  1. President of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan spoke with reporters from the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday. He was asked if the outcome of Super Bowl LIX, in which the Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Kansas City Chiefs through their overwhelming defensive line, served as a reminder for the importance of having a strong front. “Yeah, I don’t think we needed the Eagles game to understand that,” Morgan said with smile. “I think, both sides of the ball, you have to win the line of scrimmage. You have to be bigger, you have to be tougher, you have to be more physical—and that’s what we’re looking to do around here. “We’re looking to build that defensive line like we built the offensive line last season. Give the fans a good product on the field, give us a good product on the field. And we’re excited. We’re excited about the guys in free agency, we’re excited about the guys in the draft, and we think we can fill some of those holes.”
  2. According to Joe Person's report and Dan Morgan's comments; the team will attempt to bring back the following players: Johnny Hekker, Austin Corbett, Cade Mays, Sam Franklin, David Moore while Tommy Tremble will be allowed to test free agency.

  6. - Morgan also offered updates on some of the others among the 21 unrestricted free agents they entered the offseason with (after already extending Andy Dalton and JJ Jansen). - He said the intention was to bring back both center Austin Corbett and backup Cade Mays, keeping the offensive line group intact. And while there's been speculation about Taylor Moton's future because of his cap number, Morgan said the intention was to keep him under his current deal as well, knowing they can revisit it in the future. - He also said that kicker Eddy Piñeiro was going to be allowed to test the market and that they were looking for other kickers after signing Matthew Wright recently. "We are going to let Eddy test the market; his agents can be here; they can kind of see what his value is," Morgan said. "Definitely not going to close the door on that, but at the same time, we will be actively looking." - He said the team wanted to bring back punter Johnny Hekker and were in discussions on that front, that would lend some stability on special teams for a new kicker, since Hekker has experience working as a holder with Jansen. - He also mentioned tight end Tommy Tremble as a player they wanted to bring back.
  7. Dan acquired Mike Jackson for peanuts last offseason, I think he's confident in himself that he can find another low-cost CB this offseason.

  9. Ø Person notes the team would like to re-sign LB Sam Franklin, TE Tommy Tremble, and WR David Moore on short-term deals. Ø Meanwhile, CB Mike Jackson, S Xavier Woods, P Johnny Hekker, and OL Brady Christensen will likely hit free agency. Ø The team has already re-signed QB Andy Dalton and LS J.J. Jansen, however, they are letting LB Shaq Thompson hit free agency and Person believes they could do the same with TE Ian Thomas and K Eddy Pineiro. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6151550/2025/02/24/carolina-panthers-nfl-combine-draft-free-agency-storylines/

  11. Starting off the offseason with the re-signings of J.J. Jansen and Andy Dalton is not exactly exciting. The team just checked off the backup QB and LS positions from their "needs" list with two sensible signings.

  15. Panthers re-signed QB Andy Dalton to a two-year, $8 million contract with $6 million in guarantees. Dalton briefly started for the Panthers in 2024, finishing with a 989/7/6 passing line in five starts before a car accident left him out long enough for Bryce Young to take the reins again. Young shockingly re-established himself as a starting option going forward down the stretch, leaving Dalton to the backup duties. Over his last five seasons as a backup, Dalton has thrown for 7,906 yards, 49 touchdowns, and 32 interceptions in 35 starts. He’ll turn 38 in October. He is probably a mid-level backup quarterback at this point in his career, but Dalton is now at an age where a potential regression is firmly in play each season. This is a fine contract for that level of player.
