Let's Go!
Ja'Tavion Sanders TE Texas
21 Years Old | 6'4 245 | 1.59 10 yard split | 4.69 40
Notable Rankings:
TE2 on most boards, 2nd-3rd Rounder on The Beast
Dynamic TE prospect - Think a more physical Evan Engram/Gerald Everett type
Per PFF:
Quote- True athlete for the position, as his long speed, acceleration and change of direction are all All-Pro caliber.
- He moves like a giant wide receiver — can run any route.
- Has the intangibles to be a good blocker but just isn't physical enough at times.
- A lot of his snaps came from inline, which made him a very tough seam and vertical matchup for defenses.
QuoteSanders is a Tier 1 athlete for the tight end position. He is still mastering the nuances of tight end play, and he needs more of a mean streak consistently as a blocker. However, even with those concerns, what he brings to the table as a vertical threat is worth a top-50 pick.
Sanders, a former five-star recruit, looks like a super-sized athlete. Coming mostly from an inline or wing-back position, he is a constant vertical threat and a mismatch for most linebackers in coverage. His hands are reliable, as he did not drop a single pass in 2023. His explosive movement skills allow him to run routes like a receiver.
If he wasn’t on a team that also included Adonai Mitchell, Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittington, he could’ve easily been a 1,000-yard receiver. He possesses all the tools to be an impact blocker, as well. His tape does include snaps where he lacks the necessary blocking physicality against smaller players.
2023 Stats: 45 receptions, 682 yards, 2 TDs

I wouldn't mind a guy with a really legit mustache.

Very evenly spaced out w/so many acquired through trades. I think we were a bit more intentional with our moves than Morgan let on.

I think there's a few things they take into consideration (not exclusively or in order):
1) what he brings today
2) what he can bring tomorrow
3) is he coachable
4) does he have that dawg in him
I do think that the greater focus and weight, though, needs to be and probably is on 2-4 of those. What they can bring day 1 is important, but you've got to have a longer view than that.
We want day 1 starters (which is why I think some are pissed), but what's more important is that they are long term big time contributors.
I think they took the long term view with Wallace, but I also think that we will see flashes of why he was taken when he was.
Which is what we saw in a the other LBs we've taken and who have taken on dominant roles over the years.
Thomas Davis was a frustrating (for fans) project initially because they couldn't decide whether he was going to be a safety or linebacker. Beason and Kuechly both started off on the outside.
Point is, they didn't start off in the role that they were initially planned for ...and it was ok.
Another good example being Navorro Bowman his rookie year learning behind Takeo Spikes. Once Fangio and Evero took over there, they coached him up and he became one of the best duos in the league with Willis.
Had a season behind Spikes and then put the league on notice.
Trevin has a year to learn behind Shaq and then get fierce.

So many Huddle doctors on here apparently. Every injury is different with different rehab and turn around time. Hell Rodgers blew his achilles and could have played in the post season if needed.
Yup. I'll take the player himself's word for it haha

Jarvis Brownlee Jr. FS/NB could be a dude that surprises as a selection. Similar to Cobie Durant who was part of Evero's backfield.

Thanks for the info. I like this kid, seems like a promising dude and he should be ready for the year.

For an ACL? There are different types of tears too. He was apparently clean and he is already running on it. Should be ready by July 1st per Ian R.
That's per Brooks himself in his intro presser too. He sounds ready to go.

Malik Washington & Caelen Carson would be my two biggest wishes from the remaining crop. Who knows, maybe they finally get a guy I like lol. Never seems to happen ha.

Everybody says “I just want them to draft BPA” until they don’t draft whatever player some mock draft says is BPA. One thing that is clear to me is that they are drafting BPA according to their own board, rankings, and evaluations, because RB and LB were certainly not the biggest needs. Most people here, myself included, just have draft crushes on some specific players based on extremely limited information. The teams have 10x the information we do and are looking at 10x the amount of players. That’s not to say they always get it right, it’s more to say the average fan getting it right is more akin to a dead clock being right 2x per day. And you really have no idea, if you were talking to Payton Wilson’s doctors and examining his medicals just like the team is, or sitting through the interviews, or getting direct information from a team of scouts, you may find yourself agreeing with the team more than you think.
Very important point.
At the end of the day, this is their work and they're in charge of bringing the right guys in after interviews. From a fans lens, we look at the field play and interviews here and there and just hope for the best guy from the outside looking in. But it is absolutely critical they get guys that mesh best with their approach, culture, locker room. They're building a workplace.
They have their board with their blocks and they're drafting based off that. We'll see if they got some guys that stick this year.

