I probably would have become a casual Hornets fan if Cooper ended up there, but the NBA just solidified my apathy for its product. Hornets also got shafted when Lakers got cold feet on the Mark Williams trade. NBA is corrupt and that alien-headed Silver is the kingpin.

Displays of luxury spending like this are the only thing that will wake up the poor peasants currently shouting at each other. At least, that's my only way to optimistically look at this trash.

Steve Smith has a dislike of tall receivers. I feel like Smith's main purpose is to boost up small, lesser-known receivers.
Every time I've heard T-Mac speak, he just seems to have that it-factor vibe. I love how natural of a catcher he is. He's going to make some fascinating plays that's for sure.

Look for Scourton to start and Clowney if he's still here to rotate like he did in Baltimore
Clowney was gassed 60% of the time. If you watched closely, it was pitiful watching our line activity by the end of the game. I'd love to just bring him on the field in small doses. Depth is undervalued by many fans and we've done a lot to fix that huge issue.

LB is weak but they’re being supported so much more in front of them than last season. They should have an easier time this year.

7 is the nfl record for fewest sacks in a season. I bet we give that number a run for it's money
You’ve been on a 24-hour bender of whining. Just log off for a few days so we can enjoy the draft without your Eeyore impersonation.
We get Brown back and Wonnum for the season. And we can still add someone in a few minutes.

Again, I specifically pointed out trading next year's first was bad. I am talking value based on where a player was selected. Pick 15 and pick 26. Both players were a big time need for them and both players were expected to go earlier.
They only had the ability to make that "value" selection by giving up a ton of value. So, it's a fallacy to point to that as a value pick. Doesn't make sense.

If we can get him to approach anywhere close to Mike Evans territory, he'll be a key part of our team. Excited we have a natural catcher with size. Still would like to get a shifty speedster next year, but that can wait.

The Lions are not in a “forward thinking” mode right now, they are in a win a Super Bowl THIS season mode.
I’m from the Detroit area, you don’t understand how much this city is starving for a Super Bowl, they don’t care about the future right now, they care about maximizing their window right now, this season.
So why is Goff signed through 2028? It's because they're building a roster to win now and in the future. You can do both. Having to build up a roster over years and pushing the chips in for one year is a recipe for continual rebuilds with a very high chance of not getting a Super Bowl win in your all-in year.
It comes down to getting a return that is greater than what they value him. You do that by hoping a team assumes the potential you speak of is an eventuality. Also, you look for a trade partner that is in desperate need of skill players who are willing to overpay (e.g. Panthers). Trading him can benefit the trade partner and the Lions at the same time.

That couldn't be any more incorrect.
They can still pick up his 5th year option and then trade him next offseason. They can still decline the option, let him walk in FA next year, and as long as he has a good season will likely bring them back a 3rd round comp. And they could do either of the above and then still franchise tag him afterwards and then trade him for what would be a really good return, assuming he continues to progress and stay out of trouble.
All of this while he's only costing them $5.4 million against the cap and trading him would only get them $3 million in cap savings.
It makes zero sense to trade him this offseason unless they have serious concerns about him or unless they get a godfather offer they can't turn down.
1) This is their last chance to get decent draft compensation. Is that better? A team who trades for a player on an expiring contract (the 5th year option in this hypothetical) is not going to give up much. The trade is essentially for the first right to sign the player to the second contract.
2) Compensatory pick is dependent on net free agency outcome and performance. A potential, late 3rd round pick next year is not as valuable as a 2nd round pick this year. These are forward-thinking roster moves that winning franchises make. I hope that makes sense to you.

And if he improves again this season, $15 million in 2026 would be a massive bargain for a WR of his ability and game breaking potential and something a team with a SB window will find a way to make sure it work for the year. Especially as even if they REALLY can't afford to keep him after that, they can then franchise tag him so they can trade him for a great return.
Goff has a monster arm and combined with Williams speed gives the Lions one of the best explosive play threats in the league, which is a perfect compliment to both Amon Ra as their #1 and their run based offense.
I just can't see any way they'd want to trade him if they didn't have serious concerns about him, likely because of his recent off field stuff.
Because there is a salary cap and he isn't a top priority for them. However, just because he's not a priority for them, it doesn't mean someone else wouldn't value him more. This is their last chance to get any compensation before letting him walk.

They don't have to pay him yet, still have up to 2 more years of control on his rookie contract.
Aren't the 5th year option cap hits still sizeable? Google is telling me it would be $15.5 million to pick it up.

We have to be bottom 5 in the league at draft success. It's miserable to look at that. So much to the point that I had to stop reading the list when it got ugly - which for me, was #3 lol. Yes, Cam was a homerun but also number 1 pick. The rest of that draft...yikes.

This is why teams who sustain success have high rates of starters that come from their drafts. You have to save money by fielding above average contributors on their rookie contracts.

Graham if there or trade back. If there's a top LT or Warren available at our pick, I think we could get decent trade compensation in return.

The only thing that would shock me more would be drafting a kicker with the 8th pick.
Rhule would go with long snapper.

Oh I can see the logic but for a team that is trying to breed a positive culture. Moving on from one of the teams true leaders right after finally turning the oline into a strength might bring the house of cards down
I never even considered the LT situation until this thread was created. I think it comes down to gaining more in value compared to Moton's individual value. If we can get cap savings, another day 2 pick, and lock up a premium roster spot on a rookie contract... that's amazing value. This is what winning franchises do. They continually find ways to eek out extra value to put back into the roster.

Some unreasonable expectations some of yall seem to have had for Year One. This franchise was in a constant state of sucking. It was the worst stretch in franchise history.
The culture has improved tremendously and more than doubled the win total. This is while having a defensive unit that was historically terrible. He still had these random practice squad players buying in and competing despite a lack of experience and talent.
We got lucky.

We've seen so many WR's who have elite competency in the position outperform many heralded high ceiling types that disappoint. Those given the reps primarily on their "potential" do not improve an offense because their floors are so low and they are drive enders whether targeted or not.

Inching ever closer to the 100 poop milestone. I'll be the first to wish you an early congratulations. I think you've earned your retirement from the forum.

This year, there's been enough positive talk from core players, free agents, and coaches to where I believe the culture building and momentum is more important than fighting for a worse record.
