A look at the Offensive Upgrades: Wide Receiver
strato replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’m looking forward to seeing the offensive plan more than any other thing. Otherwise I don’t have much if anything to add about those players excpt maybe, camp is gonna be big for the young WRs. For as far back as I remember, the WR position was considered to be one where patience was needed. The wait until year 3 is something I heard a lot. I don’t know where that went but I bet some guys still do need time. The coaching chaos probably cost Mingo and TMJr developmental time, as well. Wait for the hitting and let’s see. -
Yeah that is something too. Be not funny if they spent draft plus gave a top contract to Aiyuk and little old Johnson goes off and there is no money for him. And you can’t trade him can you? UFA after the season. I think we have placed our big bets already let the wheel spin.

He was a late 1st. I haven’t really kept up but it looks to me like he can’t get his money from SF for whatever reason. And wants top dollar. We just spent a late 1st and don’t know what he is, but that is the way to get these guys. Or in the 2nd. Or 3rd. Look at the guys people have found even last year. Again, we just are getting started, like step 1, with a HC that was hired in large part because of his work with QBs and he came up doing WRs. His OC is a WR guy. I am just thinking we need to let them work and evaluate.

He was a late 1st. We just spent a late first on a guy. That is the way to get those players. You can say Legette was a bad pick, I guess but it’s a little early to say anything definite. -

yeah. It seems like a waste I don’t know how he will do this year but I know he can play so maybe it really will be the old ‘change of scenery’. -
I see what y’all are saying but new staff and they haven’t even had a good look at these guys . Mingo last year. Legette this year. Plus how many OCs QBs and HCs has Marshall had now? I’m not saying they are anything certain but they are so young and the coaching has been inconsistent, lots of change and it hurts young players. We have a WR/QB specialist OC and HC, I am looking forward to them getting to work on them and see what they can make of it. I wouldn’t mind having a stacked bunch of quality WRs, naturally. But I don’t think the timing is right for sending picks and spending a huge contract. We might even need to sign a QB next year. I’d personally make small adjustments and go with who we keep.
-
Yeah no kidding he is gonna want to know and sign off. And as an aside, you could be in agreement with something but still want to be sold. If for nothing else than to get your money’s worth and keep people sharp. See what they are thinking, make sure you know what you should know. Of course I don’t know about that Burns stuff but my feeling about rejecting the haul - it came from the top. And I would think Fitterer knew or had a good guess which way Tepper would lean before he went to him with it. Just because, day to day stuff you see and hear. Meaning yeah he doesn’t always have to say the words because they know what he wants.

Shaq Thompson has learned to adapt to change, and to lead

I feel okay about him this year. As long as he can still run. -
Yeah. I mean, if I owned a team that would be some of the best part of it, being in the loop on that stuff and the whole draft thing.
-
I am a big whatever on your criticism. Keep chirping I don’t care. We have how many draft rounds invested there right now? 3 years in a row one per year. 2nd, 2nd, 1st all vying for number 3 WR It ain’t guitar collecting, WRs do not get more valuable hanging on the wall not being used. Maybe we develop the overflowing WR room and maybe then WE can get some picks coming our way for once.
-
Nah, sometimes the best deals are the ones you don't make I ain’t bitin’. Wouldn’t change anything.
-
No. We need to make something out of the substantial investments we’ve already made there.
-
You make a good point there, like who does know? There are more than athletic reasons guys fail, something outside of football... attitude, family issues, maybe too much pressure too soon, and none of that may apply here but do we know? See what happens.
-
Yeah this isn’t a draft pick any more. He is basically like any UDFA status wise now, with a better bank account. This is like that stuff where say ‘if it saves even one life...” sub in “If we find even one player..."
-
We don’t need to be too picky. Buy low try and find some value, if he is a net positive be grateful.
-
Thank you ForJimmy, yeah. If people re read what I am saying doesn’t need repeating just read it right it’s all there. Never said anything other than the perspective can MINIMIZE the contrast. I think I said. There is for sure a contrast in the size of those two people.

For us, I mean, are they going to bring in Gettleman too? Is he still alive, the fat fug? But yeah, no doubt that is noteworthy. -
I am not an NBA fan any longer since probably the ‘90s can’t have but so many hobbies but all people say is nepotism type of stuff. I so agree about the merit. He just didn’t measure up. Sorry but you can’t avoid puns with this, that was actually what I would say about any prospect I find lacking. I only recognized the inference after typing it. poo writes itself. I have a theory but people aren’t open minded enough for it to go public so why they did it is officially a mystery to me. Which doesn’t make me different than a lot of other people who don’t get it either. It is a pretty out there theory but show me one that makes sense.
-
Maybe he will shock everyone. I probably will still at least give half credit to coaching and more investment in helping him than most of the defensive side of the ball is happy with. Because of the imbalance of talent necessary to prop a weak player up. You have to do what is best for your overall team. With Young on it, he is going to need the attention. Damn. He better be a whole lot better.

And I think we have seen how foolish signing Watson would have been. Chasing him, even. To what end? And I also, obviously, think that the trade up was totally in character. Bad character. -
We got the scrappy 3rd rounder.

I was a Johnny U fan big time that year (and all other years). fuging abomination.
