And he is a decent QB. He may not be the best ever but the guy is a decent QB.

Yes he is. No question. No one could take a player that has no talent and do what he has done. But...there's no doubt having Shanahan has moved Purdy to another level. Had the Panthers' drafted him, he would have likely been cut.

    Lukewarm...

I'm not so much against the candidate as I am worried about the process that led to his hiring.

Considering who the owner is, the Panthers are fortunate they could find anyone in the NFL who would  take the job.

The team needs talent across the board. That said, until a new coach is hired, it's hard to say what is needed most since we don't know what scheme the new HC will want to run. Take Oline for example. If the new guy wants to run a zone scheme, new Oline will be a priority. If he wants to stay withe the power running scheme, then that pick can be used on something else.

It won't take a new coach to figure out: What is needed most is GOOD players at just about every position.

I don't feel sorry for the guy at all. His goal was to get paid. He did it.

I agree. He chose not to throw at the combine. That's 100% on him. He made a business decision. He got what he was shooting for -- being drafted Number One.

Financially, he'll be fine. He apparently is a good person so he should have a nice life ahead of him.

That said, I didn't see an elite arm at Alabama. And I still haven't seen one. Good luck to him.

I wouldn’t. Fields isn’t their problem. He could be as good or better than Hurts. Keep building around him. I’m not sure Caleb Williams or Drake Maye are upgrades.

Yes, Maye and Williams are upgrades. Why? Because Fields' body won't hold up. I said that before he was drafted. As big a person as Cam was, he also had a short career.

  6. At this point, you take a deep breath. Find a competent person to run the franchise -- Belichick, Harbaugh (WHOEVER, I don't know who that magic person is. It's not Fitterer). Then, hire a coach. Again, Belichick, Harbaugh, WHOEVER.

Then, draft the best player available in the second.

Point: Don't panic and draft at QB in the second round. There won't be one.

People texting Johnson to take the job is the worst part of this. Everyone working under tepper hates life. No way he comes here to coach

As someone on here posted a two months ago: "Everyone wants to be a head coach. Working for Tepper won't be a deal breaker."

I thought the guy who posted this was an idiot then and I still think he's a idiot.

    Drake Maye

As far as hope, at the point, the Panthers prayer should be that Drake remains in school and waits for rhe 2025 draft.

This will never happen because the owner is a lost cause but...if it were me, I would attempt to bring Brandon Beane back home from Buffalo. The guy is from Norwood and went to UNC Wilmington. I would make him President and General Manager and buy him a mansion on Lake Norman. Does he really want to spend his career in that cold weather? (My understanding is you CAN hire from another organization if it's a promotion/hirer position. Since I don't know all the intricate hiring rules in the NFL, I could be wrong on this.)

So, bring Beane in and Beane starts "talking to" Mark Maye behind the scenes about how he (Beane) is going to straighten this mess out.

Who knows. Ya gotta try something. A pipe dream I know.

Does nobody on this forum realize how freaking terrible this entire team is? I keep hearing about Stroud( I’m a Buckeye fan) but put him ON THIS TEAM with THESE RECEIVERS and with THIS O-LINE and tell me he would be putting up the same numbers…

I do. I posted during the Atlanta game , Week One: "This team is staring down the barrel at 0-17." Well, I was wrong about that.

This is what you get when the owner and his VP wife make football decisions.

Obviously they wanted Young regardless of other opinions from coaches etc.

Tepper picked the HC and GM. The rest of the peons fall in line behind.

His wife went to "classes" about managing a NFL franchise (or some bullshat like that). She is now 2nd in command of a billion dollar plus franchise....with zero actual football experience.

They made the play for Young, and this I am convinced of. The Hedge fund God screwed the pooch and we all are along for the ride.

Her first question when she settled into to her new office was, "where do ya'll keep the football bats."

True but we could have had another 1st round pick this previous draft (the one we spent on Young) we could have selected a rookie QB to sit this year like Levis, another stud WR, or any other talent, and still have a 1st coming up in the next draft. That’s a team with pieces in place to compete compared to what we have now.

No one really knows. But...had the Panthers done the above -- kept Wilks and not made the trade -- it would have been a nice gamble to draft Hendon Hooker in the 3rd round as your potential future QB. It won't surprise me at all to see him be very good in 2-3 years.

  12. And be stuck in the Twilight Zone with no hope/promise for the future. I for one am not even close to ready to say Young will not be a good NFL QB. Darnold? I'm sure he won't be.

I'm also sure that with Wilks, Darnold and Co. fighting for a division title, we would have no hope of landing Maye or Williams in the 2024 draft.

Honestly, it could just be one of those transitional things.

Going from a college player that's used to having summers off to a professional who's basically working year round isn't an easy thing for some people. Failure to do so is a big reason why some guys bust out of the NFL.

Perhaps in the second pro offseason, he'll take a better approach.

Some have a fire in their belly to be the best. Others don't. Where does the fire come from? No one knows.
