DJ is a model citizen, fantastic receiver and nowhere near his potential. Even with bad QB play, bad scripting of plays and inept coaching, he still far outshines every receiver we have on the team -- combined.

You don't let him walk, or more specifically, you do what it takes to get him to stay. Yes, he is a first rate receiver, but we need him as much for his intangibles as anything else. There's a fair to middling chance we will have an entirely new coaching staff next season, hopefully someone that can actually coach. That guy, and us, deserves a reliable receiver and non-diva team leader. DJ fits that admirably. Pair him with the right QB on top of that and you can make a lot happen.

Is he going to cost us? Yes. And compared to other things we've committed to, he's the only surefire thing we've got going on the offensive side of the ball.

I agree with everything you said.

I would also like to see him being used more like Debo Samuel. I don’t think this coaching staff does him any favors whatsoever. He’s also got speed and is very strong with contested catches, but they seem to never send him deep.

I’d resign him in a heartbeat.

    drafttek

    difficult

    8: R1 P8 OT Evan Neal - Alabama
    105: R4 P3 LB Henry To'o-To'o - Alabama
    150: R5 P8 C Dohnovan West - Arizona State
    152: R5 P10 QB Tanner Mordecai - SMU
    194: R6 P15 OT Dawand Jones - Ohio State
    246: R7 P27 TE Jahleel Billingsley - Alabama

Evan Neal would make for a successful draft imo. If we get a great LT, the rest is gravy.

I have a feeling he might be the 2nd or 3rd OT when the draft comes around. Makes no sense but it happens every year. Just a gut feel.

    1. Potential franchise QB

    2. Potential franchise LT

    3. TRADE DOWN

I'd still field calls if #1 isn't an option.

I agree about the QB comment. I’m sure at least 1-2 QBs will “emerge” as franchise QBs. I wouldn’t be surprised if a healthy Strong is one of them.

That’s the thing, there is no telling. Howell and Rattler were suppose to top this class. Tua was looking similar to Young early in his college career. It’s a bit of a crap shoot.

That’s my thinking. If Corral is there, can we afford to not take him? I’d love a LT, but he might be too good to pass up.

Draft a LT this year in a loaded class and then a QB in 2023:

    1. Bryce Young

    2. Cj Stroud

    3. Anthony Richardson

    4. Haynes King

    5. Dj Uiagalelei

    6. Grayson McCall

    7. Spencer Rattler

    8. Tanner Mckee

    9. Tyler Van Dyke

    10. Kj Jefferson

    11. Jayden Daniels

    12. Phil Jurkovec

Arguably the best class I have seen in a long, long time.

So is any of the above names better than Corral? I don’t know so it is a genuine question. I’ve seen some of Rattler and Uigalelei and it wasn’t pretty. Rattler was benched.

I do love the idea of going for a stud LT and keep Cam for another year, but if Corral is there isn’t he at the level of anyone on that list? And I’m not looking at a side-by-side numbers comparison as most QBs on your list play in stacked teams.

You hear him talk about how John Miller might be healthy again soon as if having back in the starting lineup would be a big positive.

    He does...not...get it 😖

But don’t you worry, Michael Jordan is also coming back

I've read numerous OL guys say the transition from R to L (or vice versa) is actually much more difficult that it would initially appear.

If you've played on one side on the line for many years, when you get switched every instinct you have is completely wrong.  Those decisions you have to make in just fractions of a second take a little longer since you're translating what you're doing for your body.   Maybe if you've been playing for many years it's not so bad but much more difficult for rookies or other young players.

That's why playing Christensen at RG is incredibly stupid.  Rhule is using him like he's a 10 year pro, not a rookie still trying to learn the game (which he is).  Rhule is actually hurting Christensen's development by moving him to so many positions.  Just put him at one hecking spot and leave him there in his rookie year !!!  How hecking much of an idiot do you have to be not to understand that ??

That’s what I was thinking as well, I appreciate the insight. I also like the idea of his athleticism at LG and pair him with an athletic LT in the draft. I’d rather put a mauling guard next to Moton.

I'd like to get a look at the rookie OL.  Still wish they would throw Marshall and Shi out there more too and let him have some of Robby's work.  I don't care if Robby and Cam are friendly.  And CJ Henderson.   That's about it.   Throw the young guys all out there.

And that is what I’m missing, the refusal to play the young guys.

I sat through Jimmy Clausen years. I think I can “suffer” having to watch Brian burns, Hasson Reddick, Cam Newton, DJ Moore, Jeremy Chinn, Stephon Gilmore, Robby Andersen etc etc. What on earth has happened to Panther Nation my goodness y’all we gotta still support our team. Even if you hate Rhule I’m still gonna ride or die for my Panthers.

Don’t get me wrong, still support the team. But success in the last five games will only prolong Rhule’s stay, and that is not a good thing.

  10. I’ve gone from the point of supporting Rhule to realizing he’s a clown. At this point we need to lose out so he gets fired. And I can’t believe I’m saying that, it goes against everything in believe in in sports.

Normally I can take some late wins if they show progress for our young players, improvements in coaching etc. But in this case he needs to go.

I remember the Clausen season. Watched every game, enjoyed small improvements etc, but not sure what to watch for this year.

Hoping to see Cam play well and our young corners to continue to develop. But that is pretty much it. Normally I’d watch for our O-line rookies to improve, but since they are barley playing…

What are you hoping to see over the next few weeks?

  11. Great article in the observer today, here’s a short section:

When watching film of each Panthers game, it becomes a struggle to recognize when a run call complemented the passing game. Simply put, the Panthers’ runs do not resemble their dropback game, which makes dissecting post-snaps plays easier for defenders. Brady’s designs did not put the Panthers in enough advantageous situations either. Instead, he repeatedly asked receivers to win their respective matchup rather than scheming them open. Deceitful tools like play-action throws were a limited part of his offense as well. For example, quarterback Cam Newton used play-action only nine times over the past two weeks.”

We ride with Cam and Darnold next year and look to the 2023 draft for our next franchise QB.  This draft sucks for QBs.

Agree with this. Come draft time I’m sure I’ll talk myself in to a QB. But the smart thing is to pick a stud LT and build the line.
