hubbard fumbling and for Shi Smith dropping passes… but I can certainly blame him for not making changes.

Without any sort of changes, the Panthers had a chance to win todays game. Just imagine if the Panthers coaches didn’t put Hubbard on kick returns, or if Rhule gave TMJ or Higgins a chance, or if McAdoo didn’t abandon the run in the red zone, or if Snow didn’t drop Burns back into coverage every third down.

These players can only be as good as the situation they are put in and as of right now they are being put in shitty situations.

And I guess that's what I am asking, is it mostly just the coaches being THAT inept at putting our play makers in a position to make plays? Because if it really is, Rhule should be fired Monday honestly.

  18. First and foremost, as a disclaimer, I AM NOT defending Rhule and Co. Their situational play calling obviously speaks for itself game after game. This team is losing too many close games. Some of the things I see, and try not to fry me too bad, these are just my opinions, are: I remember back in 2015 when Cam had his MVP season, Panthers went to the SB and we were on top of the world. Even then, our offense would be very inconsistent at times, the difference being, DEFENSIVE play making ability. Real simple, Panthers won the turnover battles and it wasn't even close. How many times did they leave the offense a short field or score themselves? Today the Panthers gave up the ball on the opening kickoff and opening offensive series spotting the Giants 6 points, lucky that's all it was but it was the difference in the game. Frankie Luvu had a pick six go right through his hands! Panthers are not forcing enough turnovers on defense PERIOD! Conversely, they are not making enough big plays on offense.

What I see is a team that does not have enough big play making ability yet, minus CMC and maybe DJ on offense, same can be said on defense. Brown had a good game and Burns had 2 sacks, but Burns needs to be a CONSTANT disrupter, much like TJ Watt or the way Julius Peppers could just take over a game, and of course Luke. Seems like Burns doesn't make big plays in the biggest impactful moments, yeah, he gets his numbers, but when? This team desperately needs big time play makers on the field MAKING big time plays, yet we're just not seeing that. We saw Anderson last week on offense and we saw CMC bust one and DJ come up with a couple of big plays today, but we need it on both sides of the ball more consistently when it matters most. I guess the team needs more passion? They need to be more clutch, IDK? Is that just a product of coaching? Not putting players in that position? I'm sure it plays a part. But what happened when the Panthers went down the field on offense and took a 13-6 lead? The defense let the Giants off the hook. A turnover there... stripped sack, interception, forced fumble, could have given the offense a short field with momentum and COULD have changed the whole game. AGAIN, (coaching disclaimer) the coaching staff could have screwed it up IDK. To me, it just seems like this team (the players) are not stepping up in the moments they need it the most. Defense held Giants run game to 0 net yards in first half, 103 in the second half, and no forced turnovers! The Panthers need play making leaders on the field making plays in those moments that determine the games. Most NFL games come down to a 1-3 turnover margin and/or 1-3 KEY plays.

I'm as sick to my stomach as all of you at the constant just coming up short, all the losses piling up, and I realize there's way more to it. Sundays suck anymore as a Panthers fan. I do not like some of the situational play calling by the coaching staff, especially when we get in the red zone. No, I AM NOT a Rhule fan by any stretch, but at some point players have to step up. Just my opinion.

All I hear is excuses why we lost….again.

This is the positives from today post. Yeah, losing sucks, but I see a lot they can build on. It's a young team that has to learn how to win these type of games, and honestly they should have despite being manhandled. Lets see how the next few games go before we throw in the towel.

Did Rhule show you something when calling timeout at the end of the half gifting the Browns of 3?  Did Rhule show you something when he insanely misused CMC with 4….get that 4 touches…in the first half. Did Rhule show you something when he went straight conservative with 1:28 going run run run???  3 years of this ass clown. It’s over.

Dude, we fumbled the snap on first down making it 2nd and 11. We then ran CMC hoping to get 5  or 6 yards, he got stuffed. Was then 3rd and 11... obviously the Browns knew it was a passing down and we could not risk a turnover, HAD to have the FG. The fumbled snap on first down killed our chances at playing for the TD there pretty much. Our defense and the freaking refs are what cost us the game... ONE freaking sack when the Browns got the ball would have probably won the game for us. But they just could not get to Brissett... they have to get more pressure, all there is to it. Could have even forced an errant  throw to force an INT.

  21. I think there were some positives to take away from this game. Cleveland has one of best if not the best defenses in the league, especially their front 4 on defense. Those guys are great! I think the biggest take away from this is that you can see that our revamped O-line needs a little time to click together along with the entire offense. I honestly liked what I saw from Mayfield, he just didn't have ANY time to set his feet in the first half. Garret and company was dominating our O-line, all there is to it. Big time players make big time plays in crucial moments, and despite the slow start Baker Mayfield showed that he is a playmaker when given time. He put the Panthers in position to win the game when they probably should not have been. He made some plays that brought the Panthers all the way back and give them the lead, against that top 5 defense. Mayfield is a warrior and he showed it.

I think once this offensive line starts to gel, and I think they will, this offense will be deadly. I think Mayfield is THAT QB we have been looking for. Honestly, I was shocked that the Panthers took he lead at the end. That 75 yard bomb to Anderson with 6 minutes left in the game was MONEY! Mayfield is a fighter, he reminds me a bit like Delhomme. NOW... Panthers defense HAS to find playmakers! They had nowhere near enough pressure on Brissett, and tackling was atrocious. They need way more push with the front 4. The Panthers defensive squads that made it to playoffs and the SB years FORCED turnovers! For this defense to have success this year they HAVE to pressure the QB consistently, stop the run and force turnovers in crucial moments. Our DE's HAVE to be better. Seems like the only move Brian Burns has is a spin move, he has to play to his potential.

This is just the first game out of 17 and honestly... I still see a lot of potential with this team. They just have to come together and BATTLE. the offense showed that today, obviously some things to clean up, but I believe they will gel. The defense concerns me a bit because they just seem too undersized to stop a good running team. Secondary will be fine, but our front 7 has to be way better than what we saw today. Still... I think there is still reason for optimism. I saw plenty of positive's today. For one, I think the Panthers have a real QB now. Yeah we lost, but the fact that they were in a position to win a the end says a lot and was because of that QB. I feel like they will get it together moving forward. The Browns defense gave us the test we needed today to do just that. It's just week one, both SB teams lost this week.
