It's just floundering around to try and keep a crumbling infrastructure in place.
The truth is that their business model is broken and they just haven't accepted it yet.

As a UNCC alum, I see parallels between the Hornets and 49ers. In the 90's, both were good (not great) teams. They weren't title contenders, but you expected them to be in the playoffs/tournament. And they've both been sh#t shows for the last 20 years.
It's been fun watching 49ers hoops come back to life. Maybe someday that will happen with the Hornets.

I work with a bunch of people from Michigan. This sucks for them but Michigan football won the national championship. They will be fine
Michigan State fans pull for the Lions, too.

where a kid is drafted is immediately meaningless the second he steps on the field
The most obvious comparison for Bryce is Trey Lance, based on where he was drafted, and what SF paid to get him. He got 2 seasons (8 games).
Of course, they had a loaded team and no time to wait. And a good front office. What are the odds we find a Brock Purdy?
But if we've learned anything about Tepper, it's that he's not a "sunk costs" guy.

I was good with the Frank Reich hire, so what do I know?
We'll see.

How are you going to trade one of your best players to a division rival?
The Hornets/Heat rivalry is similar to the way a nail has a rivalry with a hammer.

So it looks like Amazon stepped in at the last minute to prop up the Bally RSN's.
So if you didn't have access to the Hornets/Canes, you can just do a $20/month add on at Amazon Prime.
If I followed the Canes, maybe. But nah.

Maybe, maybe not. I mean, I see your point but there’s this twist:
look at the negotiation Spectrum/Charter did with Disney last year. They negotiated the inclusion of the Disney streaming apps for their customers into the cable bundle. Disney gave in because (in part) they know they’ll have a bigger battle selling ESPN direct to consumer for the predicted $30/month price point vs what the $12/mo they’re getting from cable now. And because of how carriage contracts are written, you should expect to see the same happening with Comcast, Verizon, and others down the line.
yes, some cable providers are shutting down the TV service in lieu of providing only broadband access…and while its shrinking, there is still an audience who appreciates the convenience and AYCE approach cable provides vs managing multiple services.
True, but the people still interested in cable skew much older.
I watch tv on my flatscreen, and play games on my phone. My adult kids play games on their flatscreen, and watch tv on their phone.
And if you're not into sports, there's really no reason to have live tv.
So yes, cable is a viable option for now. But it's going the way of the dodo, eventually.

It's circling back to a cable bundle model, as streamers (other than netflix) are all losing money and figure merging services is the solution
It won't be a cable bundle, though. Cable companies are getting out of the tv business, left and right. It's more profitable to just be ISP's.
There will be bundles, but they'll be streaming bundles.

Better get used to it. I already pay the $6/month for Premier League content, so no big deal for me. The writing was on the wall when they started airing games on Amazon Prime.

So .... George Seifert.

Recency bias will play a role in this response. Also some people aren’t even old enough to remember 2001.
Having watched all 3 teams I never went into a game in 2001 thinking we didn’t have a chance to win. That team lost a ton of close games and was better than this year’s team and 2010.
Yep.
2001 was a brutal season to watch, mostly because of all the close losses. Six losses by 3 points or less, and two more by 4-6 points.

Everyone should have this mindset. There isn't a damn thing any of us can do about any of this. Getting excited or upset is fruitless. It is what it is.
This also applies to the NFL Draft.

We've had terrible seasons before.
But we're the laughingstock of the league right now. Draft night 2024 will be our 28-3 moment.

Or.... Cobras. It was the other proposed name by the league... I kid you not.
Additionally, the NFL was pushing purple as the team colors. The Richardsons managed to resist, but apparently Art Modell (Ravens) could not.

Just when you thought it couldn't get worse, Fox, ESPN, and WB are launching a joint venture sports streaming service

I think YTTV is pretty well positioned right now. It's basically cable tv for people who don't want to pay cable tv prices. I'd guess that the "sports progamming only" market isn't huge. The problem for YTTV is if any of this stuff becomes exclusive, or if ESPN/Fox decide to jack up whatever carriage prices they're currently paying.
