Rozeboom pretty much lost us this game with his horrible play, so it has to be someone who can quarterback a defense. Or just take the best defensive player since we need help everywhere and try to find that player in FA

4th and 1, rams were biting the run, Bryce is pretty good on the play action, and… you call that. Thats Canales for you.
Also thanks Evero for not covering the best WR in football on that TD. Like seriously these coaches are awful

If we do manage to eek out a win I have to imagine it would be in large part due to the moving parts around him and the Rams making multiple critical mistakes.
And saddling ourselves to a $100+ million contract extension for a QB who has started all three of his seasons so far playing poorly at best is an enormous risk that could put us squarely in purgatory. And just for a point of reference. Rival fans who have also watched Bryce Young play quarterback would be thrilled for us to be locked into a long term extension. That is not a glowing endorsement.
I didn't say it was, but if he balls out and wins, he's probably getting it.

On the Bill Simmons pod, the 5 worst teams to make the playoffs by EPA in the last 30 years all won their first playoff game. 7-9 Seahawks, 8-8 St. Louis Rams, The Golden Calf of Bristol Broncos are all examples.
2025-26 Panthers would be in this group.
Also, "Beware the dome QB on the road in bad conditions" is in play here, also "Beware the team that nobody believes in". dome QB on the road in bad conditions lose more than win, and team that nobody believes in wins more than loses.
However at the end of the day its MVP Matt Stafford vs. Bryce Young, and history doesn't bode well for this type of matchup. Bryce is REALLY going to have to prove himself today. His career is on the line. Like - if he balls out and wins, he'll probably get that 100M+ extension. If he flounders, that money is gone. So it's up to him

Mike McDaniel is a great coach, hampered by terrible GM'ing and QB play. He's shown way more than Canales. Had they taken Herbert, he'd still be there.
However, there is no way this team makes a change at HC
-
Which is why getting a QB in here who can actually read the field and throw would be killer for this franchise, TMac/Coker is a very very good young WR duo, they were just hampered by bad throws all year

He's not good. Made some horrible throws down the stretch, the Falcons were carried by Bijan, key defensive plays and Pitts being wide open

A good QB would eat with TMac, Coker and the weapons we have. We need a QB, we need offensive line depth, and desperately, desperately need front 7 help. It's basically Derrick Brown and a bunch of JAGs. I suspect they'll go LB in the first, unless a QB unexpectedly drops.

There's a lot of talk that the Giants are going to draft a QB even though they just took Dart in the first round (didn't they trade up for him too?)

Yeah Cousins is trash. ATL is not a problem next year if they don't fix QB
-
I don't buy that ATL would have been in the playoffs with Cousins all year. Cousins is the perfect "I'm good when I have nothing to play for" QB, he would have made many dumb game ending mistakes like he did the previous year
-
I want the Rams in the playoffs round 1, but that will be impossible if they lose tonight
-
Watching other teams QB's, even old ass Cousins, he looks smooth throwing the ball.... Watching Bryce its like he plays really hard just to make the simple passes. We really have to get a new QB in here. As much as Bryce can be clutch sometimes, it just isn't worth the up and down

fug your lazy ass perspective. It's beyond old. We lost to the saints because our online played like poo. Give credit to the saints defense. Oh, and the refs suck ass, although inrefuse to blame the refs for any loss.
I've said my peace Chrissy. Bryce played like garbage at home against the Saints, could get to 10 points.
I badly want Bryce to succeed so we don't waste another high pick on a QB, but he hasn't been good enough, plain and simple.-

He's not elite because he barely attempts them. Its why we lost to the Saints twice. They were daring us to throw and he didn't want to. Wake me up when he actually beats defenses daring him to throw

All of this noise is just setting us up to lose Week 18 and proclaim life's not fair. If there's one thing I know in my 30+ years of watching the Hornets and Panthers, is that the bad guy always wins in the end. A team can be falling apart internally but we will still lose to them. A team's fanbase can be extra shitty and cocky and they will just win anyway. It always happens

Nah, if we lose then the season was a failure because all it took to win the division was beating the Saints once and we couldn't do it. That's a pretty big failure.
Teams go from bad to good all the time... going from bad to mediocre isn't a successful season in my books

I think Bryce is risk adverse based on early season trauma the last two years, because he clearly can throw deep, but doesn't want to. But has started to do so months later.
-
Really sucks we couldn’t beat the saints once, we still are underdogs to win the division even after this

Wins are wins, Packers and Rams are quality wins against really tough teams to play. Any road game win is also a decent win, as games are just harder to control and predict on the road.
If the Panthers lose tomorrow they are 98% eliminated. I'd say even if we finish 8-9 it was a disappointing season given how close we were to a playoff berth but just fumbled it with unprepared, bad play...despite how flawed the roster is.
I wouldn't extend Bryce if we miss the playoffs and make him prove it in a contract year, while also finding a decent backup next offseason. Probably not going to be in a position to reach for a QB in the first round, and we sorely need defensive help in a loaded defensive draft
-
We went from being able to rest the starters the last two weeks for a home playoff game to likely eliminated. That is how catastrophic getting swept by the Saints was. All you needed to do was win one against the Saints. And if we won both we'd clinch with any win over the final 3 weeks. But this is the Panthers, and we can't have nice things.
Absolutely can't extend Bryce if we don't make the playoffs. You just can't as a franchise. If Bryce was worth his salt he would have beaten one of the worst teams in the league once to make the playoffs. He had two chances and fumbled both

Bryce may suck but Kellen Moore thoroughly pants'd Canales in both meetings. And Moore was someone we brought in and said "no thanks", just like Steichen and Harbaugh. Tepper has zero eye for identifying football talent.
That said, Canales deserves another year, but he has to show improvement next year

4 minutes ago, Camp Fodder said:
So if we split with the bucs I assume we would have the best the Seahawks right?
Nope, we now have to sweep them. Seahawks game doesn’t matter unless they lose to the dolphins and we beat the Seahawks, and then we can split. But that’s unlikely. This game killed our chances. Pathetic performance coming off a bye. We deserve to miss the playoffs now
-
Not only do we win the division if we win our next two games, we eliminate the Bucs and send them home if we win our next two. It's always nice sending a division rival packing. We have to do this.

Dan's first draft
in Carolina Panthers

XL doesn’t have it. Best to cut ties and try to get a 4th or something (likely only a late round pick). Just get his money off the payroll
