If Bryce is Purdy level in 3 years.. tag, trade and start back over
I wonder if Team Bryce realizes that this year he is playing for his next contract; that this is make or break for him. If he doesn’t shoot the lights out this year, I don’t think the team passes on the QB’s coming out next year.
Better won’t be enough to keep the team from drafting another first round QB. We’ve given him the tools, including T-Mac. No more excuses. He needs to look like the number 1 pick.

If the escort rumors are to be believed, seeking "professional help" is what got him in this problem in the first place!
Sure didn’t help Deshaun Watson. I was thinking more along the lines of a psychiatrist or professional counselor.

She was reported to have caused some trouble during a recent interview as well.
Current rumor surrounding her is that they met because she was working as an escort, but I don't know that there's any actual evidence supporting that theory.
Regardless, she does seem to be giving off some "Lady Macbeth" vibes.
As much as I hate the Patriots, I can’t take any joy or satisfaction seeing Bill crash and burn like this. He needs professional help.

This whole discussion reminds me of the scene in the movie 'Moneyball', when Billy Beane is sitting in the room with his highly skeptical scouts. "He gets on base."

Didn't our current GM make a brief appearance and dickheads dragged him for his pizza joint and history of head injuries?
Some people just don't deserve good things in life.
Some of us ate there. I had no complaints.

so last night my daughter who is playing softball had a parents vs daughter softball scrimmage. i grew up playing baseball and played softball for most of my college and adult life up until about a decade ago. i didn't really have any reason to stop, but i also wasn't in any situations to play. i figured, "why not?"
well, now i know "why not?". about 8 years ago i slipped at work and banged my head on the concrete floor. had a concussion that was pretty bad for a while, but that was a long time ago. the only lingering thing going on is that i have double vision, but i'm used to is. i've adjusted....or at least i thought i had.
i played catcher (one of the positions i used to play a lot) and i got up to bat. both ended up being terrifying. apparently when you've got double vision, it also affects your depth perception. i couldn't see the ball coming. well i saw it, but i didn't know where it was. i got hit once and i thought, "ok. i'm done."
i'm talking to my wife about it and she says, "well, you're probably never going to play softball again." that's a sad realization for some reason. well it was in the moment. then my thought was, "i really have to pee" and i was over it.
point of all that is, getting old is...... interesting.
thanks for letting me share.
Waiting now for Ortho Carolina to schedule my knee replacement. I feel you.

Ransom isn't being brought in to be the free/boundary safety. He's coming in to be the back-up and eventual replacement for Trevon Moehrig as the strong/box safety.
Moehrig's current deal has his cap hit leaping from $7.2M this season to $21.3M next season and $22.5M in 2027. He can be cut then though to save $16.5M.
Ransom being a day three pick means that he's going to have to cut his teeth on special teams and be ready to rotate in if Moehrig goes down.
I believe that the team is still looking to bring in Blackmon to be the starting FS, but could see them opting to see what Demani does as the starter.
Thanks. That clears it up for me. Much appreciated.

Both of our safeties can play deep in cover 1, 2, 3, 4. They can read run quickly and they take smart angles. They can cover most RBs and TEs in man. Before, we had some Willie Mays playing Center field 20 yards off the ball.
If that is true, then I’m liking this pick a whole lot more.

Because Chinn couldn't cover
And Ransom? I don’t follow OSU so, I have only seen the highlight videos and write-ups. He is a heat seeking missile in run defense but questionable in coverage. I really hope that assessment is incorrect and he comes with coverage skills but, the write-ups I’ve read list coverage skills in the ‘weakness’ category.

If we can generate a pass rush we won't need all world safeties back there
I understand the theory but if that were true, why did we let Chinn go and didn’t we just draft Chinn V2.0? If Evero couldn’t figure out how to use Chinn effectively, what is different about Ransom? Not trying to be argumentative but, make it make sense

I think the Evans pick is under appreciated. I think he will be our TE1 in 2026.

I know that highlight reels are always ‘best of’ but this guy could be the real deal at TE. Effective blocking inline and great hands across the middle of the field. He could be starter in year 2.

Maybe, maybe not. You cannot assume these rookies will be able to start right out of the gate. The run defense could actually get worse for a while before these rookies get up to speed. But given how bad it's been I can see the benefit in just ripping the bandaid off and letting them earn their strips under live bullets all season.
Just to clarify, my earlier comment was specific to Clowney and Scourton and not an argument for starting all or most of the rookie draft picks. It is an assessment (probably wrong) where I am balancing 1) rebuild year, 2) cap management, and 3) my perception that Scourton is already starter capable, if the expectations aren’t too unrealistic. Yes, the run defense may suffer initially but I think the long term benefits to the team and his specific development are greater than the short term potential step back in run defense at that one position.
This may be my only post in my 20+ years here on the Huddle where I am arguing for taking risk, as I am congenitally risk averse. Anyway, I appreciate your measured and thoughtful counter argument.

You hang onto Clowney as insurance and part time work. With as much dead weight as they have in that room there are easier cuts.
They look to be feeling overconfident IMO.
True, but that insurance has a cost that can be avoided (in part).

I'd consider cutting DJ Johnson before Clowney. He hasn't shown anything in the 2 seasons he's been here. In 27 games he's appeared in he has a half a sack. He will also be turning 27 in October.
Clowney at least fills a role of having a veteran with some success in the NFL with high draft pedigree. If I had to choose between the 2 I'd choose Clowney. I don't see Johnson developing into a solid starter.
No disagreement with cutting DJ Johnson. That was a terrible ‘need’ pick and should be the poster child for why you should draft BPA, not need.

I’m usually more risk adverse but, I’m wondering if it doesn’t make sense to rip the band aid off, trade or cut Clowney and start Scourton. Unless he just seems lost in camp, let’s throw him in the fire and get him real three down starter experience.
We are still in the rebuilding phase, not the ‘win now’ phase.
