Sounds like the pelicans want Scoot and the hornets threw Zion and Ingram out there
Very well could be!! No telling how this will shake out but it could grow to multi team and a ton of players. Then again after Monday, they may really just want to make the pick but at least we have options to improve the team!!

Yep both Budenholzer and Doc Rivers are available and would be immediate upgrades to help develop a young team like ours.
Forgot about Doc but definitely either!!!

Yes they are still meeting with MJ. Also MJ still has a small minority stake of the franchise. He will still be around the Hornets just no longer the top dog when it comes to decisions.
Maybe the new guys will spend more money and take more risk.
I also wonder what this move means for Clifford.
The Clifford thing is the biggest component!! Isn't the Bucks ex coach still available? Think so... regardless I'd love an upgrade!! I know Mitch probably wants to keep Clifford but we need an upgrade at coach. Maybe MJ will become more of a financial backing type minority owner. Hopefully these guys collaborate and form a dynamic structure to succeed!!

He will still oversee operations through the draft and start of free agency. Article also says he will keep a small stake in the team.

I saw that and has me wondering about the draft. Ironically this comes out and at the same time reports of the Pelicans not trading to 2 or 3 come out. Do Brandon n Scoot still meet MJ Monday? So much to think about going into the draft next week.

Yeah I just thought about it when I saw the report.
MJ meeting with the 2 future stars of his franchise.lol
It's kind of realistic as well especially if they don't think Melo/Scoot can play together. Maybe we get something extra on top of the #3 pick you never know.
Well I think Melo would be worth the 3 plus so that'd be the hope. I'm pretty sure that if we do pick Miller, it's a high chance that we still trade with Portland and The Pels in a 3 way to where everyone gets satisfied. Too many scenarios but I wouldn't be mad at a Scoot and Miller future to be honest. It has nothing to do with how good Melo is... but the prospect of him leaving eventually like most do. I also could see a scenario where Melo has great success with the roster too tho. Mitch just has to be a lil more aggressive now.

Nobody has brought this up but is it possible they trade Melo to Portland and end up drafting Scoot/Miller at #2 and #3?
Hence why we meeting both players on the same day this Monday.
Just thinking outside the box lol.
Bro... tell me why that crossed my mind lol but I'm gonna assume they gonna stick with Melo but man that'd be wild lol

Looking at the salaries the Hornets can open up serious cap room coming up.
Including Oubre like 50 mill after next season
Ball will be a max contact so he will eat a lot of that provided he stays but still we have flexibility for moves

Posted the other comment twice but I will say after watching Scoot highlights and workouts, I could see him in the Donovan Mitchell roll too. He has a very similar game coming in to me. Miller has Ingram written on him to me. Why I'm not mad at either. You got points about 1 or the other needing the keys but maybe they could make it work.

Yeah kind of suspicious he hasn't sold the team yet.
If we hit on Miller or Scoot he may just keep his majority ownership stake.lol
Exactly!! Lol now he is having a meeting.... That man don't want to quit yet lol. He probably sits in the bed at night thinking just that. Man, what if 1 of these dudes really hits. Then you just saw Denver win it all and they are basically a 2 star team with roll players. Heck, even Miami roster aint that great but they all buy in to good coaching. Regardless, we will be a better team post draft than before barring some weird mess.

I'm starting to think MJ is having cold feet about selling the team. Scoot and Miller both have upside to become all stars and the trade calls may be deeper than we know. Regardless of what we do, I'd think we would be a better team next year.

Melo/Ingram/Bridges/PJ/Williams is not a bad core.
That and I'd also like to get Trey Smith the 3rd. Dude has big upside!!!

Right now it would be for Ingram, another player and the 14th for the 2nd and Hayward if Charlotte bit on it. Think that's the only way it happens.
I would take that 14th pick and get Anthony black. If we got to pair with bouknight or another pick. It'd give us a 6'6 2 way point guard that could operate behind Melo and be insurance if he goes down or leaves. Dude has mad potential!! Reminds me of Shai coming out.

