Have not heard of this guy -- but here's the pick:
Jaden "Big Baby" Crumedy DT Miss State
6'4 301
Profile Link:
https://www.nfl.com/prospects/jaden-crumedy/32004352-5523-6813-a20b-aee47516f2d9
QuoteOverview
Four-year starter with adequate size and impressive power at the point of attack. Crumedy plays with top-notch pad level off the snap and through the rep. He's not quick enough to consistently play into gaps but does feature quality knock-back pop and can handle himself against double-teams. He's slightly below-average as a pass rusher but above-average as a run defender and should continue to improve with better technique. Crumedy has the potential to become a rotational lineman in odd or even fronts.
QuoteStrengths
- Four-year starter with plus power at the point.
- Maintains proper pad level and features jolting knock-back power.
- Good transition from anchor to quick disengagement to tackle ball-carriers.
- Possesses physical tools to align as interior defender in even or odd fronts.
- Shows ability to dent the pocket with pure power.
- Consistent in mirroring pocket movements of the passer.
5th-6th Round Grade on most sites and big boards
5-tech/3-4 DE
Per Brugler (paraphrased): If you grade the flashes, not many guys have his athletic movements & power potential combination at the position. Needs to be coached up to become more consistent.

Unless we sign Gilmore and Horn is healthy all year he’s likely a starter for us next season. Especially if you consider the nickel corner a starter.
Hill, Scott and Dane are all respectable with experience inside and out. May not be well known but they’re Evero guys. Heck, even though Scott is a bit of a journeyman, he started a SB for Evero’s DB group in LA.
So they know the defense and are capable vets if no newbies shine.

He seems to be a small Donte Jackson with an attitude. He could play in the slot but seems too short to play against taller receivers on the outside. I like the dog in him but wish it were a pit bull instead of a beagle.
He at least looks above some recent King Charles cavaliers we’ve been drafting lol

Just an FYI folks:
Evero's Denver Defense -
Surtain - the stud CB
Damarri Mathis 5'11 - outside (4th rounder)
K'waun Williams 5'9 - NB (UDFA)
Evero's Ram's Super Bowl Backfield -
Ramsey - the stud CB
Darious Williams 5'9 - outside & slot (UDFA)
Nick Scott 5'11 - slot (7th rounder)
David Long 5'11 - slot (late 3rd)
Pre-SB:
Our own Troy Hill 5'10 - used in a few spots
And now here:
Horn - the stud CB
*Troy Hill - 5'10 - see above
Dane Jackson 5'11 - outside & slot capable
*Nick Scott 5'11 - see above
Smith-Wade 5'10 - outside & slot capable

The best ones are the comment that they've never heard of him but compare him to some other underperforming player. How do you know that if you've never heard of the guy? I swear I think people do not listen to the words coming out of their mouth.
Captain is the go-to undersized DB fans of this fanbase refer to when they see anyone under 5'11. They don't realize how high a percentage of corners in this league are in fact 5'11 and under and how variable they can be that play box heavy/in the slot.
Not to mention Captain peaked pre-defensive modernization where 5-6 DB subpackages took over.

Go look at drafts from the last few years. The reality is it's hard to find starters at this point. This wasn't a reach.
If anything, DBs later on is a spot that we've been able to find more than others, historically speaking.
Bene, Munnerlynn, Norman, Worley, McClain (did well elsewhere)

I think they will play him at nickel but he can play outside. I think this is a good value pick and will be good depth.
He'll definitely compete for slot snaps in dime and quarters. Starting NB will probably be Hill vs. Dane unless this kid can be a bit of a diamond in the rough.
Can see us scooping up Gilmore to get the perimeter corner. Should settle out the DB room.

I guess Morgan got his dog chau

Chau Smith-Wade
5'10 184
Big Senior Bowl noise maker, Hard-nosed competitive personality. High football IQ, tough as hell
Chad Reuter's pro-comparison: Asante Samuel Jr.
90%+ snaps outside corner in college -- for the NFL, he likely stacks up playing slot in dime and nickel. Reminds me of Darious Williams, one of Ejero's top slots used at previous spots.
PER NFL.com:
QuoteOverview
A slender cornerback with plus athleticism and speed, Smith-Wade is a capable defender in zone or man coverages. He’s below the desired NFL mark on height and weight for an outside cornerback, which could hurt his draft slotting. Smith-Wade is a sticky man-cover corner when he gets into the receiver and he has closing burst that can make up for lost ground. He can be feast-or-famine in zone coverage, as he tends to look to jump short throws and loses his deep-cover responsibility. He could end up outplaying his draft slot due to his ball skills, competitiveness and athletic traits.
Per PFF:
QuoteSmith-Wade is the manifestation of the phrase "It's not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog." His lack of NFL measurables limits his potential as an outside cornerback, but his short-area movement could yield a starting role in the slot.

We took a 4th rounder in the 3rd and a 2nd rounder in the 4th. It all worked out
Wallace had 3rd round grades online, and clearly had a high grade with our staff so I don't know if I'd qualify him as a 4th. Overall range was 3rd-4th. It at the least is far removed from a DJJ situation

Damn - I like the 49ers draft. Pearsall and Cowing are great adds.

Do wonder if any of these QBs could be good backups/emergency guys if sh*t hits the fan.
Pratt, Travis and Rattler aren't too shabby of prospects.
-
Van Pran, Limmer & Nourzad are still there at C that could fit our zone looks
Rice, Malik, Gould, & Cowing at WR
Carson, Myles Harden, Brownlee at DB (about to hit a cliff IMO)
Kamara and Murphy at EDGE - some sneaky good developmental pass rushers. Big Murphy fan even if he's undersized. I trust that program.

Also look at the last 4 remaining teams last year - Kelce, Kittle, LaPorta and Andrews. Having a great pass catching TE can put an offense over the top.

Center and Malik Washington. Then call it done.
Add a shifty slot burner to this WR room and it is very well rounded

Damn great pick actually
Morgan finally just picked a player that was on top of a typical mock draft board.
JaTavion Sanders was an extremely common fan pick in R3/R4 particularly in a lot of mock drafts.
If you swapped out that LB we got in R3 for Trotter or Gray this draft would be a slam dunk.
Trotter is available for a reason. Being an off-ball linebacker with such deficiencies in coverage is not appealing.

Should be great of the jump as the flex TE, is basically a big receiver for us. Tremble can continue his progression from a hybrid into both hybrid & in-line role. They fit very well together.

DB was picked to death on day 2. There's not a lot of value there.
There's a few left I've had my eyes on - Jarvis Brownlee, Mustapha, Carson, Abrams-Draine, Josh Newton, Myles Harden. We'll see!
-
Honestly, let's just trade up before the talent drop. It's not like our 6th or 7th is anything special. Have (2) 5ths next year as well.
Go get the DB you want. Or C.

We got the WR we wanted from a huge promising crop, the RB1 and many people's TE2. We've got Bryce weapons, that's for sure.
