We went from being able to rest the starters the last two weeks for a home playoff game to likely eliminated. That is how catastrophic getting swept by the Saints was. All you needed to do was win one against the Saints. And if we won both we'd clinch with any win over the final 3 weeks. But this is the Panthers, and we can't have nice things.
Absolutely can't extend Bryce if we don't make the playoffs. You just can't as a franchise. If Bryce was worth his salt he would have beaten one of the worst teams in the league once to make the playoffs. He had two chances and fumbled both

Bryce may suck but Kellen Moore thoroughly pants'd Canales in both meetings. And Moore was someone we brought in and said "no thanks", just like Steichen and Harbaugh. Tepper has zero eye for identifying football talent.
That said, Canales deserves another year, but he has to show improvement next year

So if we split with the bucs I assume we would have the best the Seahawks right?
Nope, we now have to sweep them. Seahawks game doesn’t matter unless they lose to the dolphins and we beat the Seahawks, and then we can split. But that’s unlikely. This game killed our chances. Pathetic performance coming off a bye. We deserve to miss the playoffs now
-
Not only do we win the division if we win our next two games, we eliminate the Bucs and send them home if we win our next two. It's always nice sending a division rival packing. We have to do this.

Both of these coaches have dumb face
They cut to a shot of either coach, they look clueless
Bijan also has crying face, like almost every closeup -
Tampa sucks. We should beat them
-
Its not happening, the Saints loss really killed their chances. We have to sweep TB and beat either the Saints or Seahawks to get it in, and I just don't see this team doing that

Both Coker and Tet TDs weren't sideline throws. Same with the Tet TD last week. BY is horrible at sidelines throws, but not bad in the middle of the field deep. I wonder if Canales finally realizes this and gets BY to throw aggressively in the middle of the field.
-
I'm convinced CRA has chronic nightmares about BY and comes on here to try to ease his stress
XL blocked very well yesterday, and has been blocking well lately. He's got a very, very long way to go as a receiver. The "It's Bryce Young" argument doesn't really make sense if Tet and Coker and showing out and making plays. XL can't seem to do anything in open space, which is what he was drafted for. He isn't even an option on end arounds, they'd rather give it to Horn.

Bryce just outplayed MVP Matt Stafford .
Didn't outplay but he outclutched both Stafford and Dak in the 4th quarter. Insane.
Bryce has a ways to go, but he is undeniably clutch
-
I don't understand why we have so many plays for the receivers on the sideline. Bryce clearly struggles on those. On that last broken play, Coker had a TD had Bryce just thrown it there instead of out of bounds. Better yet, why doesn't Coker run towards the middle of the field, he would have been open.

Late season, meaningful, crowd into it and chanting, bad weather, great football. I've missed this so much

I mean it was a stupid trade to make during the draft. Trading back into the first with next year's first is always an awful idea.
-
Bryce has to play like this the rest of the year to warrant the 5th year. No going back to whatever the hell that was last week vs. the Saints. Either Canales or Bryce said "fug it" for this week and let it fly, and it worked out. Prove it again next week. Doesn't have to be 448 yards, but the offense has to be efficient in both phases

We aren't winning because of DC... We are winning because teams either shoot themselves in the foot Non-Stop or Evero and the defense stand on their head and hold a team below 14...
"None of the wins are legitimate, its just the other team shooting themselves in the foot" is such a dumb and tired argument. You can say this about any team and any win. I mean was there any legitimate win this week or did every losing team shoot themselves in the foot?

The excuses, keep on coming.
None of it is related to his diminutive size and the suspect arm that requires attention to the mechanics and footwork to operate at a competitive level.I hope one day he proves all of us wrong so you can look better but right now you just look like a guy in denial.
You twist my words to try to gain brownie points or something, not sure why you do that. Talking in absolutes will always come back to bite you in the butt. The facts are: QB's have been miserable here and improved somewhere else and cited a miserable environment in Carolina. That's just the facts. Bryce could be done in the NFL after this season, sure. He also could "rediscover his love of football" and look great somewhere else. It just is what it is with this crappy franchise.

