For being as rich as he is he's just a regular guy just like the rest of us. I think fans forget that sometimes.  He wasn't born into privilege, he earned it the hard way. That I respect about him. But he's going to have to figure this football ownership thing out because he's wearing out my patience with him.

I think he’s still struggling and hasn’t come to terms with the idea that it is more difficult to be a successful NFL owner than to be a successful hedge fund owner.

On paper and in hope, everything looks much better out there for the wideouts. And let's not forget Thielen who still has it and was our steady performer even when opposing teams knew he was all we had. Heck, give that guy some breathing room and he'll turn out an even better year.

We need, need, need help at TE, though. That TE room is pretty mundane at best.

Better line, better receivers, better get some performance out of Bryce and we'll be better than before.

We did not set a high bar to jump over to count ourselves as "improved."

Nice observation on Thielen.  I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves.

Someone else has pointed out that Canales offense doesn’t appear to feature the TE in the passing game much.  If Canales wants a feature TE, I’m sure he will be whispering in Morgan’s ear about it.  Just my opinion.

This may be the influence of the Bryce camp, an expression of what they want.  I believe I read on some post here (Huddle) that Bryce’s father was pounding the table for Legette.

I hope this is wildly wrong.  If true, we are so screwed as a franchise.

Just a quick internet scan shows several articles humping the same claim that Bryce’s father wants Legette…

Player aside— To have this type of tunnel vision again is concerning from the GM.

Wanted to bump this thread bc there is definitely a misperception with corners going on around these parts, especially a modern slot defender.

--so here's my attempt to sell it--

The Texans, who we're all slobbering over building how we should have, started their rebuild around Stingley (3rd overall) and a certain sub-6' Baylor slot DB in Jalen Pitre (at 37) who's been awesome.

SEA has w/DROY finalist Devon Witherspoon who is rotating in and out of slot (monster year), the Lions just took Brian Branch high, CJ Gardner Johnson has been rolling the past few years...

Most notably, Trent McDuffie is the best in the game and a big reason why KC won the SB, Jalen Ramsay popularized the refined roles for a versatile slot defender role, but the crop of these guys are all 6'0 and under, playing al over the field and heavily in the box.

They also because super important in the 2-high shell defense we run.  With lighter boxes, run support is critical.  They need to cover the middle of the field, man up against larger slot receivers and TEs, and not to mention get mixed in as a blitzer.

Just go check out Sainristil's HUGE game saving play against OSU's 6'4 250 Cade Stover and some of his monster run stops over the season.

It is also a critical position for Evero's defense bc this guy is communicating just like a LB and it's why I sense why Chinn wasn't quite a fit--he just didn't have the presnap mentality we needed in this regard.  You need to be a coach on the field in a Kuechly-esque sense.  I think it 10000% makes sense why we're considering Sainristil.

    Ok, table pound over.

In my fever dreams we select the next James Bradberry but, your argument for a slot corner is persuasive.

early in the draft process trice was getting 1st round buzz too, then for no reason I can can find, he's dropping. He had a decent combine/pro day and interviewed well too....must be some agent BS or medical stuff.

Trice did a post combine interview and mentioned that he puts mayonnaise in his coffee.  It was all down hill from there.  /jk

I'd do not understand that both verge and zod had a three year run of getting the 1st round pick right, then the first time they missed.......non-stop tard comments about the miss and they totally forgot the past three years. I know its near impossible to guess a 25th pick, but I remember shaq being his guess. Just insane the whole deal.

Haven’t seen Verge post in awhile.  Hope we see something between now and the draft.

If the right edge rusher is there. Then and only then do you pick a position other than WR. Of course that assumes one of either Ladd or Mitchell are still available. Either would be BPA at position of extreme need.

Though not likely, based on mocks that have been posted, the following names have been available at 33…

    Chop Robinson

    JPJ / Barton

    McKinstry / Wiggins

    McConkey / Mitchell / Coleman

Who is BPA in the above list?  Given the Panthers roster woes, does it really matter which of the above list is chosen at 33?

    Haha well, appreciate your honesty.

You can see Wiggins was considered in my alternates as I have him graded similarly, but Worthy, Tampa, Nubian..they’re more late 2nd for me. The one position-selection stigma this year is safety. Any GM taking a safety before #50 this year is on something. The value just hasn’t been there..for the past 5 years.

Worthy I don’t want to touch personally.

Kneeland is a fringe 1st grade for me. ~34 overall so not a reach for me, but respect your opinion. Cheers.

This is the template for how to disagree with someone without being argumentative.  Well done!

I'm curious to see if there will be a few waiver wire additions this year. We fund ourselves at the front of the line so might as well take advantage of it since we're here.

    The forgotten ‘second draft’.

Burns is a very good athlete. He'll beat OTs that aren't technically sound. If he had to play Icky twice a year, he'd have an easy 5 sacks in those two games alone.

He needs to become a more consistent tackler and be more under control at the point. He probably misses just as many sacks as he makes. Like gets there and then misses the tackle. Plus, once teams start running at him, he starts to lose interest in the game.

If my offensive tackles were weak in pass pro, I'd run right at Burns the first 3 drives. He'll give you 5+ yards a run, easy. You can even get fancy and use a TE to kick him out. And that's if he doesn't just get too far upfield that he takes himself out of the play. Yeah, he's not worth 20M+ a year. He just isn't.

Ding, ding, ding.  We have a winner!

We could still grab a WR via FA.

The waiver wire may have more of an impact this year on how we tweak the roster.  There may be a starter or backup quality players cut from other teams.

[My response is not necessarily WR specific.]
