The 49ers MVPs are Purdys run game, Josh Reynolds drops and Dan C not kicking FGs

Rather lucky than good, the 49ers way

I can only assume that Johnson made it clear in / after his first interview that he wasn't interested in the job. If we're demanding that Young is our starter in 2024 then most established candidates will look elsewhere.
Also I think people get way too tied up in good playcalling O/DCs being good HCs. It's an entirely different skillset.
Canales seem to have a lot of good HC attributes. Ben might as well, but it is always a gamble.

Complaining is their coping mechanism.
I hear you. And nobody is giving any guarantees that it will work, but they are doing all the right things.

There was a discussion in another thread about not extending Tyrek. And this is why, they needed to let him go to build a more well rounded team overall.

Curious, what aspect of Purdys game do you think is flawed? Arm strength? I've been trying to find reasons to hate on the guy but can't lol. I think he is a gamer.
It is early in his career, but he hasn’t been that good playing from behind or missing one of his superstars around him. He’s been fortunate with a lot of dropped ints. He’s really really good in their system, but he’s the, relatively speaking, weak link of that offense.

Hoping Ravens win so we can get the Tills thing finished

Some harsh realities here. Maybe he can "fix" Bryce or whatever, but he's also going to have his head spinning a miles an hour trying to figure out how to be a head coach. We'll see if he gets the right vet coaches on staff to mentor and guide him a little bit. Who knows what exact influence Caldwell had on the staff last year, from the recent Tepper/Campen leaks who knows if Caldwell was also a rat or if he was just sitting in the office eating donuts all day.
You are brave/crazy to put “realities” and Undisputed together.

Tepper is the owner.
We aren't modeling anything after the 49ers. Until we start drafting better nothing is going to change.
They’ve hit on a few aces in the later rounds, but let’s not pretend like they draft great. They’ve plugged a lot of their holes in free agency.

Agree. If people are complaining over this they are just complaining for the sake of complaining. Tepper has essentially done everything one could ask for this offseason. You can disagree with the choice of GM and HC, but from a selection process and restructuring of the org, he has been spot on.

Based on what they did with Tyrek, it will be very interesting to see what happens with Burns. I would bet they won’t overpay him. It will be the first test of the new regime. If we’re building, I’d assume we will try to trade him for assets/draft picks, which is what I’d prefer as well. Sign Brown and Luvu, trade Burns.

Yep. On top of that, the Chiefs won it all that year, without Tyreek.
Yes, good for them to not be afraid to make a tough decision. They are looking at a long runway with Mahomes and are managing their roster and cap accordingly. I don’t see an issue here.

Really like this. Sounds like a 180 from what we’ve done before. Building it the right way with patience.

I didn’t have a “pick”. I wanted them to conduct a legitimate search with qualified candidates. The guy we hired honestly hasn’t even earned an interview. He’s getting way too much credit for Geno who honestly just needed a chance to play again and Baker who actually had a pretty good start to his career and was dumped by the Browns (who might still be playing if they had him).
Instead we get a guy who’s only been in charge of an offense for 1 year and in that year they weren’t really any good. Maybe the guy will eventually be a head coach and I don’t blame him for taking a job he’s unqualified for, but chances are it’s a few years too early on him.
Tepper comes from an environment where a lot of people get hired based on how they look and sound and not the work and he’s brought that mentality here. That’s why he’ll be firing him in 2 years also. This was a hire they had to get right and they failed miserably…again.
They hired an outside firm with a great reputation, has a small team including said firm, the new GM, the owners, the president of football and (I think) Jim Caldwell. They interviewed essentially everyone outside of Bill and Jim. How is that not a legitimate search with qualified candidates?

I have no doubt that Young will improve, I mean how can he not. Unfortunately I don’t think he has close to what it takes to be a high end starter.

My number one advice would be to get rid of Campen

Seriously it is time to give someone time. We have to be patient
Agree with you, it shows it is expected to be a longer term fix. This is the same length Shanahan got with the (at the time lowly) 49ers.

The hard part with Bryce is that we essentially have to completely break him down and re-build him. That is something you do with a late round pick, not the #1 pick. Still blows my mind the whole thing

It’s a very standard org structure that a lot of teams use. So no big deal.

Not sure why people say our process was wrong. We hired an outside firm (a very successful one at that) to lead our search. In addition we included our president of football, our owners and a football vet in Caldwell. Made 100% sense to me.
We decided on a GM and he was a big part of the decision for the new HC.
Everyone might not like the choices, but the process seemed very sound.

Word was they were pretty high on Callahan before the Titans got him. Hence why I fear we panicked here.
It also comes off as a "bidding against ourselves" sort of thing since no one else was pursuing him. There was no need to rush...but we did.
I hope it works, but it might be one of those cases of "more lucky than good".
Did they panic or was he already number one in their list?