Mayfield and Darnold should be exempt from Bryce comparisons. They have the tools and physical measurables that he lacks.
It is apples to oranges.
Bryce has no comps really, if he is to succeed he will be the first of his line to do it.
The closest comp I have been able to find is Flutie who was practically identical in height and weight, but with a much stronger arm and I am pretty sure more mobility also, but different era. The arm advantage can’t really be argued, so the comp breaks down.I don’t know how saying that is hate. It is just reality. Not that you specifically said it was hate but the general theme is if you don’t believe in his abilities and say so, it is hate.
I will tell you, I have hated 90% of the last three seasons with him at QB but if he did well, and could sustain that, I don’t think I would snipe at him. There has been plenty of QB's with "physical measurables" that have failed. Again, it is entirely possible Bryce is completely defeated mentally and that is causing his perceived lack of accuracy and arm strength. And that a reset somewhere else, on the bench, without pressure, fixes that. And again, the same poo was said about Darnold and Mayfield here. Its not a coincidence that both of them "rediscovered their love for football" somewhere else and are now thriving. Taking this stance that "oh but Bryce will NEVER be able to do the same" is weird because....what if he does? More backtracking by the same posters?
-
Bryce sucks for sure. But there is a clear disconnect between the coach and the QB. One of them is refusing to throw it deep. I refuse to believe Bryce can't throw it deep, when he has before, both in college and the NFL. Either Canales is telling him you can't, or Bryce has zero confidence and doesn't want to take the risk so he just doesn't... either way it doesn't matter because the disconnect is so noticeable there's no way Canales goes into next season with Bryce as the starter, he'd rather resign. You can just tell by his interviews and coach speak

No one is going to take Bryce as a backup.
you need your backup to be able to come in and run the same offense.
The panthers have spent multiple years crafting an entire personnel group and offense around his limitations.
San Fran or La or whomever aren’t going to bring in a backup qb with no upside they can’t even complete the route tree.
dudes done after Carolina
You're letting your hatred for him cloud your judgement, you can't say with 100% certainty that Bryce can't play anywhere else, especially since everyone here said the same about Darnold and Mayfield and are now backtracking to say "well they had the skills all along"... absolutely nobody was saying that at the time. You are forgetting that the Panthers are currently a poverty franchise that taints everything they touch, it is absolutely in the realm of possibility that Bryce sits for a few years and then looks like Mac Jones does right now. But I agree that it won't happen here, and the Panthers have to move on.
-
He's completely lost his confidence, its over for him here. Needs to go somewhere like the Rams and backup for a few seasons, then he'll magically be better and we'll get clowned on

I get the sense most folks on this forum skew a little older. We’ve all watched enough football to know the difference between a Hall of Famer and a guy who just isn’t it.
If you’re still looking at what Bryce brings and convincing yourself he’s something he’s not, you’re just holding on to the wish that we didn’t screw up the #1 pick.
I'm not, he doesn't have it... I just think bringing up his overall record is is irrelevant, especially since we've seen QB's in bad situations with bad teams go somewhere else and start winning, its just short sighted thinking

Bryce is a good kid. Everything I see about him makes me like him. OFF THE FIELD
But he is not going to take us to the promised land. Dude has an 11 and 25 record.
For every game he wins he loses 2
He's 5-3 this year. NFL is the epitome of "what have you done for me lately" business. Bryce isn't good but nobody should care about his rookie season record, just like they don't about Darnold's
-
The only way Bryce should get an extension is if they make the playoffs and play decent in the playoff game, which means he needs to go 5-3 the rest of the way to win the division, or 6-2 to get a wild card. There is no reason whatsoever to give him an extension otherwise, its not like he is going to hold out if he doesn't get one

If they lose the last three......
in Carolina Panthers
Posted
Wins are wins, Packers and Rams are quality wins against really tough teams to play. Any road game win is also a decent win, as games are just harder to control and predict on the road.
If the Panthers lose tomorrow they are 98% eliminated. I'd say even if we finish 8-9 it was a disappointing season given how close we were to a playoff berth but just fumbled it with unprepared, bad play...despite how flawed the roster is.
I wouldn't extend Bryce if we miss the playoffs and make him prove it in a contract year, while also finding a decent backup next offseason. Probably not going to be in a position to reach for a QB in the first round, and we sorely need defensive help in a loaded defensive draft
