A second and a fifth for one of the top players in the League. Is anyone else scratching their heads?

It’s because they have to also give him a huge contract.

We would have gotten a lot more if he were on a cheap contract.

So far the only thing Morgan did is overpaid for OG.  His GM skills lacking.

This team has no choice but to overpay.

    He better nail the draft.

So we’re going to lose Burns and Luvu so we can pay a guard who’s never made all pro or a fuging pro bowl 100 million. This team is a fuging joke hahahaha.

    Keep pounding.

True but he was going to paid either way. Just not sure it was all about the money, maybe it was.

Maybe he multiple similar offers and went to the lesser dumpster fire.

Morgan's job is to get the coaches their guys. I wonder how Evero felt about Luvu and whether he had any say in the matter. Or did Luvu not like our system or was it all the money?

Luvu hasn’t made much in his career. He’s getting older. Don’t blame him for getting the biggest deal he could.

I mean Bozeman is better than a rookie C in 2024.  So are plenty of others.  Might just have to rent a C for a season

If Bryce wasn’t our QB I’d be all for it….

but Bryce had to too rough last year.  New O.  Too many others struggling on the OL.  Rookie C has too high of odds of making it all worse in 2024

    Depends on the rookie.

Either way, center will be a weakness this year. The question is, will it also be a weakness next year.

That would still be where I put by money in FA.  Draft would be all offensive skill positions.

not only has Bryce struggled on his own.  Now he gets another new offense.  Which is never a good thing.  And you just flat out go too many others on the OL struggling to learn right now.

Anyone we get in FA is going to be below average to bad. Teams don’t discard good OL.

I’d rather have a talented rookie who will improve vs a Jag on the decline.

Eh, it’s also just a really good WR draft.  Lot of mocks have one of the Texas kids there at 33…..and in a less great WR draft that kid wouldn’t go 33rd.  He would go higher.

I’d rather the Panther dip into FA for OL help.

The LAST thing Bryce Young needs is a rookie C trying to figure it out while he is still attempting to.  Heck, we got enough already on the line for Bryce trying to figure it out like his LT

A rookie would be rough, but FA is the worst place to find OL. Just not enough of them.

at 33 you probably would be getting the best or close to it center that is on your board.  At 33 you are probably getting the 8ish best wr, so I guess its how the value the positions.   Getting the number one center in the draft, while not sexy, would be incredibly helpful

It would be the right thing to do.

Yeah, Lock is a B tier backup guy. Nothing special about that move. Overall a step down from Dalton, IMO. Not that it is likely to matter. It is Bryce or Bust for the Tepper Panthers.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes to pivot if Bryce flops in year two.

I am guessing he might get the hook before the fans think. I am thinking part of the way through Year 3 if it really goes to poo.

If Bryce flops this year, we have the #1 pick again.

Now, they should build a real team with that kind of draft capital but will probably go for a QB.

  11. I don’t want a player who’s going to come here just because we’re the highest bidder.

Guys like that are not what this locker room needs.

I want players who want to win above all else.

A player like that will go anywhere else if they have options.

With that in mind, our only hope to get a ‘dawg’ is to take chances on guys who need a shot.

    I swear…if we sign check chasers….

The Replacements. I wouldn't mind if they just purged the lot of them save for a handful and pull from other teams practice squads to make a new roster for this season. It's time they do to the roster what they have been doing with the coaching staff.

It’s not a bad idea. Find some highly motivated players for cheap.

    Stack picks and cap space.

End up with a few diamonds in the rough when it’s over.

I wish they’d let Canales pick his own guy at 33. There’s no way anyone can watch all 16 games last year and think Bryce can hang in this league.

I do think they’re going full reset this year. Take on cap hits. Set up for a clean slate in 2025 and let Canales pick his guy. Problem is, next years QB class blows

So this offseason find a WR or two. Fix IOL. See what Ekwonu can do. Then look for your QB again next offseason

If Canales can get anything out of Bryce then that’ll speak volumes of Canales ability.

if they move on from Bryce, they can’t set a time table like that.

If Ickey and the rest of the OL blow, then we need to spend first and 2nd round pick fixing that for the next few years.

    Same with WRs.

Dont get a QB until you have some weapons and can protect him.

    Here is what scares me:

We have to hit on 2 starters, 3 contributing players in this draft with 2nd 3rd and 4th rounders.  A WR, maybe 2 has to hit the jackpot.  In the history of the Panthers since Smith, name a wr we have drafted that was really good-Moore?  any others?

History says we get one starter from this group.

Without getting into the sunk cost fallacy, the team invested too much in Bryce to not make this season all about him.

Give him the best chance to succeed so we can move forward. If he blows then we are in a better spot for a new QB or vet to take over.

Bro, giving him the best chance to succeed means 2-3 new/good linemen and a completely different WR corps.

    Thats not happening.

He might get two of each, but they’ll be rookies or jags.

tanking doesn't fly in football, teams are expected to compete every year. No one who watched the Texans win 11 games in 3 years and then go 10 - 7 last year is going to ok with us tanking especially after the past 4 seasons. Everyone within this org job is on the line year to year and they are expected to win.

    These are terrible takes

There’s expectations and then there’s reality.

We don’t have the talent to compete.

We need many drafts to restock the fridge.

  17. 9 minutes ago, SmokinwithWilly said:

I don't think it will be as hard to evaluate him. The easiest thing to look at is has he worked on his atrocious footwork during the offseason. If he hasn't or it's been a minimal improvement, I think that will tell us a lot going forward.

Footwork matters but a lot of guys have good footwork and still suck.

We need to see what he can do when the OL can hold up for 3 seconds and WRs can get open.

We’re not going to see that next year.

  18. 42 minutes ago, LinvilleGorge said:

Just draft the best players available and work toward building a competitive roster. Next season needs to be all about evaluating Bryce. Can he be a franchise QB? Yes or no. Not "can he be a serviceable starter". Not "can we build a good enough roster to carry him". Can he be a franchise QB? Period. If no, move on in 2025. Don't rage fire scapegoat anymore coaching staffs in the meantime.

It’s going to be very hard to evaluate him fully. The OL will be the same with maybe better receivers.

He’s not going to get a serviceable team around him for another 3 years at least.
