No sweat its on topic and reinforces why i asked my question to begin with.
I've got no issue with any of those guys in the draft. My point is that they are backups at best as first year players. As of now if Wonnum starts, who's his backup? Dj? OK. Roll the dice. The other side? Chaisson, even in college, was a third down specialist. Who is starting? Him? Laughable. A second rookie? Also laughable.
In order to have even competent play we need a mid level player opposite of Wonnum. That allows you to bring these other guys along. Otherwise, why do anything in free agency if you are going to leave such an obvious weakness? We will get smoked on passing downs.
Final roster cuts may present acceptable options but, I hate going through preseason unsure of who might be starting opposite Wonnum.
Don’t forget that we pick first on roster cuts.

Pearsall vs McConkey, who you got?

McConkey. Very polished route runner, great hands, gets separation, 2.7.

I would be happy with this draft. Please don't copy/paste whole articles, the link is fine
If both McConkey and Robinson are still on the board at 33, I would be hard pressed to pass on McConkey. Both positions are needs but McConkey seems a very polished route runner and adept at separation, something I have heard mentioned in a positive light lately…

I mean that's exactly what we did with Everette Brown lol I know it's easy to psychologically repress that traumatic memory as Panthers fans. That wasn't even a particularly high 2nd round pick either (43rd pick), which makes it even sadder.

Probably. I think Purdy is a step up from Bryce and Tua another step up from Purdy but I think they're all in that category of QB that you're hamstringing yourself when you have to pay them like a legit franchise QB.
And therein lays the hope (or curse), if there is any. Bryce will have to re-sign with the Panthers on a cap friendly deal. Any other team will see and understand what the Panthers had to do to build a system around him, and the cost incurred. He will be a special situation QB, for the right system only. Who will want to sign him for Josh Allen money? He won’t even get Tua money.
Point guard.

Great write up. I’d pie you twice, if I could.

If we don't pick up a solid edge in FA it feels like we have to pick an edge in round 2 even if it's a bit of a reach
There will also be cut-downs before the season opener. As a team, we have a poor record when reaching. Hell, we have a poor record when not reaching.

I want him but I certainly don’t want to overpay for him.
We need to pitch him on the chance to get in on the ground floor of a new dynasty.
….
What? Matt Rhule said this works great in college, why not the NFL? /s

In Juan we trust.
If he embeds properly, that is.
How someone embeds is a very personal, private decision, and I won’t pass judgment on someone else’s choice. I’m a monogamist myself, but what Juan does in his own personal life, well, live and let live, I say.

The term is ‘projection’…. Take it as an unintended compliment.

You get the sense Evero has a lot more input on personnel this year. Maybe something he was promised to convince him to stay?
I think he was staying due to contract but, giving him more input on personnel is a very smart move, to keep him motivated.

So we trade D Jackson for D Johnson and sign D Jackson.
No wonder I get confused

In a complete rebuild year, no one should be ‘safe’ except, perhaps, D. Brown. That said, it is interesting that people are so glib about getting rid of the only sure handed, ‘move the chains’ WR we had last year. We signed AT to be a Ricky Proehl clone in the slot position. We got more out of him than we should have reasonably expected. He did not take plays off. He was not a locker room cancer. Amazing that there is no ‘love’ at all for what he did for the team last year.
It is a rebuild year so, replace him if we can do better. No one should be safe but, show a modest amount of appreciation for what he did for the team last season.

We’ve finally started a proper rebuild. Too many holes on this roster so, trading up into the first is a ‘no’. We need to get two starters with picks 33 and 39.

Tremble is the starter at TE. Would we like better? Sure but, he’ll have to do this year. Perhaps he surprises and continues to develop into the long term solution. Some players take 3-4 years to come into their own; this could be the year. Maybe.
Corbett at C is an experiment and Mays is still unproven. Time to take a C in a year when there are some very good options.
Mingo will have to be WR2 this year. Time to see if Mingo belongs on the roster or not.
Since we are finally (finally!) doing a full roster rebuild, we really should be drafting BPA at 33, 39 and R3. If we are drafting for need, Edge, Corner, C. Start all three on day 1; this is a rebuild year.
Low cost FA’s and later round draft picks will have to be our depth and the 2-3 positions without obvious starters. This is not a one year rebuild. Bite the bullet and do it right this time.

Meant to say, ‘waiver wire order’, not ‘roster cuts’. Mea culpa.
