I don’t get the urgency to invest in center after signing $150M worth of guards with Corbett still around. Lots of centers convert from other positions. Why would everyone have been cool with it if, say, Barton converted coming out of college, but it’s a problem now that Corbett’s doing it in the NFL?

My concern is injury. I don't doubt he can be at least serviceable.

Corbett is the only viable option on the roster  and coming off 2 knee injuries. I don't believe you can ever rest on your laurels when it comes to OL.

I don't think anyone would be cool with assuming  the Duke guard can be a starting C from the get go.

  2. I believe some here interpreted the idea he has size and tighter hips to mean he is a bad route runner. I can't find anything saying he is bad at route running.

The most negative things i find say he will need to further develop route tree. But that there was generally positive things to say about his vertical route stem and indications he could build on the more precision route concepts.

There is absolutely no defending the Wallace pick.  None.  It was an INCREDIBLE reach based solely on athletic traits.  Most boards had him between 150 and 234.  We took him at 72!  SEVENTY TWO!!!

Depending on which board you follow, there were at least six or more LB'ers rated higher than Wallace on the board when we drafted:  Payton Wilson, Trotter Jr, Cedric Gray, Jordan Magee, Nathaniel Watson and Curtis Jacobs.

Boards are meaningless. The respected sources were high on him.

I think we're more likely to find a backup C option later in the draft than we would get potential impact rotational (if not starters) at other positions with this first pick in the 4th.

Take a CB, TE, Edge/LB, and they have a better chance at contributing this year than if we take a Center, who we can take later and/or look to pick up a training camp cut as a backup.

Is contributing this year the primary goal at this point? Or building  a roster ?

Actually, the weaknesses in his draft profile (avoiding blocks and needing to play with more passion and energy) says not a dawg. If you think Kuechly was a dawg, Wilson is probably your guy.

Linebacker is a defensive position. The goal of a linebacker is to avoid blocks.
