How do you think we fix the O-line?

I have no idea what to think about Ikem Ekwonu. He had a good rookie year but had an attrocious season 2.  Do you swap him and Christensen? Get a LT in free agency and move Ikey to LG?? Its truly baffling at this point.

Its not realistic to think we could replace everyone but Moton this offseason.

At the very least we are going to need some very serious depth at the interior positions. Corbett and Christensen have gotten injured two season in a row. Having the two starting OGs missing for most of the season and having scrubs play there probably didn't help, but we also so Bradley Boseman have a really bad year as well. I'm willing to say that the only person on the line that had a decent year was Taylor Moton.

This was  really REALLY bad year to not have a 1st rounder.  I'm thinking we might be best off trading down from the first pick in R2 and picking up another 2nd  or 3rd to get more ammo.

Summary of contract situations for O lineman:

** Not implying that anyone will be cut, just getting the info on the page:

    - (LT) Ikem Ekwonu (23) :   7.5 million in 2024 against the cap.  Has 2024 and 2025 left on his contract, cutting him  would be a hit of - 8.7 million against the cap
    - (LG)  Brady Christensen (27) :  1.6 million in 2024 against the cap. will be on the last year of his contract in 2024, and could be cut for a cap savings of 1.3 million
    - (C) Bradly Boseman (29): 4.0 million  in 2024 against the cap. His contract goes through 2025, and could be cut for a cap savings of 360,000 in 2024.
    - (RG) Austin Corbett (28😞 10.0 million in 2024 against the cap. Contract goes through  2026, but 2025 and 2026 seem to be voided years. -1.5 million against the cap if cut in 2024

    - (RT) Taylor Moton (29): 30 million in 2024 against the cap. Contract goes through 2025. Could be cut for a cap savings of 5 million in 2024.

Personally, I'd get spend a ton of time scouting o line and get two solid ones in the draft, hopefully at least one of them ends up being damn good and has some position flexibility. Not sure what the FA Oline looks like this season, Im not sure we have the cap space to pay Brown, Burns, Luvu, some others, and get a big name OL.

If I am paying someone I would pay Luvu and Brown. Brown was a beast in the 34 defense this past year.

I am also intrigued by Macdonald, but then I wonder if that was the path why not just promote Ejiro. Are they really that different of candidates?

I understand we had problems in the Back end this year due to injuries, but I just don't think he is ready to he a HC. We need to see this team get settled under a good DC before they are shipped off. Let's see how he does for 2 years in establishing this team as a 34 defense before thinking he is a head coach. Heck Tepper might not even keep this one for a year either.

In an effort to get a realistic field of head coaching candidates I did a bit of research and projecting.

    1) First, I listed all the reported candidates as well as a few of the bigger names (Belichick, Harbaugh, Vrabel) and organized them by type of hire.

    2) Next, I went through and projected the HC for the teams in need based upon current rumors and other connecting-of-the-dots.

    3) Finally, I eliminated candidates that seemed to be getting courtesy interviews (Internal and Rooney Rule candidates).

    Here is the initial list:

    Former Head Coaches

    • former Patriots HC, Bill Belichick -> Predicting as Falcons HC
    • current Michigan HC, Jim Harbaugh -> Predicting as Chargers HC
    • Cowboys DC, Dan Quinn -> Predicting as Seahawks HC
    • former Titans HC, Mike Vrabel

    Offensive Minds

    • Bengals OC, Brian Callahan
    • Buccaneers OC, Dave Canales
    • Lions OC, Ben Johnson -> Predicting as Washington HC
    • Eagles OC, Brian Johnson (satisfies Rooney Rule)
    • Ravens OC, Todd Monken
    • Texans OC, Bobby Slowik -> Predicting as Titans HC
    • Dolphins OC, Frank Smith

    Defensive Minds

    • Panthers DC, Ejiro Evero
    • Ravens DC, Mike Macdonald
    • Rams DC, Raheem Morris (satisfies Rooney Rule)

    Internal Candidates

    • Panthers Interim HC, Chris Tabor

The remaining candidates are shown in the poll. Which would you most want as the next Panthers Head Coach?

    Ravens DC MacDonald

Well he grabbed a sack today.  Final 2023 stats:

    32 solo tackles, 8 sacks, 15 TFL, 1 FF

Worst statistical year since his rookie campaign.

    -

Is he a better asset than Montez Sweat? Is he worth $25 million+ per year? $20m?

