If I had a say in the thing I would force Rhule to live with Sam and let the chips fall where they may. They've dug this latrine deep enough.  It's time to take his lumps with this culture building promise. No more bailouts.

I don’t disagree. If you’re going to publicly preach/lean on an unusually lengthy window of patience by NFL standards, probably a pretty decent time to start exercising it from within.

That would make sense if we didn't have  HC on the hot seat.   Tepper can go to bat for Rhule all he want to, but another sub-.500 season almost forces his hand to part ways with Matty-boy.

I have no idea what David Tepper’s expectations are for the 2022 Panthers, relative to Rhule’s future here. We can certainly revisit their most recent comments.

A few weeks back, Rhule said, while being pitched the gig, Tepper told him “five years” was the window for arriving at “sustained success”.

Tepper recently added “maybe it could be 6 years.”

I guess just trust that for now. Should be interesting.

Which puts us right back where we started only with a better backup.

Kids better put their big boy pants on cause it's going to be painful to watch.

Nothing about this is optimal for the short-term. Darnold hasn’t overcome his bad mechanical habits, and I’m not sure anything short of CMC healthy for 17 games will insulate Sam from that—and even then, he’s limited.

Corral has promise, but he’s a 3rd rounder. We’ll see if he can win the job early and over-perform against the general yr 1 expectations.

Jimmy G is not overly-impressive without the insulation of Shanahan’s scheme, their run game, Deebo taking quick screens, jet sweeps and pop passes. Right shoulder surgery, and has a prior track record of playing about 60% of the time in a given season. Bridgewater-like short-area processor, which is fine, if you can accept the limitations.

  4. Anyway, should be interesting to see how this all plays out. If Mayfield wants to collect a paycheck, and if Watson does get a full year suspension, I would imagine they could work out any potential hard feelings (if such feeling exist, relax) and proceed as initially planned. I do not think Garoppolo would be a particularly good idea for Carolina, considering the portion of the salary they likely would have to pay + more draft compensation out the door. Decent quarterback, but has averaged just over 9 starts a year since he’s been in SF.

I don’t know, maybe just roll with the rookie, and lie in the bed you made on the Sam Darnold front?

  5. Happy Friday guys.

Had an opportunity to catch up with Michael McCarthy from Front Office Sports (reporter who filed the Sean Payton/Panthers article). Made an effort to extract some additional context from his reporting.

Jonathan Alexander (The Observer) stopped by, as well. He was at minicamp today, and shared his initial observations. Some interesting reporting on a number of areas, including veteran quarterbacks, Rhule’s renewed focus, Tepper/Sean Payton, and more.

Thanks for allowing me to share, and I hope you guys have a great weekend!

Seems that absolutely nothing can be taken from this in terms of RAS being an indicator of success.

Yeah, I’m certainly not suggesting there’s a right or wrong way to do things. But I do know a lot of teams value this data. Carolina seems to be one of them right now. But again, no guarantees. Here’s the 2011 draft class, top-32 athletic testing: 6F58735C-34B9-4CF2-954A-33A5E952D090.thumb.jpeg.bc26f794a9d0940ae713c0e90b2a4408.jpegD71AD857-CBFC-4C72-8FBB-FF9A317F6DD6.thumb.jpeg.b1cb1f93d1093876efd6332b890740fd.jpeg

To be fair this was Rhules way in college and he said he would bring that to the NFL. Get the raw athletic players and try coach them up. I think Fitterer was bought in because his views align

    That’s fair.

LMAO. For the record, I don’t see it happening that way. Just trying to keep things in perspective. I’m pretty bullish about his ability to translate in the pro game. (He’s certainly different than Jimmy in terms of traits.)

So this is another bit from Rapoport, this one regarding the Giants picks at five and seven...

Per Rap Sheet, New York knew they wanted Evan Neal and Kayvon Thibodeaux, but they took them in the order they did for a specific reason.

The Giants believed that if they took Neal first, teams would run to the Panthers with trade offers to move up and get Thibodeaux. Evan Neal wasn't expected to generate the same response, so had they taken him first, the Panthers might have gotten a load of good trade down offers.

Would they have taken any of them? With a highly coveted guy like Ekwonu on the board, I'm not so sure. Personally, I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

But it makes you wonder what might have happened.

Is there an even better scenario you could imagine?

Yep. The Jets were a key player here, too.