I wouldn't call myself a "diehard" Hornets fan but I've probably watched 30-40 full games the past 2 years despite the team sucking and bits and pieces of others despite being out of market, so maybe I qualify...
My thoughts are you take Scoot and see if it can work with the two of them (I think it can). LaMelo is an RFA in a year and we should be able to keep him on the next contract without issues the way the NBA cba is set up, so you keep him and try to make it work for a couple years. If they just can't work together then you can trade one of them, which one depends on so many different things that we just don't know right now.
I don't worry too much about LaMelo wanting out IF the team can get to a point where they're a legit playoff team. The next 1-2 years are especially critical in that regard. Having 2nd overall pick and a chance to take an elite prospect in Scoot, getting LaMelo's buddy Miles back (likely on a relative bargain because of the legal issues), and having a healthy Melo and some of the other young guys developing could have this team in the playoffs as soon as this year. But we also have to see what plays out with a potential sale of the team and from there any changes to the front office/coaching staff. I really hate that we hired Clifford last year as he's not the guy to lead this team out of the gutter and having him here next year could cost us. But we shall see.
Valid points and the Clifford one still gets me too!!! A young team with development needed and we brought in the vet lover. Honestly another reason I think they may trade the pick if MJ sees an avenue to cash in. I'm not down on the thought of Ingram because his game is steady improving. I like both Miller n Scoot but with Wemby being a lock... our pick is officially on the clock and calls coming in galore I'd bet. Have to at least hear what's out there and see if you get a Rudy Gobert trade package.

I know Miller is a great talent but recently I read where there are some issues with his game translating to the NBA. I hope we take Scoot.
Here's a question for you diehard Hornet fans. Do you take Scoot and package Melo in a trade? Revamp the whole team based around Scoot. I like Melo but I get this feeling that when his time is up here, he is going to want out of Charlotte.
Thoughts
I thought about that with the thought he will want to bolt at some point. I'd like to try and build around him but I think all options need to ne looked at!

Don't overthink this, just take Scoot 2nd.
To trade with NO it would have to be Zion+ coming back and that seems unlikely and is a huge risk for the Hornets with his health (would need to do some serious due diligence and be convinced he will change his off court habits).
Nah I don't think it'd have ti be Zion... it us way too much risk vs reward for a guy who has played 113 games in 4 years. I am open to decent scenarios if it nets the proper talent. You have to at least see wgat you can get if it's a bidding war for 2. Otherwise you go with one of the 2 prospects but we could reshape the roster swiftly with the leverage from 2.

I read that Portland is open to trades. New Orleans could work a deal with them, contingent on us drafting Miller.
Yep I saw that but all things run through the number 2 pick. Everyone knows Wemby going 1.... so technically Charlotte is running the draft and everyone has to hit up Charlotte 1st. If Charlotte takes Scoot... Portland won't be getting as many calls. Ton of teams want a floor general.

I can appreciate the effort here. But I just can't sell myself on trading for other teams leftovers as being the recipe to end our 20 year playoff series win drought. Why do the Pelicans (New Orleans yuck) any favors? They've already been gifted two first overall picks within the last decade while we sit at zero. If they are targeting a particular prospect heavily at 2nd overall we should take that prospect ourselves and keep it pushing.
I understand and trust me, I like both rookie prospects but I think the Pelicans understand that contract of Zion has hit them hard and that team in the west won't make it. Plus Brandon is only 26 with a developing game. Murphys upside is there too. Add in the 14th pick and there are more opportunities to land an all star player and 2 high upside players to boot. I did read that Scoot wowed Mitch and today is Miller's, we will here more soon.

Also.... Mitch drafted Ingram....

Forgot to mention whoever they decided to pick at 14 ( possible backup guard for Melo)or we could use 14 and 27 and move up to get back into the top 8 to select a target. Or use 14 and 27 to go get another young piece on the trade block.
-
With the Pelicans fighting others to get to Scoot and the Hornets smitten with Miller... I had to do some research. Looking into the potential of getting Brandon Ingram and Trey Murphy and pick 14 sounds like something I'm warming up to. Trey Murphys game has Miller written on it and I think his upside is on par with some solid 2 way wings. I say Gordon, Terry (allows us to get out both contracts and give McGowan more burn)and pick 2 for Ingram, Murphy and pick 14. Possibly even bring Jose Alvardo in for a backup pg too. That's give us a starting lineup of
Ball Ingram Murphy Miles/Pj and Mark Williams. Easily one of the top starting 5s in the East. Take a look at Murphys Game for those who don't watch him. A high flyer with 1 of the highest 3 point percentages in the NBA last year.

I really hope we would hire another coach but MJ is still on board kinda. If we stuck with Cliff again... so be it but I feel it's better options still available to push the new era forward.
