So, can’t speak for certain without knowing exact info, which I honestly don’t care to involve myself in. But 100% sounds like you’re being scammed.

it may be worth talking to a local agency to see if there has been a similar scam around. You also may need to consult with an attorney with regards to breaking contract with your current realtor.

you should be asking a bunch of questions in a very stern manner and I wouldn’t pay a dime unless I was fully satisfied.

People don’t do $5k worth of work and then ask for it all at the end. No reputable contractor does this, part of why I think it’s a scam.

Yea, there is much much more that made me think that also.

I can say I have learned a lesson here, and I will be teaching my children how to not make mistakes like this.

Overall, it cost me $2,800 and a temporary lapse of sanity.

I absolutely chewed out and fired my realtor, then sternly spoke to the mold remediation guy.

I am just glad this is all behind me, the $2,800 being the collateral.

  2. UPDATE:

Politely asked him for a more detailed invoice.

He replied with some of his logic and justification but I think he could see where it was headed.

He told me $2,800 was fair. I told him if he sent an invoice for that I would pay right away and not ask anymore questions.

He sent it to me about 5 mins later and I paid it right away.

I think it turned out the best possible way.

    Thanks for the advice!

And there's where you work it. Start by saying, "Help me out here, what things am I being billed for? Could you please itemize the services? Then ask them to resend the invoice for payment."

Once they do that you can pick out the things that didn't get done... You have to get them to set the playing field, but only after you've led them to it.

And when negotiating any of the items, always be apologetic and say things like, "Yanno, I don't remember that this service in line four was done, can you help me with that?" Always ask them to help you and you will make a lot of way on this.

And never say you will pay until all of the negotiated prices are delineated in the invoice that you agree to. Then, pay it quickly and include a note saying Thanks for working with me on this.

Ok, I’m going to lead with this.

I really hate dealing with people SO much.

Except that in this case, a judge would ask you, "Did his workers go into your house?"

    "Well, yes, they did."

"If they weren't working for you, why did you let them in?"

    Case closed.

    Hmm ok.

I think I am just going to dispute and negotiate the bill.

It is not very detailed or itimized IMO.

Yeah, he has legal basis to charge you the bill and then to seek remuneration for it. Your best bet is to try and negotiate down the price and then settle it. Chalk it up to experience.

This is just really bizarre to me, because in theory, he could just whip up an invoice for anyone and take action,

Wth is Tommy "Jone"? There is a Tommy John surgery, which is elbow. See Brock Purdy. Am I missing something here?

It is a joke from like 10 years ago on the huddle when Delhomme got Tommy John surgery. Someone misspelled it as "Tommy Jone".

There is also the infamous "for peak's sake" mistype that caught fire.
