Honestly I kind of want pick 33. It’s a good trade pick because teams have all night to look at who dropped beat it might take to get them. Say Penix or McCarthy is sitting there, I could see a team trading up with us for one of them. Similar to the Titans trading up for Levis last year. The Bears getting that top pick is embarrassing, but is the long term for us it doesn’t matter if they get pick 1, 2, or 3.

Agree with this one, I’d love the 33rd pick if we can get it.

It's Tyreek Hill at the moment, IMO.

The 49ers had McCaffery but missed Williams and Deebo and lost games. It's goofy to include RB's in the MVP discussion anymore and especially on the 49ers.

Lamar would be far better here than Bryce, that's not a question at all. Even under the pressure Bryce gets, Lamar would be scrambling ans making plays with his feet that Bryce isn't capable of. That's why he is so hard to defend(same as Cam, Vick, etc), you HAVE to account for his rushing ability AND his throwing ability. If you cheat one or the other, they are going to hurt you.

I agree with Hill, McCaffrey and Lamar being the clear top 3. Their teams are depending on them and they could be dropped in on any team and would immediately raise the level of play on those teams. And that is what the MVP should be about.

For the life of me I could never understand why the Panthers switched to a 3-4 defense when most of the players were more suited to play in a 4-3 defense.

I naively thought Burns would turn in to a game wrecker in a 3-4, I was soooooo wrong.

I think they just went for the best DC, and his system happens to be a 3-4. There was obviously not a single second spent on what systems the new coaches would bring meant to the roster, painfully clear in Franks case.

Oh you must have missed the anti-Bryce crowd from day one that wanted him to fail.

Go browse the preseason and early regular season game threads. They are pretty obvious.

Same as every offseason, we have that group of idiots that care more about being "right" on their hot takes than they do about anything Panthers success related.

Such a sad existence as a human being. "I WAS RIGHT! I TOLD YOU ALL AND I WAS RIGHT!!!!"

    Meanwhile....team loses.

These people are very few. Most people were just acknowledging the fact that Bryce looked really bad. He struggled to get zip in his passes, couldn’t feel the pressure, could read the defense etc. His surroundings were really bad but so was he. But anytime any criticism was mentioned the “you’re a hater” army came running in full force, “didn't you see that one elite throw he did (that most backups in the league can also do)?” It’s not anti Bryce, it is the reality of what he’s shown most of the season. I hope he becomes a world beater, but he’s looked awful for most of the year. Hopefully he can build on the last game, and that my friend, would be really exciting.

It was exactly the type of performance he needed in a lost season with his back against the wall. I’m hoping he can build on it over the next two weeks but I’m still skeptical.

good to see growth today and he takes some licks and just keeps on getting up. Have to admire and appreciate that about him.

Agree with this, really fun game today. Now we need to see it again, until he can string a few together I’m not sold, but hopefully he can.

Could, but likely won't.  It depends on how many teams need a WR1 versus other needs.  He definitely has a round 1 grade.

No offense, but pulling the “he will be gone by our pick” already in December is hilarious.

  7. This from Dianna Rossini of the Atlethic is potential great news:

“In Carolina, owner David Tepper has taken hit after hit around the league for meddling and creating a culture of fear, but a league source said Tepper has been self-reflective, blaming himself for almost all the mistakes made this season. The source said, “He’s incredibly accountable and ready to make it right. He’s rejuvenated.”

For a man worth billions of dollars who is paying two coaches who aren’t even working, that should be a positive sign to Panthers fans. A league source said Tepper has his eye on Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who was his first choice last hiring cycle. Johnson is a native of western North Carolina and a former UNC walk-on quarterback but turned down a chance to continue conversations about the Panthers job last year because he didn’t feel ready to take over as a head coach. Now, the source said, Johnson is ready and is expected to have options.”

  8. Adding to that is that he plays close to 100% of snaps, which is crazy at his size. And the effort is always 100%.

Him and Luvu (and potentially Horn) are pieces to build around. They are also great for the team culture.

I like Burns, but we are better off tagging and trading him, using that money to overpay a top WR and O-lineman.

  9. I think of a game manager as someone that excels within the system but maybe doesn’t have a lot to offer when things break down, a complementary player is missing etc. e.g. when Debo Samuel was down, Purdy didn’t look as good, when Cam was missing someone he just stepped up his game. Game managers are also great at avoiding mistakes, they usually don’t cost their team a win. So it is not a bad thing.

2 of the top teams in the NFL are led by Tua and Brock Purdy...

I don't think that argument is the slam dunk you think it is.

Every single pundit out there said the same things about Tua (probably even more than BY9 b/c Tua was almost out of the league due to concussions), and Bryce has proven himself to be much more durable physically than Tua.  It's amazing how the narrative changed around Tua once they gave him legit weapons.  No one says he too small now that he has an offensive line that can block and receivers that can get open.  And Purdy just fell into the best starting situation in the NFL.

I am in no way saying there is not potential validity in your argument, but there is also plenty of evidence to the contrary right now atop the standings in the NFL.

Would you not agree or do we not live in the same reality on this either?

I think it is ok to disagree. Purdy and Tua are both 3 inches taller, 35lbs heavier, have stronger arms and have great deep ball accuracy. Would Bryce do better in those offenses? Yes for sure. But it is extremely hard to get that set of skill players. You still believe in Young’s potential, a lot of us do not. And that’s ok. We all hope he will turn it around. I’m a Panthers supporter, I’m rooting for the team. I want the Panthers to win and I don’t think Young is the player that can take us there. But I think the language and behavior on both sides of the argument is disappointing.

BUT the night and day demeanor in the post game presser after all the loses and then after the win yesterday is a huge positive for Bryce. The dude was literally happy as hell after that win yesterday and his stats were not even great. I think Bryce has that special kind of drive in him that will force him to become better. I am not giving up on that kid man.

Not sure how you make the link of him being happy after the win with him having a special drive, but maybe I’m misunderstanding something?

Overall it was great for him, the team, and us supporters with a win. I know I really enjoyed it.

We arent moving on from bryce after 1 year and with no first rounder.  No rational poster thinks this is a reasonable scenario.  However there are a lot of posters that see how this movie ends and it aint pretty.  I think he gets next year and then the new FO and coach have a huge decision to make.   Even as it stands now, especially after watching him yesterday, I cannot imagine there will be many coaches interested in this job knowing you are tethered to Young for even 1 year, now if you are saying he has to be out guy through year 3 thats going to turn off any hot coaching candidate

I do however think we should bring in some type of competition. Young should be able to show enough growth to win the job over someone like Minshew (just an example). I don’t think he should be handed the role as a starter. Hopefully he improves a lot over the offseason and takes and runs with the job next year. I just don’t see it, but hopefully I’m really wrong on this one.

I saw one, exactly one.  He has usually ONE a game.  That's the "flash" people keep referring to.  The sideline pass to Chark.  Great pass, but one a game isn't going to cut the mustard.

It makes me think of golf. When I used to play I always had one or two shots a round that were awesome, but the other 80 or so were just ok.

Bryce has a lot of iffy tape. He also has moments where you really see something special. Talent surrounding him and stability should help bring out more of that specialness.

Do you have examples of that something special? I’m assuming you mean things few other QBs can do?

All his balls take forever to get to where he wants them. I just don’t see how is arm is going to be able to get to where it needs be at this level

That’s my concern as well. You would have to throw with unheard of anticipation to overcome that issue.
