Wow. I'm more optimistic this year, but wildcard, wow. Its a pretty hard schedule. If we wildcard, CMC will be a candidate for comeback player of the year, Horn for DROY, and Burns DPOY. Brady will be snatched away and Rhule and Fit will be heralded as geniuses for the Darnold and draft moves.

5 Carolina Panthers players facing an uphill battle at training camp

I don't think he is injury prone. There's just so much talent in that room. Panthers WR Brandon Zylstra discusses determination to get to the NFL (usatoday.com) -

As I'm thinking about it, Zylstra could very well beat out Kirkwood and Simon. Man that WR room is crowded. -

I have never seen Grier play well for us, ever....preseason, regular season...he just looks bad. PJ looked great in the Lions game until those ints in the ez. Then he just fell apart in the Saints game. He has to get that under control. -
Unfortunately, I have to wish we were wrong, and Darnold balls out. The jets were so bad at every level of the game (worst oline, wr's who couldn't separate or catch and a horrible scheme). At one point, they literally had trouble snapping the ball. What’s causing the Jets’ ‘snowballing’ snap issues (nypost.com) If ever there was case where a QB's talent was hidden under the pile of crap around him....this was it.

While talking about roster, here's an article from yesterday on Daley: Carolina Panthers OL Dennis Daley facing a critical training camp (catcrave.com) "Daley was unable to take the field early in the (2020) season due to injury. This prevented him from participating in the campaign until Week 7 and there were further complications for the former sixth-round pick to deal with after Carolina’s Week 11 outing against the Detroit Lions. This inevitably saw Daley placed on the reserve/injured list prior to the Panthers locking horns with the Washington Football Team in their penultimate game of the season. ...Daley has experience operating as a guard or protecting the edge. Something the Panthers absolutely love judging by their recruitment since Rhule’s appointment. He was thrown to the wolves as a rookie, giving up eight sacks and conceding four penalties when Daley clearly wasn’t ready to see the field....Daley should make the roster. Carolina isn’t blessed with great depth and it’s going to take the likes of Deonte Brown, Brady Christensen, and perhaps David Moore time to make the adjustments needed to forge successful careers in the NFL." If we only keep 9, I don't see us keeping Daley over Moore at this point. Daley needs a really good camp.

Unless Moton plays LT to the level he plays RT. He has before for us. The Lions didn't even need him, they already had a LT, they put Sewell at RT. I think they put a all those guys together on a shelf. The run on tackles in the 2nd round caught us with our pants down, it looked like we were literally praying when the Bengals picked. It appears from Panthers Confidential that we were targeting BC as a key pick for the OL and we got our guy. Tepper was absolutely elated. I think we were surprised that Deonte fell into our lap, and the potential there is huge. I essentially wanted the Bears draft. Fields in the first round, Jenkins in the second. They zigged, we zagged.
-
They are rated so low by everybody, they have to be underrated or we're going to need more than 3 QBs. We have added some great depth, just not standout LTs. Moton to LT and BC to RT may be the goal. We may start the season Moton LT and Erving RT.
-
Yes, but start where? He has played every position on the line. That is one cheap vet FA LT contract. He has to stay healthy and win it, which is a big if. He's already hurt. We kept 9 OL to make 53 last year. Just deciding which 9 to keep isn't easy. Here's my guess: Make the Team 72 Taylor Moton T 75 Cameron Erving T 60 Pat Elflein G 61 Matt Paradis C 70 Brady Christensen T 78 Trent Scott T 67 John Miller G 77 Deonte Brown G 68 David Moore G Practice squad or Cut 65 Dennis Daley G 74 Greg Little T 71 Sam Tecklenburg G 66 Mike Horton G 62 Aaron Monteiro T 63 Matt Kaskey T 73 Martez Ivey T If we put Moore on the PS, someone will snatch him.

As a sophomore BC played against USC, Washington, Utah and Tennessee, and allowed a total of four pressures. He has battled 1st rounder Payton Turner from Houston. He was a 2020 consensus All-American, with the best 2020 pass blocking grade among OT in this draft class and allowed two pressures on 293 pass blocking regular season snaps. BC may bust, but it is a myth to say he didn't face any 1st rounders or any p5 teams, or that it even matters because Moton was a very similar draft prospect and performed just fine. Moton was 64th G from Western Mich U with a RAS of 8.46 23yr old @season start BC was 70th T from BYU with a RAS of 9.84 24yr old @season start

Don't forget Scott, he started a couple there last year and didn't look too bad.
-
Even with Erving continuing his improvement from last year and Elflein scraping off the jets stink... That looks like we'll be rolling right a lot.
-
Moton didn't start a single game his rookie year. I hope we can ease BC into starting.

If Cam does get benched for Mac, will you be on here posting how you were wrong?

link:Panthers 2021 season opener countdown: 70 days to go - Cat Scratch Reader Back in May we wrote that at least one analyst was pegging Christensen in as the Panthers’ starting left tackle. CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso named the rookie Christensen as his number six “instant impact rookie” heading into the 2021 season. Here’s what Trapasso said: But only two weeks ago, Sports Illustrated suggested that Christensen could end up starting at right tackle, seemingly paving the way for Panthers franchise tackle Taylor Moton to move to the left side. “We think he’s a right tackle,” Panthers head coach Matt Rhule told Sports Illustrated. “He certainly has the ability to be on the left but I think most of us would like to have more length over on the left side. So, he’s playing right tackle but I think he can be a guy that can go inside and be an excellent guard. I’ve been really pleased with him and his ability to play tackle. When we drafted him we thought, hey, there’s a guy that’s going to find a place to play and I feel good about him out there.” It could mean one of two things, noted Sports Illustrated. “One, Christensen will be stuck sitting behind Taylor Moton until they feel like they could use Chistensen’s help more at guard. Or they plan to groom him into the starting right tackle role and flip Moton over to the left side. However, Rhule also stated earlier in the week that despite giving Moton some reps at left tackle, the plan is to keep him on the right side. He’s been so dominant at that spot and has played there for so long that switching now would be very difficult.”

Could Taylor Moton become the Panthers' left tackle permanently?
SBBlue replied to SBBlue's topic in Carolina Panthers
One more thing, when we drafted Moton, he was listed as a Guard. -
That address stops by the line, but a lot of run stops are done by fast LBs (like TB). I think Tremble tremble will help get to that second level. One of BC's strength is getting to the second level as well. With CMC's vision and shiftiness, I hope to see a rebound in YBC.

And even then, Cam made it fun. Ahhh good times.
