8 years- 63.2m. 7.5mAAV
deferred payment due after the contract is over… no idea on how much the deferred payment is but I’d be willing to bet it’s a lot more than the missing 400k Aav from each season.
Tulsky getting creative - creating a little more cap space, seeing what the Canes lost I think he has done a bang-up job filling holes and prioritizing players.

Ok I understand the logic there. As I said I’m on the side of hoping he performs well and the team is still a contender.
I think they are still on board with keeping Necas, this contract is show me what you got and then we will sign you long term, fences will be mended if he performs well.

Anyone know if there is any type of NTC on Necas’ contract? Five team, ten team, etc…
Don't know how accurate this was but I did read one column that said no NTC was included in.

How about this????
Ehlers and McGroaty to the Canes for Neccas, 2024 2nd rounder and a prospect.
Necas already nixed a trade to Jets, when does arbitration get done? It seems we are hamstringed until we get the figures for Necas and Drury

We pretty much know for sure that he killed a deal with Nashville. So that now makes four teams that he turned down being traded too so far.
Winnepeg and Nashville will most likely be playoff teams - don't know what he is thinking, has he ever stated where he would like to go?

Yeah, I am not sure I buy into the idea he was at all committed to staying here in Carolina.
Based on what? The cup of coffee he had with the team?
he blew smoke that he wanted to stay to drive up his price

seems like Necas is acting like a pestilent spoiled brat, we have to sign Drury and this is gumming up the works - also looks like we now have to trade Necas for draft picks or fingers crossed get out of KK's salary

Seth Jarvis isnt even eligible for arbitration yet
we were talking about Necas going to arbitration and how it would impact the cap

I just want Necas gone, he already has killed at least two trades by not wanting to sign extensions with the team he was being traded to. One with Nashville for the fourth pick.
he obviously doesn’t want to be here and only wants to go somewhere where he’s going to be the top line center.
looks like arbitration and we keep him - I'm ok with that, let him prove himself if he wants to be considered elite. what does this do to the cap space?

Unless Jarvis Aho and Svech go god mode and koochie takes the next step, who knows?!
All the above players will continue to improve and I think a few of the new additions will surprise us, I'm not really down on this current group and Rod is a good coach [yes I said it]. We WILL make the playoffs and once in anything can happen. I'm ready to sit back and watch what will be an entertaining season. We had to retool and this should give us something to build on.

I think it will be a transition year will be a playoff team (more grindy and young blood) but not a top contender... but in 25-26 back to being a contender IMO Nickishin will be ready to do day 1 IMO.... and if we can get some of these young guys the experience/development FUS/Blake/Nadeu/Morrow
we can look at it this way - we have been a playoff team for 6 years and always came up short so we can do it next year with different guys and maybe Kooch can go God mode and we can make a serious run - [see Vancouver this year]

Saros just doesn’t move the needle for me in a Necas trade. I would love to have him but would rather trade a draft pick for him than water down the return on Necas.
Also hope they can find a way to keep Guentzel.to me Saros is similar to Freddie, good in reg season and bad in playoffs, plus what do the Canes do with Freddie unless we ship him off with Necas. Only plus is see is Saros isn't injury prone and is younger.
PantherChris, good points on Jake - seems like we are at least trying to retain him

Paying a backup or a 50/50 goalie $4.5M a year is ridiculous. Knowing he'll be injured at some point and likely miss 20 games, play in maybe 25 or 30 behind Kochetkov, $4.5M is also irresponsible and not smart.
You are right, but I think we are stuck with him for next year - who is going to trade for an oft injured goalie that makes 4.5

Koochie Mane is the way.
Totally agree - give Kooch 2/3 of the starts and a rested Freddie will be fine as a back-up, just keep him away from the playoffs. Freddie has proven to be a fine regular season goalie.

TBH, there have been quite a few non-elite goalies winning recently.
If Edmonton wins, Skinner is far from an elite goalie. Bobrovsky CAN be an elite goalie. He has been both a dumpster fire and elite in the past. Each season is a box of chocolates with him in net.
True enough, you just need an average goalie to get hot at the right time - unfortunately that never happened with us the last 5 years

They looking for high level star power providing prospects for Necas. There’s 6 teams in the mix for him but no ones is meeting the asking price. Pesce has been gone, they tried to extend him last offseason and he declined because he wants more than 5x5AAV.
turbo is 6m aav for 2-3 years. Jarvis is 7.75 aav and then chatfield at 3AAV. That leaves 10m in space and 6-7 roster spots.
keep expectations down unless they hit on the Necas deal and can move KK with him.In this scenario they better hit on Necas - KK is probably unmovable with that ridiculous contract, and it looks like they need the prospects in the pipe line to fill the roster. I'd like to keep Skjei if at all possible

Who is going to pay Guentzel 10.5 million dollars for 7 years? Looks like he's going after money instead of another cup, his choice and I don't blame management for not doing the deal. I just hope they have a decent plan in place to keep us as contenders.
-
I'd do the Boston deal in a second - Ulmark is ok with 50/50 work and if the Canes could unload Freddie to another team - does he have a no trade, or can he be moved?

Remember Freddie played barely any of the season. Less than 20% of the overall goalie starts.
All the more reason he should have been fresh for the playoffs - don't get me wrong, Freddie is an adequate goalie but his track record in the playoffs sucks, it has to be Koochie or pick up a stud at the trade deadline. Can't win a cup with an average goalie unless he goes God mode for the run, we've squandered the last few years with just average goalies.

Sticking with Freddie was a mistake but Kochetkov didn't exactly light it up either.
Next year it needs to be a 50/50 split, that includes the playoffs if it isn't clear who the stud is.
We did the 50/50 thing this year and we thought Freddie was the stud, can't do that again as he wilts in the playoff pressure, ok do 50/50 but give Koochie the playoffs, time to see what he's made of
-
Skinner is far from an elite goalie but he went God mode last game, will he keep that up? If he doesn't I see Panthers taking the cup easily.

Anyone hear rumors about an offer sheet to Toronto for young Robertson? He wants out and Leafs only have a little over a million in cap space so they would have a hard time matching the offer sheet.