Canales was 11 heavy much like Carolina last year so we should see an abundance of 3 WR looks.
I would assume to start the year Johnson and Theilen are locked in most snaps. Then he rotates everyone else through the same spot. Mingo, XL, Moore, and whoever is else. So limited looks for all.
But that’s what I just want them to trade Thielen. Think the pros outweigh the cons
As good of a presence Thielen is for the locker room, his lack of speed in the slot hampers us. It's also why I could see Malik Washington or Cowing as much as Brenden Rice or Javon Baker if we go WR today.

I’m just going by the math and stats. Football players and sports always talk optimistic. It’s also the draft. The average is the average. Everyone is different.
he doesn’t need to be a day 1 starter. Heck even without the injury he probably doesn’t need to be that. I see no need to rush him out and have him be a week 1 starter on our wonderful turf.
Ha fair - he's a guy I'm hyped about so that's where my optimism comes from. Overall, he's a pass catcher, quick cutter, big play guy that could have a really nice rookie season for us.

I'd rather trade up to get another 4th. We're hitting a fringe in the draft and would prefer landing impact over camp bodies. 2 guys to compete for playing time + 1 camp body > 1 guy and 3 camp bodies

I don't expect XL to start. He's not on the field for 12 personnel.
For 11, he'll get abundant snaps but he's not starting Z or Slot early downs.
He'll still a lot of snaps but technically speaking, not starting.

ACL on average takes NFL players 49.7 weeks to return to the field. Brooks went down mid Nov. 56% that return re- injured themselves in 10 weeks.
Brooks probably shouldn’t be a day 1 starter. Even if he is trending on the early side of that average and young. Carolina should move slow.
Brooks himself confirmed he's already running and will be ready for training camp come July. There's diff types of tears and a 6th month recovery for a clean tear linesn up.
If that's the case, I think he's getting snaps immediately and that could be bulk/majority by midseason worst case.

It was painfully clear they wanted XL and Brooks. They made it happen while collecting a 2nd next year. Wallace is more than likely an Evero guy who will learn from Shaq this year and hopefully take over next year. He is raw but has everything you want in a ILB for the 3-4 defense we run.
Precisely. He's a really good fit. Evero is finally getting the defense he wants.
He got his field captain back in Jewell, 2 dudes from his SB winning Rams defense in Robinson & Fuller, then brought in Hill who was there with him as well.
Horn is really nice for the Ramsay/Surtain role and they still need that extra DB for nickle and dime. Jackson seems aight but an upgrade could really help. Caelen Carson would be nice.

I'm excited for our LB room after checking more of his stuff. Also spent a minute looking back at Evero's work in 2022 in DEN with Jewell.
Jewell was the lone ILB in his penny fronts and played fantastic that year (unreal game against KC), and when they had Singleton in with him for their base cover 6/2-HS, they played so fast together with some real fun disguises and blitzes. Seems like Trevin will be a great fit for Evero.
I don't know if Shaq's going to have the speed post-injury (especially at his age) so this is a really smart move and he could be our LB of the future (or sooner). See no reason why this kid can't succeed in this environment and have an earlier impact than anticipated.
Still need another DB to help with our 5 and 6 DB packages, but this is a very strong move and I love the fit.

Pretty wild for 6 QBs to go in the top 12 then zero from picks 13 though 100.
Definitely reinforces the notion that there was a huge drop off after the first six. I just thought we'd see a decent drop off after the first four. I figured Nix and Penix would go somewhere between the late first and the end of the second. Definitely didn't see either in the top half of the first.
Pratt at 4.1. Let's go!

He just turned 21. He needs coaching, but he's also very coachable. And I think we've got some good ones to help him with that.
He's a bit undisciplined, but he's got the speed, power, and natural instincts you want.
The sideline-to-sideline quickness/ability to cover so much of the field is big in the 2-high shell. Can ease in for now, but he fits the scheme nicely.

2024 Draft: Day 3 (Rounds 4-7)

Think that's very good value.