How do we navigate his situation? Word was beginning of season discussions were around $27m/yr

Seems to me that is average but he was learning a new defense this past year. I would sign Brown to the money. I was not a fan of Brown when we took him but he has worked his butt off and he seems to thrive in the 34 defense this year.

Many people here don’t get to celebrate Bryce…stay off the bandwagon haters

we have a right to our opinions when he wasn't playing well. Since the Atlanta game where the commentator diagramed how the Defense was playing him and why his receivers weren't able to get separation. We have noticed a different style of play calling from Mr Brown.

Its Hubbard, then everyone else.  The defense as a whole stood out, but the only individual player I might choose would be Brown.  We shut down Atlanta's run game, and he was a critical part of that.

On the last drive, Hubbard pushed the pile on one first down, and then ploughed for another, and those two plays were, along with Chark's catch, the critical plays of the game.  Plus we had around 300 yards of offense today, and Hubbard was responsible for more than a third of it.

I don't disagree, but the snapper and the holder never get any love. Today's weather made it even harder to do it right.

  7. The snapper and holder on the field goal attempts for snapping the ball in such poor conditions where it needed to be, and having sure hands and setting the ball correctly so Eddie could make the field goals. If you never been a long snapper todays weather is terrible is making sure you get it to the holder with the right spin and location.

We're the worst team in football. I'm far more interested in seeing an attitude of "fug these guys" being instilled for the future than trying to seal a win tbh. I think, odds are, we win regardless. That being the case, let's see just one run up the gut to pay off Hubbard's effort all day potentially.

As I said they needed the win and on a rainy day you take it as it comes.

We got the win. Cool. But I never want to experience this kind of win again. Never again do I want to watch us struggle to do anything offensively for four quarters and rely on defense alone to keep us in the thick of things, including a timely RedZone interception.

Never again do I want to see us actually have an impressive drive that sets us up to win where we ACTUALLY end it with refusing to try for a TD from the fuging one yard line when your run game is hot.

No balls. No pride. No desire to be great. But absolutely fine with doing just enough to skate by. Tabor can be gone forever at this point. Bitch mentality from any coach. This isn't like just making it into field goal range and not wanting to fug it up. It's the goddamn goal line.

It is what it is. A "WIN!" An ugly win is just as good as a pretty win. I would have loved to see them at least try one run at the end zone, but this team needed a win badly, and the way things have gone this year we didn't need a turnover when we had the chance to win one. 3 knees and a made field goal made sure we got it.

We have a historically bad QB at helm. I'd say that's 1000% more important to fix. We can't risk him not drastically improving, we have to bring in someone to compete, bc they're not letting any aging vet compete.

I don't disagree but heck Young is .500 going up against those who were drafted this past draft. The one to beat him was not even drafted. We do need another QB who can be worked with in case Young doesn't improve next year. We saw what happen with Corral. Still at 33 we need a young CB cause Horn and Jackson are too iffy to play a full season.

Too many holes. BPA and hope BPA falls on QB, O-line, D-line, WR, DB, LB, RB in that order. Have to get Luvu under contract and either get something for Burns or play him out 1 more year on the tag.

I say DB. Jackson is old now and Horn well he doesn't like playing the whole year.

It's a big part of why they won't sit him. They're gonna look even worse if Dalton comes in and plays considerably better. The time to play Dalton was after he looked way better than Bryce when he played in week three. At this point the season is sunk so why bother? Just keep trotting Bryce out there and repeating the mantras. Bryce will be fine. Bryce will be a good NFL QB.

I said sit Young after the Seattle game and I was laughed at for even making such a comment. You could see in the preseason he had no business on the field. This is the 2nd QB we have picked that wasn't NFL quality. Corral and Young. We could have saved those picks if they had done their homework.

    It's coping.

You know what was the right decision? Throwing to wide open Tremble because the Cowboys busted the coverage. He was literally completely uncovered.

At some point you have to start accepting reality and stop making excuses.

Bryce doesn't have the arm strength to throw that pass. It is a lame duck on a string, and everyone knows he is going to throw it. He doesn't look down field when he is flushed and looks for that 5yd flat pass.

This season is supposed to be about developing Young, not wins and losses. Leave him in and let him play and learn.

Not what I saw the other week up in Chicago and the fallout afterwards. Tepper thought with Bryce he had the QB he needed to win. The only thing he is doing is making sure Chicago has the first pick in the draft this year.
