I'd do the Boston deal in a second - Ulmark is ok with 50/50 work and if the Canes could unload Freddie to another team - does he have a no trade, or can he be moved?

All the more reason he should have been fresh for the playoffs - don't get me wrong, Freddie is an adequate goalie but his track record in the playoffs sucks, it has to be Koochie or pick up a stud at the trade deadline. Can't win a cup with an average goalie unless he goes God mode for the run, we've squandered the last few years with just average goalies.

We did the 50/50 thing this year and we thought Freddie was the stud, can't do that again as he wilts in the playoff pressure, ok do 50/50 but give Koochie the playoffs, time to see what he's made of

Skinner is far from an elite goalie but he went God mode last game, will he keep that up? If he doesn't I see Panthers taking the cup easily.

The only potential elite goalie available this offseason will be Saros (and he's smaller and had a crappy year this last season) 

 

Soros is definitely an upgrade but like Fredy he struggles in the playoffs - maybe wait till trade deadline and get a stud for the run if Kooch is struggling

Strange timing after he locks up Rod and staff - anything going on between him and the owner?

It's crystal clear that goalie play is THE most important aspect of playoff hockey, Donnie Wads has been trying to put together a cup winner with retread goalies, lets hope Rod gives Kooch the majority of starts next year and if he struggles then Donnie better finally get a proven goalie at the deadline or it will be rinse and repeat again.

Now that Rod is locked up what the Canes need to do is get an elite goalie - the man defense he plays will always have breakdowns in the playoffs and we need a goalie that can consistently stop the resulting breakaways. Maybe Kooch but I would feel better to get a proven performer. 

I'm ok with the signings - I'll be really ok if they go out and get a stud goalie or at least give Koochie a true shot, Freddy is not the answer even in a rotation.

my prediction - if Rod comes back they will not sign Guentzel, he will go to a system where he can flourish

this is just as much on management, keep getting us average at best goalies instead of spending on a stud

Freddy is not a playoff goalie, never was - and what the heck happened to Orlov, he should have got the assist on Trocheck's goal, a perfect pass, and the unnecessary icing that led to the winning goal
